Editor’s Note: The two main stories are penned by Kelly. These are the short tales to celebrate the milestone occasion.

“Rapid Return” by Ahmed, Pérez & Hollowell dives into a hero trying to fill Spidey’s void. The writing locks in on a reluctant soul trying to do good. Readers have some great panels of action. Seeing the face-off with Boomerang gives way to a heavy burden lifted. Readers see how the art walks them through Rapid’s thoughts. It’s a nice compliment to the Web-Head’s Legacy.

Gatlin steps in for “Spider Mayonnaise”. It’s a fun story about the struggles of the perfect sandwich. The tale plays into the quirkiness Spidey is known for. Short, sweet and to the point.

“In the City..” is a fun nod to Spider-Man and NYC. Loo brings to life a normal swing through the City. It is a solid piece to end events after 975 issues.

As for “Broken Mirror”, Kelly throws some wild curves into the puzzling case. The flashback moment with Pete as “Young Cap” is a heartwarming one. It is much different than the current state of affairs. “Peter” and “Spider-Man” continue their face-off from last issue. After some punches thrown, the ruse begins to fall apart.

Readers see the reveal slowly unveil itself. It is a surprise that makes ironic sense. This spills into the abrupt end of their fight. Kelly brings in Felicia Hardy as another voice in the matter provides some breaks in the drama. Their experience is one that leads into the other major reveal. The monologue flowing the pages belongs to an unlikely source. How this ultimately plays out is going to be a can’t miss moment.

Romita Jr. & company kick events off with a classic throwback. It’s a strong contrast from where the present events start. The art doesn’t wait long to throw hands with the parties involved. A two page split rings the bell for the combustible fight. Pacing picks up until its time for the first reveal.

Readers watch the subtle acts leading into this stage. The close-up on the changing face leads to a more clear resolution of the fight. Its’ complimented by the Tombstone cameo. The cold expressions never stray too far away. This is very unlikely the erratic “Peter.” The art spotlights the true intentions of this character. Twisted is an understatement. Readers get their other reveal in a more calm way. Panel structure eases into the twist flawlessly. This helps to transition where the book goes next.

Kelly does answer the question of “Who is Peter Parker” in the second story. Having him FAR away from NYC is an understatement. Space odysseys are tricky involving the Web Head. In this circumstance, the writing allows him to be rebuilt with mixed results.

Winding up on a spaceship is one thing. Working with Xanto proves to be more deceptive in nature. It gives a touch of Hollywood Horror movies. At any given moment, the shoe will drop. Kelly starts this off with a shocking moment. Xanto’s push for scientific growth turns in a dastardly manner. This leads into a predictable but still exciting fight. Once a winner is declared, the final panel leaves way more questions than answers. This gets a huge assist from the art.

“Broken Man” lets Larraz tear loose on the images. Seeing a broken Peter on a near full shot makes a big statement. The use of smaller panels illustrates how much time has wore Parker down. This changes after a space rescue. A near full shot displays Parker in much better shape. This moves into his new surroundings which are anything but normal.

Readers get a near full shot of Xanto’s secrets. The eventual turn pivots into an excellent fight. It leads to some excellent action shots. Larraz completely understands how to maximize every strike thrown. It doesn’t matter of panel size. There is no wasted motion. The real “return” of Spider-Man is given a full page panel. This results in more great action shots before the startling close. Readers see more than bargained for on the final panel. It sends the issue into its’ bonus tales with much intrigue. Can’t ask for much more than that.

OVERALL GRADE: 9

After 975 issues, the world of Spider-Man still remains Amazing in its’ adventures. Kelly shakes up the status quo with his stories. Romita Jr., Larraz and their teams take readers on quite the journey. Factor in the great side tales & you have the formula for a winning anniversary issue.

JSA #11 (DC COMICS)

The end is here! After an overwhelming attack, The Injustice Society has their prize. They have found the Spear of Destiny! With it comes power unlikely anything the world can handle. It’s up to the JSA to stop them but can they?

At each turn, they have been dealt crushing defeats. Wildcat killed. Hawkman in limbo. Dr. Fate’s helmet stolen. It’s all just the tip of an evil iceberg. It’s now or never for the Justice Society. One final round. Winner take all!

JSA #11 by Jeff Lemire, Diego Olortegui, Luis Guerrero and Steve Wands (DC Comics) begins “RAGNAROK”!

Let’s not wait another second & dive into the chapter!

With such a large cast, ensuring all roads lead in the same direction is tough. In this case, Lemire gives a healthy shove to position players for the final showdown. There is some resolutions for sub-plots looming. Hourman and Jessie Quick are prime examples.

Their story felt lost but at least is given a finish point for now. This is merged into Dr. Mid-Nite’s dilemma which ushers in the next phase for the JSA.

Readers watch as more returning heroes enter the fray. This appears on surface to give the JSA a fighting chance. Once the brief skirmish with the Injustice Society ends, the dialogue speeds towards a refocus. This is a recurring theme for the majority of the book.

There are some key spots that continue to help grow some hope. Obsidion’s reunion is a definite crowd pleaser. The writing conveys this sense of the tide turning to the close. In a few brief pages, that feeling disappears. It is replaced with an overwhelming doom. The final page drops an exclamation point on that statement before departing.

The chapter fills in many gaps before bringing the team all together. How long they survive will be the question on readers mind heading into the next chapter.

Olortegui and Guerrero bring the emotional side of the JSA out from the beginning. The Hourman/Jessie portion runs a gauntlet of phases. It’s met with the same varying sense as Dr. Mid-Nite is inserted into plans.

The art teases some action with a strong two page splash. With Kid Eternity leading Hawkman and Hawkgirl into battle, the moment delivers a small victory. Fleeting but effective in creating some possible light in their current woes.

From this point, the majority of action is on hold. The panels lock in on the many reactions to recent events. This works to build up the eventual final stand. Some may not like this staging but it works once the closing hits. The reunion image with Obsidian is gifted a near full shot. It provides his story payoff before the end pages begin.

Readers can only watch as Wotan’s plans are in full motion. The look of fear on the heroes faces screams out what is coming. There is no question of an over-reaction here. The final full page brings out a true terror. It is the perfect set-up for the end looming in the background.

OVERALL GRADE: 8

The final stand of the JSA is has arrived as Ragnarok takes hold! Lemire’s writing speeds everyone to the endgame. Olortegui & Guerrero lock in on the emotional tolls taken in the fight against insurmountable odds. The time for talking is now over. All that’s left is a fight for everything next chapter. Get ready.

A demon has captured Krypton’s last son. Ra’s Al Ghul’s Lazarus Corporation made a dangerous move. With BRAINIAC pulling the strings, Superman was lured into a trap. The goal is something very sinister. The Demon’s Head wants an heir. Who better than the Man Of Tomorrow?

Give credit where it’s due. Aaron isn’t afraid to take the Superman mythos into dark avenues. This is primarily shown with Brainaic. Turning him into a more unhinged monster proves for quite the entertaining read. His dialogue with the stoic Al Ghul clashes just enough to tease their plans. Knowing what they have with Superman, it leaves no question of Al Ghul’s interest in him as an heir.

This leads into some disturbing mental torturing. Readers watch as each attempt to corrupt Kal-El intensifies. It also brings into play his allies in the fight against Lazarus. Aaron gives just enough page time to the Lois/Talia face-off to impact events. In the end, one plot takes center stage. The writing taps into an inner strength to become the deciding factor. It mirrors much of what fans love of Superman. The result is an explosive series of events. One of which becomes a tragic causality of Al Ghul’s schemes. This builds towards a very fast-paced finish. It leaves readers with a sense of anxious doubt going forward& wanting more.

Di Giandomenico and Arreola know how to tap into the insanity of this Brainiac. Having Kal-El “relive” a last moment of Krypton delivers on a combustible scenario. Once the smoke clears, the tension never leaves. Readers watch as the face-off between Brainaic and Al Ghul is direct and unapologetic. It conveys how prized their prisoner is. Failure is clearly not an option. This is shown on Brainaic’s face from here until the end of chapter.

The art delivers on a few fantastic “nightmare” images. A full page of Superman flying is excellent (even with the damage around). This takes a side step to build up the Talia/Lois confrontation. Both wear their rage on their sleeves. The art locks in on the anger during these panels. Only Brainaic’s crazed looks provide a detour from the drama. All events move towards a superb turning point. Readers see Superman reach deep to find hope. It is a moment much needed at this stage of Kal’s story. The fallout becomes very chaotic. It concludes with a final page and many questions. Another fun visual ride to be had.

OVERALL GRADE: 9

Can Brainaic break a steel heart? That is the question posed in this chapter. Aaron’s writing never lets up on the pressure of events. Di Giandomenico and Arreola unlock the insanity of Brainiac into full view. The result is an issue you don’t want to miss at the shops.

BATMAN #1 (DC COMICS)

A new day has dawned on Gotham City. Commissioner Vandal Savage continues his dictatorial rule of the police. This has caused many strains. None may be greater than the relationship between the city & its’ Dark Knight.

When a rogue is on the loose, BATMAN looks to do what he does best. His mission vs. Savage’s orders. Something has to give.

BATMAN #1 by Matt Fraction, Jorge Jiménez, Tomeu Morey, and Clayton Cowles kicks off Fraction’s lead of the Caped Crusader’s adventures.

Let’s take a closer look at how events unfold now.

One element that is very clear from the start is Fraction’s tone with Batman. Coming off Zdarsky’s long run, the dialogue feels more disconnected. When conversing with Dr. Zeller, Bats comes across as cold and robotic. In some aspects, he’s talking down to her. This mood is picked up by his AI assistant. It’s a clever way to bring back a sorely missed member of the Bat-Family. Seeing this pairing on a case leads into a interesting perspective.

Readers watch as Batman investigates changes in his target. One notable change in this run is the reliance on new tech. “Where does he get those wonderful toys” indeed. Fraction leans into this area heavily while processing changes in the conflict. The dialogue shows how there’s more similarities between Batman and his rogue than thought. It leads into an unorthodox play from the Dark Knight. The move feels very outside the box. Readers see uncharacteristic moves.

It results in a more reflective closing. This peaceful tone is extinguished on the final page. Another familiar face is back and leaves the chapter with a great ending point. Suffice to say, this era of Batman is off to a fresh start at the very minimum.

Jiménez, Morey, and Cowles return for this new start. The opening sequence teases a monster is on the loose. It’s followed up by a full page image of Batman overlooking the city. His expressions look more grizzled and weathered than usual. This leads him into his chase. The two page splash gives a very modern look at Gotham City. It offsets Savage’s orders to the GCPD. Even for a brief page, the images change pace to elude to more danger en route.

Once back on the case, the art depicts the new technology being used. Readers watch as that dances between strong action scenes. This leads into the expected confrontation. A half panel shows Batman with his new electric gauntlets. It’s met with his target’s response via half panel. This leads into the very different method of subduing the situation.

The art shows Batman’s risky move. It leads into a gentler landing than expected. Events seem to calm to close with this aspect. Luckily, a full page image ties everything back to the true threat lurking in shadows. The art team picks up right where it left off with a bit more sleek look at Gotham through the Dark Knight’s eyes.

OVERALL GRADE: 8.8

A new era of the Caped Crusader leaps into action with a sleek new look. Fraction changes the standard stat quo with the writing. Jiménez, Morey, and Cowles present the bold takes with strong art. This chapter indicates to expect the unexpected with Gotham City’s protector. Judging by the last page, the fight on crime has been taken to a new place.

X-MEN #21 (MARVEL COMICS)

Scott Summers Arrested? The leader of the Alaska based X-Men is in jail. During a brawl with Agent Lundqvist, both were arrested. With Cyclops away, Magik takes the leadership reigns. Her first order of business? Take care of Trevor Fitzroy and The Upstarts once and for all!

X-MEN #21 by Jed MacKay, Netho Diaz, Sean Parsons, J. P. Mayer, John Livesay, Fernando Sifuentes and Clayton Cowles pits the young team against the social media psychos!

Let’s take a closer look at where events play out now!

This chapter seems centered around an unlikely lead. Jennifer Starkey is a new Mutant due to 3K’s actions. Having this transformation wears on her soul. The writing reflects that as her thoughts crash another mutant’s direction. Seeing Kid Omega provide his type of compassion eases readers into the upcoming conflict. It is a new look for the snarky telepath. The time is dashed quickly as Magik calls her shot.

MacKay ties back to a previous issue on her motivations. Magik’s dialogue provides a twisted way of justifying the offensive attack. In execution, her plans fall very short. Readers watch as the X-Men walk into a virtual trap. As the action commences, the story takes a few turns. Starkley and Juggernaut are put into uncomfortable spots. The writing fits their frustration inside the fast moving action. Once the conflict leads to its’ finish, a few drastic measures are taken. It leaves much to be resolved. With the upcoming “Revelation” event looming, its’ uncertain when this will have complete closure. Until then, the team has much to process from their rash decisions.

Diaz and the art team open with a near full page of Staley in the sunset. Her time with Kid Omega covers her mounting frustrations. Readers can’t escape the worry on her face. Even in vain, Omega’s attempts to pride support fail to help. Their spirits change as Magik proposes her plan. A simple panel of smiles and hands raises lights the ticking emotional timebomb.

With a full page shot, the team enters for battle. Pacing moves very quickly as the groups clash. The art locks in on the building rage of Juggernaut. Even with his helmet, readers can see it rising. No one steals the show more than Staley here. Close up of her eyes as she transitions her fear into anger leads to a solid near full shot. The moment never lets readers escape her emotions pouring out. It reluctantly ends the conflict in certain degrees. Another X-man’s brutal message is sent via a disturbing half panel. Not even an X-Villain’s visit to a shocking location can top that moment. The final page raises some questions before closing the door. With “Revelation” en route, it should be something to see how this all factors in.

OVERALL GRADE: 8.5

With Cyclops away, Magik decides to play. The result turns deadly as her team walks head-on into danger. MacKay spotlights the evolution of a new mutant with the writing. Diaz and the art team balance the conflict with the huge emotions weighing in. Action, Drama and Heroics.. What else could you want more from the X-Men?

GREEN LANTERN #26 (DC COMICS)

There’s a big void in the universe. No one has any emotions. This is in part to Starbreaker’s scheming. With a new power battery absorbing the emotions off the universe, there is little care to stop his squad. Note, Little does not mean none.

Ava, Jadestone and John Stewart’s Ring have been unaffected by the Sorrow Battery. They lead a reluctant group to the Source Wall for answers. What they find will either help or destroy them.

GREEN LANTERN #26 by Jeremy Adams, V. Ken Marion, Romulo Fajardo Jr. & Dave Sharpe continues on with “The Starbreaker Supremacy”.

Let’s take a closer look at where things stand now.

Adams bring a deal to the table that can’t be refused. Once the Lanterns have breached the Source Wall, they find emotion Avatars. Their travel also results in a break from Starbreaker’s hold. Readers see the return of the Lanterns, but not without strings attached. The dialogue between parties teases a possible way to end the fight. It doesn’t take long for this notion to go out the window.

The writing shows how one Lantern is onto the schemes at hand. Actions are taken to broker an even playing field. Adams sets this up with a possibility to crash at any moment. The result is a much needed moment for Hal and company. Readers watch as the action picks up with a newfound purpose. Pacing speeds up with many crowd pleasing panels. The end result becomes a major turning point. It does leave a notion that much can go wrong. But for now, a fitting finish reflect the current state of the Lanterns.

Marion and Fajardo Jr. welcomes readers into the issue with a full page meeting. Seeing the Lanterns ship surrounded by the Avatars makes a statement. It also leads to a return look for one Lantern. Watching Kyle Rayner flashback to the White Lantern look is given a half page panel. From here, the spotlight shifts to Hal Jordan. It makes sense that if something is gonna fall apart, Hal would be around the center of attention.

A Half Page image shows Hal using unique diplomacy. The art locks in on the newly refocused emotion. It assists in moving the talks further for where the Lanterns need to go. Readers see that a few near full pages offer a monster transformation for one character. This spawns a two page splash where the issue’s brawl begins! The art shows off a wild fight with no letdown of the intensity. Its’ fallout moves everything towards a solid landing. The closing page is a full image setting a new course for the event. Where will it lead now is the true question.

OVERALL GRADE: 8.4

Lanterns, Avatars and Emotions, oh my! Adams’ writing infuses some new elements into the saga. Marion and the Art team lock in on the fast pace and space action. When the light clears, a new course is set forth. Don’t miss out on where it leads.

Annalise Alderman is been on quite the unlikely journey. Her father was killed in an attack on their island. Alistair Rook is the one responsible for his death. She was rescued by one of his robotic assistants. Her road of revenge has left quite the trail.

The latest obstacle has been Nina Pavlovna. Annalise’s robot is captured and of no help. Plus Agent Rook is still making moves in the shadows. What else can happen now?

We’re Taking Everyone Down With Us #5 by Matthew Rosenberg, Stefano Landini, Jason Wordie, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou

One notable trait with this series is expect the unexpected. The opening moments with Nina and Dante plays into the quirkiness of this story. Their banter reflects the old couple they used to be. It adds more drama into the unfolding landscape around them. Even when a traitor is discovered, his demise is handled with some dry humor.

Speaking of the humor, Agent Rook continues to steal scenes. Readers watch as his shadiness shines when called upon. Once the story shifts back to Annalise, the chapter finds its lane. The conversations with Nina pack a punch. They bring out the girl trying to make sense of this all. Tempo switches as a game of chess indicates a new path. Annalise’s endgame starts coming into focus. This play into the final pages. With all signs leading to an explosive finish, Annalise proves to be a wild card. Judging by the last page, her evolution of a character will a true deciding factor. Brace for the upcoming impact.

Landini and Wordie open up with the flashback to Dante’s final human moments. The opening full page starts the desperate decision. This moves towards a more personal time with Nina and “Dante”. Even in his robotic state, the mannerism stand out in these panels. This proves as a good counter to the trainwreck that is Agent Rook. Readers can expect him being a mess, naked or both. It all makes sense to the story.

Once Annalise steps into the spotlight, the art hones in on her realization of what’s happened now. Readers can see how she’s internalizing Nina’s banter. There is a true sense of question as the information is coming out. One strong visual is the chess board panels. It jumps out to the audience and mirrors what Annalise is thinking. This leads very well into the closing pages. Each main character gets page time while Annalise closes the show. The final page indicates what’s coming next and trust me, there won’t be anything safe to hide under.

OVERALL GRADE: 9

The pen-ultimate chapter puts Annalise in a new direction with her new stat quo. Rosenberg’s writing brings out the dysfunctional spy-fi world’s charm. Landini and Wordie construct an impressive look inside the chaos surrounding Annalise and her family. There’s no telling what to expect with the arc finale forthcoming.

ABSOLUTE MARTIAN MANHUNTER #6 (DC COMICS)

It all comes down to this. After Agent John Jones is caught in an explosion, he starts seeing the world differently. This is largely in part to his bonding with a Green Martian. As they try resuming life in Middelton, they both quickly realize that a White Martian is in town. It is leaving a trail of death and debauchery in its’ wake.

As the city suffers a blackout during a heat wave, the White Martian has amped his game up. The psychopaths are on the loose. John and his family are caught in the cross-fire. Only one will walk away from this altercation in one piece…

ABSOLUTE MARTIAN MANHUNTER #6 by Deniz Camp, Javier Rodríguez and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou closes out its’ debut arc with a show-stopping issue.

Camp presents a compelling arc finale on his way to defining the Martian Manhunter mythos. The world of Middleton has been turned upside down. Seeing the White Martian’s attack take old enhances the fear. There is a horror vibe filling these pages as Jones fights to stop the Martian once and for all. This plays off his own family’s fight against a possessed intruder. The dialogue mirrors the cautious battleground. There’s never a point where things feel safe. That’s a strength to this series and esp. with this chapter.

Readers watch as Jones unleashes everything in his arsenal. The result leads into some of the most intense battles in the Absolute universe thus far. Camp pushes envelopes with the direction of the battles. It leads to some very creative and imaginative takes. All the while, Jones and his Martian partner swing for the fences. The writing pushes towards a mind-bending conclusion. It goes without saying this isn’t your normal superhero story. Readers see how conflict fallout leads into some new directions. One of which is addressing a plot point since issue one. It leaves readers with much to be optimistic about for the future when the series returns.

Rodríguez opens with the terrifying reality at hand. Panel set up as the story switches from John to Bridget and back again works very well. It gives readers a sense of Jones’ telepathy as takes hold. This works extremely well due to the usage of colors. It presents itself in an almost psychedelic state. Once events move towards both face-offs, the art takes events up a few levels.

The panel set-up of The Jones’ house is brilliant. It comes off as the reader is walking through the home. John makes his entrance via half page panel. This flows into a gigantic vision of the Martians fighting. Seeing how the White Martian’s influence is felt, this adds more problems into the fight. Readers can see the telepathic brawl take more shape with the close-ups of eyes. Tying this back to Tyler Jones’ clay toys is a fun wrinkle into the tale. It moves events into a manic closing portion.

There’s many images to process here. None greater than the final panel between Green and White. The whole page drops a huge exclamation point on the fight. It leads into a more calm finish until the last page. Fully expect readers to have some fun with that ending page. Brilliant work all around.

OVERALL GRADE: 10

The Absolute Universe’s most unlikely duo bring forth a last stand for the ages with this chapter. Camp’s writing takes readers on an unforgettable ride. Rodríguez & Otsmane-Elhaou craft fantastic images that lock in on the mental and physical tolls taken in this matchup. This series has been nothing short of sensational. Don’t miss it!

Darksied has executed his plans for an Absolute Universe at the JL expense. The Legion of Doom struck at every angle including time travel. Even the pillars of the League are questioning themselves & each other.

It is a scary time when DOOMSDAY aka The Time Trapper is a voice of reason. Even Scarier? The League must save his life after he’s mortally wounded by Darkseid’s Legion.

Doomsday at the mercy of the Justice League?! Things I never thought would ever happen. It is a plot that could falter in wrong hands. With Waid’s guidance, this proves to be a fascinating element. Seeing how Darkseid is growing in power, this only makes the attack on Time Traveller even more serious. Leaving him at the feet of the JL sparks a frantic pace. The situation isn’t the only one carrying weight.

Since the new initiative has started, JLU has had major issues surface. This falls on the shoulders of the DC Trinity. The writing explores their errors while balancing their own stances. It isn’t often we see arguments brewing with this much guilt fueling it. This pushes Batman into a corner he’s not usually in: uncertainty. This gets just enough page time before gears shift again. Once the spotlight goes back on Doomsday, events become more complex. Waid throws in more curveballs leading to a pressured finish. It works on all levels to hit its mark in dealing with such a large ensemble cast.

Mora and Bonvillain open with a strong visual of Doomsday flying in the time stream. Panels show the fearful chase and stunning blow dealt. The half page panel reflects the audience in shock. This ultimately gives way to the Trinity argument. The art shows the range of emotions on display. Seeing the three legends at odds sends a clear message of how fast they’re failing. A shocking site to see never the less.

Readers watch as events go to Markovia. Bonvillain’s coloring and Maher’s lettering steal panels at this point. Seeing the bright flames exploding is an easy connection on their unstable mission. This leads into an intense full page panel that teases plenty. It distracts the Doomsday rescue just enough till the ending. With a simple half page panel, readers leave with a sense of how much pressure the JL is under. They also have to guess how much can they handle before they break.

OVERALL GRADE: 9

The JL is given an impossible task with huge consequences of failure. Waid’s script teeters the complexity of Darkseid’s moves with the conscience of the team’s planning. Mora and the art team craft amazing art to showcase the odds stacked against them. How the heroes will combat this is anyone’s guess.

Once here, the moral conflicts start arising. Williamson plays into the snarky quips of the brash powerhouse. It leads up to an uneasy partnership. The writing carries this uneasiness into the next phase. Even as great as Superman is, he’s not prepared for what’s next.

The duo make their long awaited entrance to a dark universe. What they find, no one is expecting. The mood shifts to match the grizzly discoveries. It is hard for Superman to process this reality. As more truths surface, all hope appears to be lost. Leave it to Superman to try inspiring hope when all is lost. The dialogue is perfect for setting up the closing phase. Pacing speeds up as an old friend makes a return. Readers get some crucial information as the final pages start. Key players are in position before a predicable but not less impactful move ends events. How Supes finds a way now will be a must-read issue.

Mora and Sánchez launch events with a recap of Superboy-Prime. This is followed up by a great full page image of all parties meeting. Seeing Superman’s shocked face speaks volumes of the situation’s gravity. Reader watch as Prime shows off his insane power levels. It leads into a wild time-travel image. The attention to detail is incredible as various timelines are witnessed. Once the journey ends, the mood swings back to a dismal feel.

The two page splash shows the horrors of Darkseid’s vision. Panel set-up walks the audience through Superman’s discoveries. Even with a heartwarming past visual, nothing escapes the now. The art showcases more old friends return as the situation worsens. One return is given a near full page. Readers have been waiting for this reunion for months! The happy moment is quickly dashed in the closing pages. A two page splash sets up a grave stand-off. It’s made worse when someone makes a dire choice. This full page image is perfect for closing shop up for now but hopefully not long.

OVERALL GRADE: 9.2

With great power comes grave irresponsibility. Willaimson brings back the unstable force with a great set-up. Mora and Sánchez drop some incredible images as the vision of Darkseid grows with each page. This current arc has been lights out and shouldn’t be missed.

Higgins and Groom hit the gas pedal and never look back form the opening page. Readers see an opening chase set a high pave. It concludes with a very shocking line: “Where’s Bruce Wayne!”. The story pivots to a more familiar territory for Batman. A body is discovered and many questions arise. In this circumstance, that is the only time events seem similar to the past.

An unlikely confrontation starts off a frantic action sequence. The writing throws in a few key twists before mixing in another startling reveal. Its’ proceeded by strong dialogue which sets the stage for the explosive encounter. This spirals into high-octane excitement. Readers watch as the fight payoff cashes in. There’s no shortage of delivering a superb conclusion to the clash. It leads into a very solid final act. The writing gives the backstory of events pushing towards a shocking final panel. There’s no way to walk away form this book without immediately wanting more!

D’Urso and Monti helm the majority of art duties for this chapter. The starting pages tease the search for clues to the new world. It is capped off by an impressive full shot of Batman finding his target. The moment is complimented by another near full shot of Bat doing what he does best. This provides a transition to Avoca’s latest victim. The scenario locks in on the gruesome discovery. Readers see how this puzzling discovery is just the tip of a larger iceberg.

With another bold panel, Batman arrives to confront the Sheriff and Mayor of Davistown. The sense of fear rises with each image. This rolls into another fantastic action sequence. D’Urso and Monti spare no expense on delivering a thrilling stand-off. This leads into more dramatic reveals, including a full page villain transformation. Readers will be enthralled with what’s happening here. A spectacular full page finishes the fight in style.

Art duties are handed off to Mora and Bonvillain to wrap things up. Their flashback pages paint the descriptive picture of events. The full page trio shot is one that won’t escape fans’ view. This moves events right to the mic-drop panel. Seeing who’s there at the end will have readers buzzing until the next round starts. There’s much to enjoy with this debut.

Trying to re-envision the Dark Knight is easier said than done. Higgins and Groom put an incredible spin on the myths with their writing. D’Urso and Monti blaze an electric blend of action and dram with phenomenal art. This has all the makings for a must-read event readers could want.

TITANS #26 (DC COMICS)

Sometimes, you just gotta get away if you’re a hero. The Titans’ most deadliest rogue came back with a vengeance. DEATHSTROKE and his crime syndicate took a large toll on the heroes. This would be a great time to reset and recharge.

It’s a great thought but this is the Titans we’re talking about. Trouble usually finds them soon, or in this case…Doom!

TITANS #26 by John Layman, Max Raynor, Matt Herms and Wes Abbott take a trip to the wild side with its’ latest chapter.

Layman throws a nice switch in dynamic for this chapter. Considering what the Titans have been through, a fun break from the norm is right up their alley. Readers see the toll taken on Cyborg. The dialogue between him and Vanadia mirrors the loss of emotions both can claim. It fits the usual Deathstroke M.O. of fallout. This spirals back onto the rest of the team. One member is trying break away from the deep wounds. Longtime Titan readers know this story all too well.

Beast Boy’s connection with Terra & Slade has never been healthy. Trying to clean his head is sound advice. Readers watch as he takes Cyborg with him. Their destination is an unlikely one. Layman dives back into Gar’s past with a visit to the Doom Patrol! The writing plays to their strengths. Their banter is very welcoming. Having an unusual mission for them is very standard. Seeing the team appear in a violate location, the pace speeds events up. They close on a solid cliffhanger. You can never go wrong with wild creatures, fun team-ups and Robotman one-liners.

Raynor kicks events off with a frantic scene. Both teams fighting monsters? Sold! The full page open is a clear indication this won’t be a normal hero tale. Cyborg’s talk with Vanadia locks in on the weight of the past altercation. Readers see the tension finally break as she disappears. The full page image of Gar leaving is a nice break from Slade’s attack as well. This allows Donna Troy and Wonder Woman to have a needed conversation. It shows a passing of a torch feel before moving onto the reunion in wait.

Readers see the instant excitement from the Patrol when Gar shows up. The panel is a great introduction to where this portion of story goes. Seeing the group break down what has occurred shows the differences in both Titans and Patrol. This leads into a great two page splash when the monsters return. A full page image locks in on the mannerisms while running away. It’s a light hearted moment that is sure to please. This leads into more interactions as another party watches from a distance. The final page reveals a new threat, but one familiar if you know the history of Beast Boy. Diving into DCU history is always a fun ride.

OVERALL GRADE: 8.6

Post Slade Wilson, everyone deserves some R&R. For Gar Logan, it means a welcome reunion of good and bad acquaintances. Layman’s script transitions into an enjoyable team-up in the making. Raynor and the art team craft the excitement seeing these two fan favorites embark on a new path. Sit back and enjoy the trip.

It’s a brand new world for the Man Of Steel. Since his encounter with an asteroid of Kryptonite, Superman has had to adapt. The deadly material is very easy to acquire. In the wrong hands, it spells disaster. His world is not the only thing that has changed.

The Daily Planet is expanding its reach. A new office is set up in Gotham City. Jimmy Olsen is sent to the new branch. When picking up Tee-nah, an I.T expert from Gorilla City, Olsen’s day at the office gets a bit more….batty.

SUPERMAN UNLIMITED #4 by Dan Slott, Lucas Meyer, Rafael Albuquerque, Marcelo Maiolo, Matt Herms and Dave Sharpe continues its “Summer of Superman” movement.

Let’s see how Supes’ best friend does in Gotham City!

One thing very noticeable is how much fun Slott is having with this series. The pairing of Olsen and Tee-nah is gold for this issue. It offsets the dramatic appearance of a Gotham rogue. Worlds collide to kickstart the chapter in motion. Readers watch as the trouble doesn’t just stay in Gotham. Even a routine rescue for Superman is difficult due to easy Kryptonite access. It doesn’t take long to bring Superman to Gotham. What he finds is a whole different story.

The writing teams up an unlikely mix of characters. One of which is Damian Wayne. His dialogue is as sharp and snarky as ever. This helps as the situation goes worse quickly. Readers watch as the weakened Superman as a new problem to deal with. This provides a chance for the newest cast member to stand out. Tee-nah should be winning over readers from his dialogue here. Action picks up and never stops rising. It comes to a fitting end with more possibilities about the current stat quo. Slott gifts readers with a perfect parting panel before bowing out. A fantastic and entertaining issue.

The art starts out with a familiar Gotham feel. Our antagonist comes in along brooding panels. Readers see the mood swing quickly when the Planet Pair drive in. Superman’s rescue does have some flare with the panels. Robin’s debut in story has a fun panel while surveying the scene. The less serious tones give way for a more dramatic time. Once Superman crashes via half panel, everything changes.

Readers watch as the action picks up. The full page of Robin fighting is a crowd pleaser. It also disguises where a turning point begins. That comes into full focus via another full page shot. The conflict is escalating quickly as more guests enter the frame. A two page splash brings the fight to the center of attention. It leads to a fantastic end panel for the conflict. Take nothing away from the final page. The last panel will leave a smile on readers’ faces as the chapter wraps up. There’s much to enjoy here.

OVERALL GRADE: 9.3

Superman’s latest trip to Gotham City goes completely off track in the best possible way. Slott’s script is a action packed tale with great one-liners. The art gives readers a super team-up that they didn’t see coming. It’s Superman at its’ finest.

THE NEW GODS #9 (DC COMICS)

The New Gods have fallen. They have been ousted from their home by The Nyctari. Lightray was killed in their attack of New Genesis. High-father has been broken. This has led for a drastic retreat to Earth. It has not been an easy transition. This all centers around a prophesized boy.

Kamal could be a savior or destroyer. Mr. Miracle and Big Barta have protected the child. Other invested parties have interest in the child. Even with help from the Justice League, it may not be enough.

The New Gods #9 by Ram V., Evan Cagle, Simon Parr, Francesco Segala & Tom Napolitano continues its’ space odyssey.

Let’s take a deeper dive into what unfolds now.

Ram V. gives some payoff for the construction of the past issues. With the Nyctari, they haven’t made a huge impact in recent chapters. Karok Ator gets a brutal flashback moment. It gives some insight into the thinking of the warrior. His dialogue with Grayven is sharp and direct. It sends a clear message to the readers of the dark vision. Cagle and Segala helm the art duties here and leave a cold impression of Ator’s plans.

Events shift gears to the fallout of Sur Tuin. The planet has been conquered. Raker Quarrigat takes the lead for this portion. Ram V sets him up a solid conflict with the Nyctari. Adding in another New God does help for the mission at hand. It does take a step back to the major points of the chapter. Readers watch as Orion and High-Father make tough calls. It hides a traitor in the midst. Once revealed, pacing speeds up. It gets the story into a much needed space. The story has been playing the long game. Readers leave with a true sense of direction going into an eventual showdown.

Parr handles art duties for the majority of the book. The conflict on Sur Tuin is presented with a more traditional superhero tone. There are plenty of action scenes for fans to be excited about. With the amount of set-up, the art focuses in on the reactions to what is unravelling. This centers around a few key players.

Orion’s new role is given a noble look. Readers see his speech visualized with an added motivation panel. Seeing Lightray’s helmet is a constant reminder of Orion’s pain of losing him. Another character that stands out is Kamal. Watching his interactions with the traitor create the uncertainty needed for the move. This is capped off by a solid full page of a shot fired. Parr works in smaller images and red coloring to make the scene pop. This moves events to the final page. Readers get a near full vision of the evil coming. It’s a bold move but one that drops an exclamation point on what’s going on.

OVERALL GRADE: 8.6

With the Nyctari in pursuit, tough calls are made with a traitor lying in wait. Ram V gives a dire picture with the writing. Parr’s images craft the sense of impending doom with a great heroic flare. The stakes have never been higher than they are now.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #10 (MARVEL COMICS)

What happened to Spider-Man? That is the question looking around the Marvel Universe. After encountering HELLGATE, Peter Parker was left as a broken shell. In the weeks of his absence, criminals are taking advantage. The Shocker and Tombstone have cashed in on the void. Everything was looking great until a familiar sound returned.

“Thwip”

The web slinger returned with an all new attitude. There’s nothing very friendly about this wall-crawler.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #10 by Joe Kelly, Michael Dowling, Marte Gracia, Erick Arciniega & Joe Caramagna bring forth an all brutal web-head to the masses.

Let’ take a closer look at where thing go from here.

Kelly poses a very puzzling picture to the readers with this chapter. Seeing a more vicious side of Spidey emerge causes a polarizing reaction. This is very clear in the fight with Shocker’s team. Readers watch as Spidey unloads a brutal message. This carries through to his alter ego. No more Mr. Nice Guy. Welcome to a cold Peter Parker.

This new persona become clear when dealing with Tombstone. The dialogue indicates a rash change in Parker. How he carries himself doesn’t seem to fit the norm. Kelly’s writing weaves this attitude in his normal interactions as well. It eaves many questions for readers to decipher.

Was there more to Hellgate than we think? In the immediate moment, Spidey serves up another message. This pushes towards a very startling end. It is a final page that will have fans very confused but invested on where this will all lead.

Dowling steps in for art duties for this chapter. Spidey jumps into action with a great full page image. What starts out like a standard Spidey fight quickly amps up a few notches. Once the brutality comes out, it changes the mood of the book. This is very evident when dealing with Tombstone.

Peter’s body language never flinches. Even in the past, there has been instances where he sells the fear. Walking away smugly sets a tone. This aura pushes through the book. Once Shocker comes back for another round, he walks in with a solid near full image. readers may think events are back to normal. This is quickly thwarted.

Spidey does a very violent act. Watching a guest look in his eyes after is a strong panel. It tells the readers that someone isn’t underneath the mask. This jumps into the startling final page. The images there throw many ideas out to complete closing. It’s a great moment to leave fans wanting more on. The fallout looks to be very bright.

OVERALL GRADE: 9

Spider-Man is gone. Long live the Spider. Kelly’s writing keeps throwing curves to the readers on its’ direction. Dowling and the art team hone in on the new attitude of Peter Parker and its’ uncharted future. It’s a broken record at this stage but: Spider-Man is back Bay-Bay!

BLOODLETTER #3 (IMAGE COMICS)

Revenge is a dish best served with some hellfire and brimstone. Tasha Thornwall had her CIA career ruined by Al Simmons. In her fall from grace, Thornwall has been keeping busy. She has been learning skills to take down the one who hurt her. If she’s going to win, she needs to bring her A-game.

Thornwall is hunting SPAWN. Ten years later, she has her fight. Is she ready to finish the job?

BLOODLETTER #3 by Joseph Illidge, Tim Seeley, Christian Rosado, DC Alonso & AndWorld Design continues the violent path of rage and revenge.

Let’s take a closer look at where things stand now.

Thornwall’s journey has taken a toll on her soul. Was it worth the price? That is the feeling readers get when getting this chapter out. Starting four years prior, Tasha’s plans put her in the direct path of Casielle aka Casper. The writing shows a hunt of the lengths Tasha goes for her goals. Winning the trust of Casper plays an even larger role down the road.

Once in the present time line, the dialogue swings to a more friendly meet. Tasha’s goals are within reach. Casper’s thoughts give a sense of belonging on this crazy path. An unexpected challenge is thrown in the way that halts progress. Readers see the pair go to work. The build from years prior comes into fruition. There’s plenty of action to keep attention locked in. This gets upstaged in the close. The writing throws in a monster curve in where Tasha goes next. It leaves a bittersweet sense of what this path has done to both. After the final panel it is clear there is no turning back now for Tasha. Never a dull moment in the Spawn Universe for sure.

Rosado and Alonso welcome readers to the scarier side of the world with the opening. Having Casper maneuver through an unknown landscape sets a good pace to grow from. The interaction with Aurielle proves a bit troubling. Whoever said angels were always innocent? This moves into a shocking half page panel. Readers watch as Tasha enters in nefarious means. There is no limits to where she will go to win.

As events timejump, the mood is more quiet and business-minded. The body language reflects two people knowing what’s at stake. Readers watch as the pair goes to work for the immediate threat. Seeing a creative way to kill some vampires eases readers into the upcoming violence. There’s no shortage of gory action images in this run. Events play into a striking two page spread. This wraps up the fight for now. It also sets the stage for the shocking close. Readers see the fallout of a decision made. It ends the chapter on an emotional note. A solid ending for the next phase takes over on.

OVERALL GRADE: 8.8

The history of Tasha and Casper comes to light as the darkness seeps further in. Illidge and Seeley drive home the levels Tasha will go in their writing. Rosado and Alonso take readers into the dire world with hope slowly burning out. The next major player in the Spawn Universe shines in this series.

GRIM #24 (BOOM! STUDIOS)

Death is unavoidable. No matter where you are in life, it is always looming. This is the same for Jessica Harrow. The daughter of Death itself and a human has had quite the journey. From confrontations with her Aunt Adira, The End and original Sin itself, it has all left scars on the enigmatic reaper.

Recently, Jessica has been trying to avoid fate. She doesn’t want to mantle of Death. Another has taken the throne by default. This leaves Jessica in new territory. It is one driven be her own choices.

GRIM #24 by Stephanie PhillipsFlavianoRico Renzi & Tom Napolitano (BOOM! STUDIOS) delivers its’ pen-ultimate issue.

Let’s take a closer look at where events land now.

Phillips splits this tale into two separate parts. The first locks in on the new Death. Marcel’s first assignment is bringing in an author. His dialogue with Desmond Pell is filled with compassion and understanding. Pell is very much against accepting his fate. Their interaction mirrors how sometimes one doesn’t get to finish their story. It is very touching as the new approach works to segway into the other side of the morbid coin.

Jessica and Time take center stage here. Under the guise of Jessica “living”, the story walks readers into a future uncertain. Phillips gives the audience a personal look at her new path. It is heart-warming with Marcel’s dialogue lurking in the background. Readers watch as the emotional gamete is covered. Events lead into a perfect ending to where the story needs to go. A final page says very little, while speaking volumes. The chapter adds so much perspective into an already masterful series. It’s another smash success.

As for the art, it’s another huge win as Flaviano and Renzi guide readers into Marcel’s sublime approach. It leads off with an excellent full page image. The conversation feels comfortable knowing the circumstances. The two page splash makes this point hit. Pell is presented as an agitated writer looking for the last line. Marcel shows nothing but compassion as the transition phase commences. This carries into the next section of the book.

Readers watch Jessica’s life play out. It is presented in a series of incredible full page panels. Each showcase Jessica at a new phase of her stat quo. Paired with the dialogue, it is sure to connect on all levels. Even with the brief dash back to Pell’s departure, Jessica’s time steals the show. It leads into the touching closing pages. As the times change, Jessica and her relationship with fate provide an incredible read. Phillips goes into overdrive to deliver an instant classic. The powerful art from Flaviano, Renzi and Napolitano take readers into the deeply emotional journey to the final destination. It is a bittersweet lead into what will be an unforgettable finale.

G.I. JOE #10 (IMAGE COMICS/SKYBOUND)

WHAT JUST HAPPENED?! The Baroness escapes to Paris for much needed space. Cover Girl has tagged along with COBRA still on the loose. Watching her parents from afar, the trip has turned very quickly.

A ghost from Baroness’ past has arrived looking for payback. His name is Major BLUDD. After kidnapping the two G.I. Joes, Bludd wants to pit them against each other. It looks like one of them has decided to play ball. Cover Girl has attacked the Baroness! So much for team work making the dream work!

G.I. JOE #10 by Joshua Williamson, Andrea Milana, Lee Loughridge and Rus Wooton (Skybound Entertainment/Image Comics continues its’ big action adventure!

Let’s take a closer look at where thing stand now!

Williamson firmly leads this story into some classic spy themes. Bludd’s over arrogance shines in his dialogue. His dialogue comes off a bit unhinged as he is about to grasp victory. It does cause some conflict with Raptor. Readers watch as the pair argue while the Joes have their fight to deal with. It results in a clever bait and switch in result. Perfect for the ever deceitful world of global espionage.

This theme carries back over to a few subplots building. One of which is Clutch’s discovery of Hound. Their covert partnership leads into very familiar places. The writing builds up a tense confrontation. It echoes the uneasiness of Transformers and humans. Williamson also adds a few more elements into play. Take nothing away from the main event. The Baroness storyline is rightfully running the show here. Both main storylines look to head towards their explosive showdowns. The only question remaining is who’s walking away from the bouts in one piece?

Milana and Loughridge play into the maniacal game of Bludd’s with the art. His reactions come across as unbalanced as expected. Having that much pent-up revenge takes a toll on anyone. It’s deflected by the Baroness’s determination to win. As the Joes fight for another round, the two page splash mixes in great fighting with the conflict. A half panel shuts down the action with Wooten’s lettering. It helps to switch gears for the other events of the book.

Clutch and Hound have their fair share of page time. The covert operation has a mysterious tag along watching in shadows. Readers watch as the mystery figure reveals himself. Clutch’s reaction says it all with more questions raised. It leads readers into more frantic scenarios. With the raised awareness of COBRA, how much would go unnoticed? This leads into an excellent final page. The full page image sends readers home anxiously awaiting what is coming next. This is textbook Energon Universe which always wins.

OVERALL GRADE: 9

The Baroness’ past comes back in a deadly way as lines are crossed. Williamson gifts readers with a hefty does of action. Milana and Loughridge build up the ever-evolving world that houses G.I. Joe and Cobra. This will be a very tough wait for next issue once the final page hits.

Project Gemini has begun! General Grimaldi’s plans for Gotham are rolling out. One big factor has come into play. Grimaldi was taken out by a new deadly duo. Clayface and Harvey Dent are calling the shots now. The only ones standing in their way is Batman and Robin. When the smoke clears, who will take victory?

Let’s take a deeper dive into the Duo’s first year.

BATMAN AND ROBIN: YEAR ONE #10 by Mark Waid, Chris Samnee, Mat Lopes and Clayton Cowles (DC COMICS)

Waid kicks off the project’s first round in style. The set-up slowly reveals Two-Face’s plan of direction. It sends a clear message of what danger the city lies in. Once events switch to Batman and Robin, the mood lightens up. Readers watch as the playful Grayson makes a quick ‘66 homage before the city takes hold. Events come clear into focus there’s no turning back now.

The writing sets off their confrontation with much suspense. Pacing speeds as the pair must make a noble escape. It plays into much of the familiar Batman tropes. Maybe this was the birth of “Prep Time?” As the pages go, so does the sense of urgency. Readers watch as the conclusion sets the stage for an even stronger final act. Waid’s dialogue hits on the Bat-family nerve superbly. It is a heart-breaking close which brings out the bond being forged. This is no longer a business affair. This issue connects it’s major building block of unlikely father and son. Excellent read.

Samnee and Lopes tease the horror of events in the opening rounds. The panels mirror the diabolical moves being made. Once the replacements see their original targets, it is clear of the power play. It is a contrast of moods when the Dynamaic Duo enter the scene. Watching the young Grayson’s playful suggestions be rejected by an ever-brooding Batman is vintage. Where it leads follows suit. That’s absolutely not a bad problem for this book.

The meeting with Gordon starts innocent enough. A panel with a “new signal” teases optimism. This is quickly dashed as events move. Readers watch as the action takes hold of the pages. Samnee and Lopes throw in some of The Flying Graysons’ playbook for aerial amazement. This rolls into a very chaotic escape from Gotham PD. Once the duo disappear, the mood swings back to a more calm state. Panels focus on their reflection of running.

Once at the closing pages, there is a surge of emotion in the duos’ faces. With what’s unfolding, its’ an instant connection with readers. The final panels show the dire ramifications at hand. It works to lock in your reaction until next chapter’s return. The art never ceases to astound with each issue.

OVERALL GRADE: 9.5

With Project: Gemini in full swing, the Dynamic Duo look for any signs of hope. Waid’s script balances out the action with a strong emotional pull. Samnee and Lopes rev up the engines for an incredible escape from Gotham City. “Year One” pushes the complex history of Grayson and Wayne to new levels each time out.

DETECTIVE COMICS #1100 (DC COMICS)

In an exclusive class all its’ own. Since 1937, “Detective Comics” has been hitting the stores and shop. A major reason for this was a character who debuted two years later. Bob Kane and Bill Finger’s creation of a Dark Knight stole the show in issue #27. It came as no surprise that BATMAN would take over the title shortly after due to his rising popularity.

Eighty Eight years later and this hasn’t changed. Batman is still running strong in the eyes of pop culture. His original home title is still the longest running comic book series of all time. There is no signs of slowing down any time soon. It’s time to celebrate.

DETECTIVE COMICS #1100 by Tom Taylor, Mikel Janín, Mariko Tamaki, Amancay Nahuelpan, Arif Prianto, Ariana Maher, Greg Rucka, Álvaro Martínez Bueno, Giovanna Niro , Dan Watters, Bill Sienkiewicz and Tom Napolitano gives readers an all-star issue to commemorate the special occasion.

Let’s not wait any longer and dive into the milestone.

The issue is a compilation of four stories. Due to the amount of stories, the overview of each tale will be shorter than usual reviews. Each carry a unique vision of the Caped Crusader:

Taylor and Janín handle “Lost and Found”. The story centers around a hearing impaired child’s search for his kidnapped dog. There is no dialogue. Taylor structures the story with much emotion behind it. This is equally matched with Janín’s art. Everything builds towards a heart-warming finish. Plus, you can never go wrong with Ace in the story. It is a perfect lead-in for where the rest of the issue heads.

Tamaki, Nahuelpan, Prianto, and Maher take “Your Role In The Community”. For this story, the direction is on the Bruce Wayne persona. Wayne’s checkbook is welcomed for an event celebrating Gotham’s heroes. The dialogue is a fresh change of pace. Readers see how Wayne handles certain media. They also get a more distinct Batman tale via the art. It finishes with a nice twist and great parting line.

Rucka, Bueno, Niro and Napolitano deal “The Knife and Gun Club”. The perspective shown is from doctors on the “graveyard shift” at a Gotham Hospital. Rucka’s writing walk readers through the impact of Batman. The dialogue brings forth new aspects on his relationship with the city. Bueno and Niro lean into the overtones of this viewpoint. It concludes with a solid landing and a new though for readers to leave with concerning Bats.

Watters, Sienkiewicz and Napolitano close out with “The Fall”. The story centers around a killer’s daring standoff with Batman. Watters puts a creative spin on the standard fall and chase. Readers watch as Batman calculates every aspect of his actions. It gives a true sense of the dangers of being wrong. Sienkiewicz is the perfect artist for this tale. The shifting landscape is presented in exciting fashion. It concludes with a very strong finish to close up shop for the anniversary chapter.

OVERALL GRADE: 9.6

The over-sized celebration for Detective Comics delivers a monster win for readers. Each tale delves into different aspects that compose Gotham’s leading protector. It isn’t a straight forward superhero issue, nor should it be. Readers will be very pleased with the visions detailed by every art team. They bring out the strengths of each writers work. The chapter leaves no doubt on why Batman has been a staple for 1100 issue and for many more to come.
