Pelletier and the art team open up with the tense arrival of the Cobra family. The tension slowly grows as Duke makes his choice on where to go. Dr. Mindbender’s time moves very steady. A half page panel teases more to come before handing off to Destro.

Kirkman takes readers into Zerta’s fallout head on. The opening sequence highlights the trials of Premiere Zalilak. It sends a strong message of how high the stakes are. Proximus carries a different tone for his portion. Readers watch as the mood is more of an eased tension. Little do they know there is one man waiting to re-route them. His name is ROADBLOCK. Armed with a .50 cal machine gun, some would say the odds are not in his favor. They would be silently wrong.

Let’s enjoy the silence and see what happens now!

G.I. JOE: A REAL AMERICAN HERO – ROADBLOCK #1 by Andrew Krahnke and Francesco Segala (IMAGE COMICS/SKYBOUND)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Krahnke brings out the best of the physical presence of the fan-favorite Joe. Knowing his knack for rhyming during combat, this is a new side of Roadblock. The feel is an all business approach. Seeing the convoy shocked when a tree falls in their way speaks loudly. The reaction of Cover Girl compliments it with a quick smirk. It doesn’t take long for the bullets to start flying. A near full page image of Roadblock crashing the party sets off events & never looks back.

The action is unapologetic in its silence. There is a sequence of panels showing a Cobra soldier being choked out. How the art focuses on his fading eyes indicates the brutal method of attack. After the rescue attempt is completed, the story is far from over. Krahnke sends in another classic COBRA soldier to intercept.

This allows for a moment Roadblock fans have been waiting for. Another near full page brings out the big guns. It takes readers into an action packed close. There are great combat scenes with much fanfare behind them. This moves the story along to its finish. The art depicts a more light-hearted ending than some may think. In this case, its’ a perfect way to enjoy the silence.

OVERALL GRADE: 9/10

The latest installment of “Silent Missions” brings out the big gun of G.I. Joe lore. Krahnke and Segala deliver on a vintage action adventure which is sure to please. No dialogue needed. This series speaks for itself.

G.I. JOE #6 (IMAGE COMICS/SKYBOUND)

It has all come down to this. COBRA has made their presence felt. Using dangerous technology, the terrorist organization struck without warning. The elite fighting force known as G.I. JOE was dealt a crushing blow. Rock N’ Roll was killed in the line of duty. This broke the heart, but not the spirit of the team.

Duke has rallied the troops into a full-on assault. Their initial play wound up delivering them into the belly of the serpent beast. By sheer luck, Duke and company turned the tables on the COBRA victory. Before Cobra Commander can attempt another move, Duke is right in his face poised to get some revenge!

G.I. JOE #6 by Joshua Williamson, Tom Reilly, Jordie Bellaire and Rus Wooton (Skybound Entertainment/Image Comics) gives fans the showdown they have all been waiting for!

Let’s not wait another minute & dive into the action!

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

To say this issue had a “big fight feel” is a vast understatement. Williamson takes readers into an intense meeting of good vs. evil. The parallels between DUKE & COBRA COMMANDER are eerily similar. As the dialogue from Commander dances around the common themes, it is countered by Duke’s rage. This is where the common ground gives way. Commander makes his play. The fate of Washington D.C. is in immediate danger. Where things go from here is into a whole extra gear.

The action blazes onto the page. Williamson structures these pages with well timed breaks. This allows the main event to continue to build. It gives enough moments where the Joe team/Destro event doesn’t feel forced. This leads into the explosive conflict end. Readers can’t deny the adrenaline push as each move is amplified. The conclusion is set up perfectly. Considering it is a first round, it nails the landing. Within the closing pages, more seeds are planted involving the new stat quo. Nothing will be a greater shock than the final page. If there was ever a mic drop moment, Williamson hits it at the key point. There’s no way readers can’t be amped up after this chapter.

Reilly and Bellaire understand the stakes with the art. The build has pushed both faction leaders into their collision course. A fantastic two page spread brings Duke & Commander’s paths into the spotlight. This pushes the art into the combustible moment readers have wanted. Duke’s grittiness is equally matched by the Commander’s confidence. Their back and forth jabs are spilt with great panels. It fuels the rest of the chapter into a fast paced throwdown.

The Joes/Destro segway is brief but hits the needed marks. Reilly hones in on Destro’s disbelief challenged by The Baroness’ bravery. Their reactions maximize their page time. Short but effective. It is well timed considering the other match unfolding. There’s no shortage of blunt, brutal action with Duke and Commander. It comes to a strong, but subtle conclusion. This leads into some reflective closing images. A few panels will pop more than others due to the surprises. None greater than the final page. The full page image changes the game for the Joes as their next phase seems to have evolved.

OVERALL GRADE: 9.5/10

Two roads converge with bullets and bravery in this phenomenal chapter. Williamson orchestrates organized chaos with the wild fighting stages. Reilly, Bellaire and Wooton expose the beginnings of a true “fight forever” with stunning imagery. This book delivers on many levels and never disappoints!

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Romero takes Charlie Iron-Knife into a dangerous path. Something is hunting animals in a forest. When a pack makes their escape, only one survives. Its’ escape crosses Spirit. After tending to the wounded animal, the hunt is on. Pacing slows down to spotlight a few elements. The first is Spirit’s tracking skills. Romero’s art takes smaller panels to show his skills. The second is to slowly raise the drama.

A two page spread reveals a major clue. Readers watch as the pages unveil a Cobra base. While searching the area, Peter’s coloring adds more context. The covert moves eventually lead to a shocking discovery. Action starts taking over the panels. It stops to show how painful this challenge has been. Readers watch as Spirit pops a dislocated shoulder back into place. No words. Just simple lines to indicate the pain. The result leads into the closing face-off. There’s no shying away of the brutality. It leaves the audience with a cold reality of the measures taken. The final page concludes events on a more level area. Rest assured the silence still speaks loudly.

OVERALL GRADE: 8.8

G.I. JOE: A REAL AMERICAN HERO - JINX #1 by Dan Watters, Dani, Brad Simpson (Image Comics/Skybound)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Knowing the concept, the writers maximize every aspect of the pages. Having each page represent a second in time is extremely creative. It adds a true heightened sense of drama. Readers see this when Jinx starts her escape. The run-in with the Crimson Guard is highlighted with a unique half panel.

The art shows how a guard and Jinx see each other. It kickstarts a flurry of action. The panels tease the violence unfolding. As each bullet is fired, the art spotlights the chaos. Pacing never slows up to ever let the time fall by the wayside. This leads readers right to the close. There’s plenty of high drama parallel to a showdown. Both give way to a final full page image. It is one that is simple but completely ends events with a bang.

TRANSFORMERS #19 by Daniel Warren Johnson, Ludo Lullabi, Adriano Lucas & Rus Wooten (Image Comics/Skybound)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Johnson stages a compelling gauntlet for Megatron to run for this chapter. Dezimir’s trials conduct a slow, methodical deconstruction. The writing brings out the defiance early. It is a side of Megatron readers know and love. In this phase, the inner belief only lasts so long. There is a sense of “Groundhog Day” with every advancement with the trials.

Only when events finally wear down the warrior does it shift gears. Johnson reveals the master plan of Megatron with a shot of flair. It is a change that throws everything into a dark perspective. The fallout shows readers what it has been trying to teach. Events are now drawn into a newfound direction. It is one that Decepticons, Autobots and Earthlings should fear. A new form of evil has arrived.

Lullabi steps in for art duties. Readers who know his work on Battle Chasers will be excited for the action here. The initial meeting with Dezimir starts with strong images. It leads to an exciting two page spread. Watching Megatron unleashed only adds to the stakes. The ruthless aggression leads into a larger opponent via a half page image.

The art starts demonstrating Megatron’s downward spiral. Lullabi’s attention to facial expression sells the weardown. Only when the story shifts gears does the art craft a new mood. Readers watch as the newfound gifts take a deadly toll. The overwhelming sense of fear takes over panels. It leads to a deceptive panel to wrap events on. G.I. JOE: A REAL AMERICAN HERO - BEACH HEAD #1 (IMAGE COMICS/SKYBOUND)

In 1983, a G.I. Joe story was released that was unlike anything fans had seen prior. Issue #21 of the Marvel Comics series led by Larry Hama released “Silent Interlude”. The Snake-Eyes focused tale is legendary. It was the first appearance of Storm Shadow. As impactful as that moment was, it is not the main takeaway from fans.

The story had no dialogue.

Fast forward 42 years later and G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero is having a renaissance under the Skybound Entertainment Banner. The series has restarted in continuation under Hama in 2023. Going in on that success, the line is revisiting this creative style of story telling with “Silent Missions”.

G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero – Beach Head #1 by Phil Hester, Travis Hymel, and Lee Loughridge launches this new initiative.

Let’s take a closer look & see if this new mission is a success.

G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero – Beach Head #1 by Phil Hester, Travis Hymel, and Lee Loughridge (IMAGE COMICS/SKYBOUND)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Hester throws Beach Head (literally) into a demilitarized zone when a COBRA helicopter crashes. The full page image sets a tense pace for this mission. Two orphans find him and help him escape. The dire situation reflects the war torn landscape. Hester and Hymel spare no expense on the gritty ordeal. Readers watch as the orphans struggle to survive. This touches a chord with Beach Head. They helped save him. He intends to return the favor.

Once COBRA catches wind of survivors, the issue hits the gas petal. Hester unapologetically brings the brutality of war to this issue. Beach Head must act quickly to survive. Readers sense the mood change when he dons his mask. The mid page panel resonates with readers. Loughridge’s coloring compliments it well when the action starts. It thrusts the survival instinct into the spotlight. Even when one of the children try to get involved, Beach Head acts valiantly.

The fallout plays into a solid finish. It also gives a definitive thought to the readers. Beach Head’s gesture to one of the kids is subtle but reflects change. Sometimes, the past should stay in the past.

OVERALL GRADE: 8.8

The modern take on a classic Joe storytelling style hit a direct bullseye in its debut mission. Hester, Hymel and Loughridge craft an exciting tale with heart and action. It’s a creative take that speaks volumes in silence.

G.I. JOE #5 (IMAGE COMICS/SKYBOUND ENTERTAINMENT)

Time has run out for G.I. Joe. On their heels from Cobra, Duke and the remaining squad are in the belly of the beast. They’re behind enemy lines. Destro is ready to handle business. Rock N’ Roll was the first Joe to fall. Are more of the team doomed the same fate?

G.I. JOE #5 by Joshua Williamson, Tom Reilly, Jordie Bellaire and Rus Wooton (Skybound Entertainment/Image Comics) kicks into high gear action with its latest chapter.

Let’s not delay and head right into the throwdown!

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Williamson cracks everything to 11 with this chapter. Seeing the Joes at their lowest should seal their fate. Duke comes across as defiant to the overwhelming odds. His actions reflect that of either pure bravery or insanity. Readers may actually question this at one point. One action proves to quiet that inquiry long enough to throw everything into high-gear.

The only moment where things slow down is with Cobra Commander. The evil leader is solely focused on obtaining power. Williamson writes him as cold and ruthless as he should be. Commander makes a chilling move. It gets lost in the action but circles back to the close. Readers won’t mind as the action is what they came for. There’s no shortage of that here. As eluded to, events circle back to the Commander. His goals hit a snag in the form of a monster cliffhanger. The only thing wrong with this is we have to wait for next issue. This series just doesn’t miss.

Reilly and Bellaire light the fuse for the combustible face-off in style. A two page spread brings Duke face to face with an “old friend.” Seeing the punches connect gives readers a sense of what to expect. Its aftermath is set up nicely. Even in a beaten state can Duke still appear to win. Readers see the power of “Vroom” come into the spotlight.

Destro’s standoff accelerates the wild action to another gear. It also gives readers a much anticipated moment. I’m genuinely surprised this wasn’t a larger panel. It still delivered on the intended goal. Reilly goes for smaller panels. The compact images don’t take it easy. Pacing is really flying at this stage. Only Cobra Commander’s smaller role slows things down. Save the drastic action, it assist in providing a simple break point. This all leads to a monster final page. The full image sets up a can’t miss event that readers will be jazzed to finally see. Strong work per usual.

OVERALL GRADE: 9.2

Can Duke rally his defeated team for one more round? That is the question posed in this latest chapter. Williamson takes readers for a daring confrontation with the writing. Reilly, Bellaire and Wooton raise the stakes with the non-stop action. This series sets the blueprint for what dramatic action should strive for.

TRANSFORMERS #18 by DANIEL WARREN JOHNSON, JORGE CORONA, MIKE SPICER AND RUS WOOTEN (Credit: Image Comics via Skybound Entertainment)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Johnson brings the house down with this latest chapter. The Cybertron portion debuts the latest Autobot in grand fashion. Shredhead’s injection lifts up the scenario. The panels are all big action. It establishes him as a true threat to the Decepticons. The writing gives them a sorely needed win in comparison to the rest of the chapter.

Ultra Magnus’s portion reflects more on the deep emotional wounds he has suffered. The bonding with Carly helps to start healing. Johnson gives these little fleeting spots before throwing more weight on the constant battle.

All of these plots take a back seat to the main event. The Battle of Seattle devlivers on all accounts. Readers watch as the best shots are taken from all sides. Optimus is helplessly watching this brawl take place. No one is ready for the new combatant to enter the field. It is a long awaited return that sends shivers up the audience spines. The fallout launches a new era into effect for the Energon Universe. All bets are off on who will be standing in its wake.

Corona and Spicer put a Hollywood monster fight for the latetr half of this issue. Before that arrives, they give Shredhead a large statement. The action panels leave little doubt about his impact. Case in point is the half page image where someone is shredded. The Ultra Magnus portion is a wide range of fractured responses through healing. Both will connect with readers. They both are shown up by the Seattle brawl.

The art team make this whole sequence feel like a Godzilla-King Kong showdown. Each sides’ Combiner makes a claim for a throne. One stands tall through A TWO PAGE SPLASH CUTTER! The wrestling fan in me marked out seeing this! Starscream and Soundwave’s fight is as vicious as it needs to be. It stops on a dime when a certain return happens via a haunting two page spread. This leads to a striking final image. The darkest hour appears to be setting on the Autobots. Brace for impact.

OVERALL GRADE: 9.8

The war between Soundwave and Starscream ends with a thunderous conclusion. Johnson adds in much emotion with the intense fighting. Corona, Spicer and Wooten construct a devasting melee that shows no mercy. There’s never a doubt at the high level of quality with this series.

G.I. JOE #4 by Joshua Williamson, Tom Reilly, Jordie Bellaire and Rus Wooton (Skybound Entertainment/Image Comics) delivers on another loaded issue of action and danger!

Let’s take a closer look at where things stand now!

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

If you want action, you’ve come to the right place! Williamson loads this issue up with some high-octane moments. The Crimson Twins make an immediate impact. Their chase of Duke and co. leads to a dangerous call. Readers watch as even the best laid plans sometimes fail. It is a polarizing call to make. Knowing what else could transpire, the decision exemplifies what the Joes are all about.

On the flip side, the evil of Cobra slowly slithers to the page. The deadly press on Stalker shows how far they’re willing to go. It leads to a calculated strategy before secrets are revealed. Readers witness the endgame in this beginning encounter. The closing act throws another curve ball into play. Just when you think you know the answers, the writing changes the questions completely.

Reilly and Bellaire waste no time escalating the pace. A two page spread shows the Twins in full pursuit. Duke’s expressions say more than words. There is a sense of worry creeping in. This spills over into the fight’s next phase. No punches are pulled as the confines of the road get displaced. In its wake is a more domestic scene where the violence can’t stand. It causes a tough choice before moving events along.

The bloody onslaught didn’t stop there. Chameleon and Ripper shine through the chaotic panels. It leads to a shocking call made by Cobra. A two page spread shows the Commander in all his glory. Victory is in reach. The Commander’s body language reads like he has won. All roads lead to the full panel final image. Just as it looks a certain way, one sentence changes everything. There’s no slowing down what is being built in this series.

OVERALL GRADE: 8.5

It’s a heavy dose of big action within the Energon Universe’s premier team. Willaimson pens an intense chapter with the writing. Reilly, Bellaire and Wooton hit a bullseye with explosive panels. Judging by the last page, the story hasn’t even begun to cap off.

TRANSFORMERS #17 by DANIEL WARREN JOHNSON, JORGE CORONA, MIKE SPICER AND RUS WOOTEN (Credit: Image Comics via Skybound Entertainment)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Johnson keeps finding ways to break the Autobots. With Optimus loosing his grasp of reality, they are scrambling. Readers watch as Prime doesn’t have time to worry. He has to act fast in comparison to others. Beachcomber’s stance of conflict continues to stand apart. The writing shows a true neutral voice to the anarchy around him. It is fitting for the constant battles raging out of control.

This carries through to the Cybertron portion. The Autobots there make a play to gather help. It is full speed ahead as the action rages on. Elita steals the spotlight while handling her business. Considering how damaged Ultra Magnus has been, any signs of life here push the story along. Once the resistance breaks away, they give fans a monstrous moment. Hope may have arrived. The final page looks to be a true catalyst for change. A solid ending to the wild fighting at hand.

Corona and Spicer add more depth to Beachcomber’s mind frame. The images back up his claims of seeing a larger picture. It’s a big contrast to the state of Ultra Magnus. The near full page image shows the broken Autobot in a new state. Their images for Optimus Prime are small but effective. Knowing he may have lost control only sink their ship further.

The Cybertron portion is filled with emotion and action. It carries a Hollywood aura as the final resistance stand takes hold. Elita’s fighting is given a strong half page to convey her message. This goes toe-to-toe with Prime’s daring rescue attempts for the humans. With Bruticus and Devastator laying waste to Seattle, Prime switches gears to the defense. A half panel shows the fruits of his labor. It is quickly overshadowed by the final page. The full image welcomes a big surprise into the never ending conflict. This is just another day in the office for the high skilled creative team here.

OVERALL GRADE: 9.1

The never ending battle continues to stake its destruction of Earth in this new issue. Johnson’s writing takes the heroes into their breaking points. G.I. JOE #2 by Joshua Williamson, Tom Reilly, Jordie Bellaire and Rus Wooton (Skybound Entertainment/Image Comics)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Williamson never lets the foot off the gas with this issue. It’s non stop intensity (even in quieter moments). Seeing one of their own killed covers a range of emotions. *** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Johnson spares no details in showcasing the devastation of the Decepticons’ attacks. Soundwave comes across as the cold, remorseless leader he needs to be. Even when other Decepticons don’t buy in, he remains unfazed. It’s a complete contrast from Prime. As he struggles to hang on, Prime winds up grasping for anything. His conversation with Beachcomber is prime example. It is a new look to the noble leader. This comes into full focus when he sees the devastation caused in fighting.

The Autobots new neighbors are none too happy to see them. There is a sense of fear and anger filling the pages in this sequence. Readers watch Optimus have a small breakdown. This is nothing but a delight to Soundwave. It is short-lived as another major character makes his return (with his new look). Even with the Cybertron side-plot, nothing outshines the return of a former Decepticon. The closing page proves that He didn’t come alone. Readers watch as a heavy hitter is introduced which spells certain doom for Optimus and Earth’s inhabitants.

Corona is back in art duties after a two issue break. The destruction in Tacoma is brutal and intense. It builds the tempo for the remainder of the issue. Soundwave appears menacing while standing in the chaos. This carries through the brief Cybertron stop. Cliffjumper watching his fellow Autobots cross a line strikes a nerve with the audience.

It is overshadowed by the dramatic return of the disgraced Decepticon. Corona and Stern present the new player’s entrance in a near full page. It speaks volumes as the conflict picks up. This leads into a fantastic two page spread. The Decepticon civil war is in full swing! Just when readers think they’ve seen it all, the last page drops. A BIG x-factor emerges, spelling certain doom. Its a great way to close out events for now, but certainly not for long.

FINAL POINT: 8.8

With Soundwave inching closer to complete control, a new player enters the game. Johnson fills the writing with emotion and action. Corona returns with Stern and Wooten to provide the impactful images that are always more than meets the eye. This series continues to set a high bar that few other books can continuously reach.

TRANSFORMERS #14 (SKYBOUND ENTETTAINMENT/IMAGE COMICS)

The quest for power fuels and faults most Decepticons. Starscream is the perfect example of power corrupted. In his blind journey to rule, he has been ousted by Soundwave. His robotic body broken. Left for dead, the mind races. How did the feared Transformer get to this point? Is there any hope in his future?

TRANSFORMERS #14 by Daniel Warren Johnson, Jason Howard, Mike Spicer, and Rus Wooton (Skybound Entertainment/Image Comics) concludes the dive into the mind of a broken warrior.

Let’s take a closer look at how things shape up now.

TRANSFORMERS #14 by Daniel Warren Johnson, Jason Howard, Mike Spicer, and Rus Wooton (Skybound Entertainment/Image Comics)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

A scorpion can’t help itself with its actions. It’s just its’ nature. Starscream is blinded by his obsession for power. Even in his broken state, the writing never lets this theme escape the readers. The uneasy alliance between Horton’s crew and Starscream is based on lies. Both are trying to use the other for their goals. One is well-versed in this aspect and flourishes as the story progresses.

The flashbacks to Megatron and Cybertron showcase the last sense of morals die inside the robotic body. Events lead into a new location but a few predictable directions. It comes across very solid as Starscream’s genuine arrogance flosses over the set-up. The closing act leaves nothing to chance as the true nature of evil emerges. It is a fitting conclusion for where the next phase of Starscream is heading.

Howard caps off art duties with some strong visuals. Seeing the new form of Starscream is debuted with a two page splash. The art sneaks in a few humorous panels (involving a cat) before stepping back into the drama.

The flashback moments bring Starscream full circle as readers watch his complete turn. The full page image of him and Megatron unleashing their terror won’t escape readers. It tips off the audience about what’s coming. Watching the long work play out answers many thoughts as the road to redemption beings. The parting image closes the door of the past while opening up a more dangerous one for the future.

FINAL POINT: 8.6

The journey into a deadly Decepticon’s path of redemption closes on a solid note. Johnson slow builds the drama with the writing. Howard, Spicer and Wooton brings the misleading nature of a broken soul to life with the images. The Energon Universe had better brace for the unforgiving evil forthcoming.

G.I. JOE #1 by Joshua Williamson, Tom Reilly, Jordie Bellaire and Rus Wooton (Skybound Entertainment/Image Comics)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Talk about making a statement! Williamson gives both new and seasoned readers much to rave about with this chapter. The opening segment works to establish the initial team as they enter this new era. Using Duke as a narrator gives a unique perspective as to how he sees each member. The result instantly connects with the audience. In comparison, the COBRA introduction is more subtle and gives just enough to understand their motivations.

One character that looks to play a much bigger role is Risk. The brief welcome leaves quite the impression. Once that is completed, the pace picks up with no looking back. Williamson hits the gas as the action bolsters into high gear. The closing act brings out the best and worst of an inexperienced team. Stakes have been raised and just wait for what unfolds on the final page! It is a hell of a mic drop.

Johnson pens a tragic tale of innocence lost. Seeing the hated Decepticon in a new light gives an engaging perspective. Knowing how power hungry he is now, the writing portrays him as a loyal friend broken by loss. The result leads to a turn that gives big depth into the striving for acceptance.

It plays off where readers last saw him in the Energon Universe. Coming off the brutality of Soundwave’s onslaught, the current state of Starscream is unstable. This is only made worse by who he’s discovered by. As the ties with the Energon Universe become closer, the footnotes being left are consistently raising the stakes. However, the main driver in this chapter is the past. Howard steps in for art duties and gives Starscream’s past an exciting feel. The opening pages recaps recent events with a new twist. It leads into the revealing side of Cybertron’s past. TRANSFORMERS #12 by DANIEL WARREN JOHNSON, JORGE CORONA, MIKE SPICER AND RUS WOOTEN (Credit: Image Comics via Skybound Entertainment)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Johnson has systematically broken Optimus Prime with his writing. For this closing chapter, Prime hits his final points. Readers watch as he unleashes the pent-up anger on his over-confident foes. The result shows a role-reversal. No longer the stoic leader. Johnson replaces him with someone looking to end events once and for all. The change in persona leads to a drastic measure taken. It becomes a polarizing moment for the legendary head of the Autobots.

Prime’s stance causes some friction with his allies from Cybertron. Elita and Prime’s dialogue brings forth many old emotions. Defending Earth doesn’t register with Prime’s old ally and choices are made. Johnson ramps up the drama in this section. Its’ build presents readers with an impactful conclusion. The ramifications of the latest stand undoubtably leaves a massive cloud hanging over head. As one door has closed, another one has completely swung open.

Corona and Spicer continue to shine with the fantastic artwork. Carly’s valiant effort to help pops off the half page panel. It’s given a perfect complimentary image of Cliffjumper smiling in approval to her actions. Pacing speeds events up to a thunderous stopping point. A half page image unveils the destruction that has just transpired. This becomes the starting point for Optimus Prime to become unleashed.

The art team leaves nothing back as Prime delivers his frustration onto the Decepticons. One in particular scene drops a huge exclamation point within the pages. Seeign Prime’s eyes switch colors for this action was a great touch. It left readers no doubt that something out of character just happened.

Another excellent moment is the conversation with Elita and Prime. The art team encases the bursting emotions to give the ultimate choice made more gravity. This leads to an excellent full page splash! With Prime’s guilty narration, the closing image will have readers talking as to the fate of the Energon Universe’s alien protectors.

FINAL GRADE: 9.6

With its’ second arc coming to a show-stopping finale, Johnson, Corona and the team present readers with an intense read. Johnson’s writing pushes Optimus Prime to new heights. Corona, Spicer and Wooten construct amazing imagery as a new stat quo appears on the horizon.
