Story Overview:

After the failed assassination attempt, Jace was captured by King Remora on suspecison of being the assassin. Remora’s right hand man Chancellor Piranhor wants Jace to be killed, but Jace brings up the fact that Space Ghost may not be dead. Of course, Space Ghost isn’t dead. He is on his way to Glasstor to confront the emperor about firing the weapon at Liquo.

After battling with Glasstor he must save the planet from the return attack from Liquo. After the attacks the entire galaxy is on edge and it’s up to Jan to find out who is responsible to bring the war to an end.

Writing:

The mini event ends in this issue and it’s a glorious ending. David Pepose does an awesome job as always of bringing the world of Space Ghost to life. The drama Pepose brings to the world really brings the reader in and leaves them on the edge of their seat. The different layers of the story and how they unravel are a masterclass of emotional writing. The action that is in this book is also top tier and very entertaining. Not to mention the little added piece about the mastermind Tempus, sets up where the series is ultimately going.

Artwork:

This issue's artwork is exceptional and matches the high standards present across the whole series. Jonathan Lau consistently produces outstanding results, reflecting his extensive expertise and strong standing within the industry. Andrew Dalhouse masterfully matches colors with the art, while Taylor Esposito brings real emotion to the lettering. This accomplished art team continues to demonstrate excellence, delivering outstanding issue after outstanding issue.

Final Thoughts

Space Ghost Vol. 2 #5 adds another strong chapter to an already impressive series. The comic stands out because of its talented creative team, making it among the top titles available right now. Within mere moments, Pepose makes it seem that he’s written Cable for years. The writing displays Summers’ gritty drive to win at all costs. It never escapes readers that Summers is there for a mission. The encounter with Cicada keeps skyrocketing the danger to a solid finish. It’s a great segway to hitting the major plot to the futuristic tale.

Salvation Bay provides an edgy background as Cable finds a unique ally. Avery deals with the same deadly virus. The dialogue lowers Cable’s guard long enough to show a different side. Seeing someone else going through his trials provides an unlikely connection. The writing slowly peels back the tough exterior. What is left is a more “normal” reaction rarely shown. This evolves into Cable inheriting Avery’s fight. It doesn’t take long for the action to ramp back up.

Once the smoke clears, the closing moments hit. Pepose sets the stage for a future uncertain for all the right reasons.

Henderson and Prianto hit readers early with the post-apocalyptic energy. The vehicle which Cable is pinned to sets the tone for the issue. It’s a creative near full image that fires off the action in style. The scene is matched by another strong full page image of Cable taking control. This pace carries through the pages of the initial conflict.

Once Avery makes her debut, the one shifts down to a more grounded level. The art reflects two soldiers easing their guard over common ground. Readers watch as Cable leaves his gruff guard to become open to another virus victim. This becomes short lived due to an attack. The new pairing (literally) jump into action via a full page shot. Cable’s reactions during the battle show a rare sight: smiling. This energy leads into the finish. The final pages show the major players put into position for a devasting conflict in the making.

The X-Men’s time-travelling titan crashes into comic shops with a thrilling debut. Pepose balances the fast paced fighting with the building drama with a phenomenal set-up. Henderson, Prianto, and Sabino bring the pain with extreme action while teasing the danger yet to come. This is one you won’t want to timeslip and miss!

Pepose wastes no time hitting the ground running with the action. Keeping the story centered around Jan and Jace made for a solid play. It allowed the title character to be a looming presence. The kids’ fight for survival is only amplified by this technique.

Readers watch as the classic characters get a revision with a darker overtone. The pacing allows for Space Ghost to flourish for a new audience. Each time he appears, it gives a sense of importance and awe. This is especially true with the final page. Events conclude with a thunderous exclamation point as a hero has emerged through chaos to save the day.

Lau’s imagery crafts a more serious feel to the adventure at hand. The action sequences pop off the page. It allows readers to get a sense of what the hero is unleashing on the bad guys.

The initial appearance of Space Ghost is greeted with a half page panel worthy of the legend.
