Hart and Segura do not leave anything on the table with this finale issue. There is many moving pieces to keep track of. It never felt like anyone didn’t get enough page time to finish their story out. Geraldine’s story set the stage early for where the book was heading here. The issue had a “big fight feel” to it as every page seemed to build up the intensity more and more. The eventual Jotham/Sister Theresa run-in did not disappoint as well as Hazel navigating thru the melee to find her sister. The resolution won’t disappoint as the major players seem poised for further adventures. There weren’t too many lingering threads in the aftermath. The final parting image should have readers guessing at to what’s next for Hazel and company.

Eisma goes full throttle on this issue’s big moments. The fights pop off the page and bring an intensity to what’s about to unfold. The showdown readers have been waiting for didn’t falter. Seeing Geraldine navigate thru the inferno she created provided a break from all the furious action. The fallout images set the tone for what an event the melee was. The final moments of the book close out this chapter with a parting shot on where the characters are heading that fans can’t help but be excited about.

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

This season has shown Lara’s difficulties of balancing her super-hero vs normal everyday life. Lara’s personal life has taken some hits as she delves into the mystery surrounding a new threat in town by the name of Harrow and the corruption and body count that is pilling up in her wake. The first encounter didn’t fare in Lara’s favor and only by Harrow’s decision assuming Lara wasn’t a threat did our hero survive. Now, with last issue’s revelation of Harrow’s true identity and a new danger making their presence known, The Black Ghost sets forth for the final showdown.

This issue opens up with Lara digging into more of the background of Deborah Alverne aka Harrow. Alverne is the widow of a former Creighton mayor who blames the Police Department. With her anger, she has assumed the identity of Harrow and is enacting her revenge. Lara gets some unlikely help from Boyle, a fellow reporter at the paper. With some research of old files, Lara makes the connection needed to bring down Harrow. While this is unfolding, Lara’s girlfriend, Molly, cals with good intentions but the talk goes south fairly quickly which eludes to the end of the relationship. While balancing out all this extra events, Lara sets forth to confront Harrow at an old church.

When she arrives, Lara sees her tech sidekick Ernesto, who was presumed missing or worse last issue, has found his way to Harrow himself. The pair starts making a picture of events and recognize that LONE has returned. Lone played a big role in season one and his return means the stakes have become even higher. Without a moment to spare, Harrow makes a grand entrance into the story and readers won’t be ready for what they see! Sporting a unique new look, Harrow has police commissioner Paul leGrande captured. It’s time for The Black Ghost to act, but can see pull this off?

Readers will sit ringside for this rematch as they get some lingering questions answered that will build up this confrontation even more. There are surprises galore going into the final act that won’t disappoint anyone. They’re well timed and take nothing away from the build-up readers have been waiting to see pay off. The conclusion delivers on closure for some stories while the final image will have readers guessing when, not if, will we see Crieghton’s defender sooner than later.

Fantastic conclusion by Segura and Gallagher tying up loose ends. This latest tale showcased Lara trying to stabilize her dual identities with varying success. Her personal life as a reporter and partner was pushed by her drive to bring down Harrow. Lara doesn’t do everything perfect and readers can’t help but to get behind her on facing these issues head on. This issue proved without question that Lara is a hero and has earned the mantle of the Black Ghost. How she handles herself against the final challenges is proof of that. Pacing was perfect for hitting all the big moments. There are great surprises mixed in the drama. Harrow and one other character have can’t-miss panels. Readers will have much to enjoy with this story and speculation of the final page’s parting image.

Kambadais sends readers home very pleased with the artwork this closing chapter. No one will be ready for what Harrow does with her look. It’s a great twist that plays well with the writing. The action scenes cap off some big story points. Great full page image to conclude the biggest fight of the issue. The character moments between Lara and Molly are ones that illustrate how much Lara is trying to maintain the balance and what the cost is for being the hero Creighton needs.

For this entry, we’re taking a peek at the latest offering from a series on Comixology Originals that has a big 2023 planned for it. Ask For Mercy: The Circle of Time #3 by Richard Starkings and Abigail Jill Harding
takes readers into some imaginative directions as season four moves forward. There is a lot going on with this series so let’s dive right in and see where the new addition to the saga takes us, shall we?

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

If you’re just joining in this series, the saga is based around Mercy, who is recruited by a team of hunters to join the fight against hideous evil. Season Four has started on an interesting note with the characters of Becky, a young child and Ratmir, who can shape shift into a werewolf type creature escaping danger in Rumania but not without unraveling a major secret about Becky: she’s a younger version of Mercy! Now the pair (along with Jill Anderson) are in the year 1997. Last issue took a step away from that story to give some background on the characters Archimandrite and Alizarine, the protector of the planet Tertiarus, who also hid Mercy from the evil Kroach.

This issue jumps back to 1997 as the trio who escaped from Rumania are now at Becky’s grandmothers house. The trio is waiting for others to join them but they appear to b waitinga while….as in twenty years. The story then shift back to Tertiarus before it fell as Alizarine and Mercy are kidnapped by Absolm Mooncrow, a sky pirate with a vested interest in Mercy’s worth. What started as a scavenger grab has now upped its ante as Mooncrow wants to make a statement to the Pantheon of Tertiarus. Before he’s able to do that, an attack is made on his shop. It’s one he might not be ready for but Alizarine is. What choices are made to fend off the threat? Can all parties work to survive this? What happens if they thwart off the danger? Readers are taken on a sky-seas voyage with lots of excitement along the way. The final act carries enough weight to have readers guessing what unfolds next following this issue.

There’s lots of big action this issue to have readers attention. Starkings shifts the story away from the time traveling trio for another moment in time that look to have more serious implications. Alizarine and Mercy’s encounter with Mooncrow plays up the tension on who’s really has the upper hand. Starkings never tips off too much with the chess moves between the major players here. Once the threat shows up, the dynamics changes dramatically. Readers get to see literally and figuratively Alizarine work his magic to much delight. The final act pays off for what the build was intending. How this all factors int the bigger picture remains to be seen but readers won’t be disappointed with all the action here.

Harding brings some noteworthy moments to life within this issue. Seeing Mooncrow’s ship in full detail was excellent. The full panel introduction for him and one of his crew jumps out. The biggest moment of the book will be when the threat attacks Mooncrow’s ship. It’s a full page panel that will lock readers in with its’ details. Haring really lets the imagination grow with this shot. The page elevates the story and gives a true sense of danger to the players at hand. The other actions panels have a steady pace to them as it all makes for an engaging sequence building towards the final act. Readers will have much to enjoy with the artwork featured in this chapter.

*** POSSIBLE SPOILERS WARNING ***

Since their initial formation, these Savage Avengers have brought the action and impacted quite a few time eras along the way. What started as Deathlok (real name: ***** *******) hunting down Conan The Barbarian has become a fateful encounter connecting Anti-Venom (Flash Thompson), Daredevil (Elektra), Weapon H (Clayton Cortez), Black Knight (Dane Whitman), Cloak & Dagger has spun into a visit through the Hyborian Age to now navigating thru the landscape of Nueva York 2099! The Hyborian saga had many amazing surprises that you should make sure you grab the TIME IS THE SHARPEST EDGE TPB and see for yourselves, but the 2099 story has just begun…

The team (minus Conan - see TPB) is now making their way thru the new timeline with an uneasy addition to the mix: Punisher 2099 (Jake Gallows). The mission has now shifted to taking the fight to a true evil figure no matter what timeline you see him in: ULTRON. In this time frame, Ultron has an army of Deathloks at his disposal. The Avengers make their move to fight and encounter another figure that could be a game changer in their quest: Victor Von Doom of 2099!

This issue opens up with a flashback to 2091. Ultron begins a takeover of Latervia but Doom is always ready to defend his country. Doom triggers a song to play which activates Latveria’s defenses. Readers fast-forward to 2099 and witness what is known as”The Iron Front” : Doombots versus Deathloks. The Savage Avengers escape in the Punisher’s ship and fly away while hearing Doom’s idea to stop Ultron. An artifact (a time-array gauntlet) might hold the key to stopping the future. The team balances out but having some personal conversations, none that will hit readers more than Anti-Venom and Deathlok.

The good times don’t last long as they are shot out of the sky by a Deathlok soldier. The impending crash sees Doom teleport away while the others deal with the aftermath of a surrounding army hot in pursuit. In a surprise move, Doom comes back to help the Avengers escape and ultimately arrive at their destination to acquire the time-array gauntlet, but are met with Ultron and his opposing force who has been letting the team lead him right to the weapon.

At this point, the issue really kicks into high gear with the action. Readers will NOT be ready for what unfolds next as the battle rages onward. There are no punches pulled. There are no breaks to catch a breath as the battle The situation takes a dramatic turn as the Avengers throw everything they have at Ultron. How does the team fare? Trust me when I say: NO ONE is expecting what happens in the final act. No One. Readers - get ready for a mind blowing conclusion to this issue.

Pepose pulls out all the stops for this issue. Pacing set events up spectacularly to drive home the key moments. Adding DOOM to this highly combustible team made for some very memorable sequences. Doom’s “rescuing” of the team after the crash was perfectly capped off with vintage Doom Dialogue acting as everyone “should be grateful” for his help. Overall, The dynamic between members has been very enjoyable to see grow. The scene between Anti-Venom and Deathlok hit all the high marks and gave a bit of time to catch a minute from all the action. Heading into the final act, readers will be caught off-guard and will have some big surprise moments. The final scenes will have readers locked and loaded to see what happens next without question.

Magno brings the blockbuster action that has become a staple for this series. Even the smallest conflict has the “big fight feel” added to the dialogue. The opening full page spread explaining the “Iron Front” set the tone early for the rest of the issue. Even the quieter panels had huge emotion to them. None greater than the Anti-Venom/Deathlok sequence. The remaining battle scenes were bold, loud and direct, which fully complemented Pepose’s dialogue. The final page of this book established the looming jeopardy ahead and will have readers speculating how this will all play out.

In case you’re new to this series, Jessica Harrow is a reaper, helping to guide dead souls to the other side. When a routine assignment goes off the track, Jessica realizes there is more mystery to her than she can even fathom. The journey has shown some insane twists and turns with the current stat quo being she (along with her friends Eddie and Marcel) are now trapped on Earth thanks to Adira. There are so many amazing moments going on with this series that fortunately for readers, GRIM Vol. 1 SC Discover Now Edition is hitting the stores this week as well!

However, this issue kicks off with a trip to No Man’s Land 1917. The scene is intense as war is fully in gear and soldiers mounting attacks. There is a notable red marking on their foreheads. As a solider lines up to shoot, he is killed by opposing fire. His body falls at the feet of a very notable character of the series: DEATH!

From here, the story shifts back to a gentleman walking into a club and catching the act performing on stage. This gentleman is Harold, the messenger, who approaches the singing group after the performance. Harold informs them of changes, but the trio already is aware of the shifting events of the afterlife.

At this stage, the story now shifts to Jessica (as well as Eddie and Marcel) are attending a music festival. This has been the first moment to adjust from the events of last issue and their apparent exile. Jessica takes a break from the music to clear her head with a walk. On this break, she runs into someone with the same mysterious red marking on their forehead like the soldiers at No Man’s Land. What happens next will throw everyone off! What does this stranger do? What is the secret behind the marking? What is going on with the epilogue. Welcome to the new phase of Grim! Readers will have much to be buzzing about with this issue.

Phillips doesn’t skip a beat with the returning arc! The mystery of the red markings should be something big when it’s all said and done. The introduction was pulled off exceptionally well. There are so many questions to guess at (granted,it’s the first issue back), but that’s what makes Grim stand out from other books. It’s constantly keeping readers on edge and not letting things tire. Seeing Harold pass along about the changes happening is another plot point to watch for. Pacing was great as the major players had enough panel time to hook new readers into the story. Seeing how Jessica is processing last issue’s event capped off a strong return.

The art of Flaviano (with Renzi’s coloring) takes this whole story onto other levels. One area that is always noticeable is the way music is incorporated into each issue. The lyrics of the song playing always stand out on the pages. Napolitano’s lettering makes them all pop on each scene. From the club scenes to Jessica zoning out to some Bruce Springsteen, these moments don’t go unnoticed by any reader. The statue scenes with Jessica at the festival really shine. This book has a style all it’s own and visually, there’s nothing like it on the shelves. You need to see it all for yourself.

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

In case you’re checking this story out for the first time, Kenny and Ted are friends trying to find their way through high school in 1987. After coming across an old comic with a classic ad for “magic specs” that can grant wishes, the pair never expected the glasses to appear at their doorstep. Utilizing the shades’ powers, they both start using the powers for their own means. Things are going well until a bully (Bernard Slyman aka Skunk) comes across them in the woods looking for payback of an earlier incident. With one wish, the bully disappears and the pair’s lives would never be the same.

This issue kicks off with the pair running back home after the encounter. Ted was cut by the Bully’s knife and is tending to the would. Ted wants to destroy the glasses but Kenny sees it as a means to bring Skunk back. Ted vetoes this move. The discussion leads to Kenny to say about running away and almost slips up admitting his feelings for Ted. After trying to decide on a plan B for what’s coming with a missing high school student in a smaller town, Ted tries wishing Skunk came back. This wish doesn’t work.

Days go by and the town is now catching wind of Skunk’s disappearance. The pressure is starting to build on the pair. Manhunts are now out searching for him. There’s an investigation at the school which starts cracking the bond between Kenny and Ted. All of that pressure makes one of the pair make a wish that certainly didn’t go the way they planned. Readers will not be ready for the repercussions of the latest wish. Where do the pair go from here? Can their friendship survive this latest drama? The drama is now at a fever pitch with no signs of slowing down.

Great second issue. Booher pushes the pair’s friendship to the break with the fallout from their actions. Factoring in Kenny’s feeling for Ted only adds to the drama and choices made. Booher paces the issue out where readers can truly grasp the time of events. Skunk’s disappeance takes hold of the town and the emotions of those involved pour out. Seeing the young pair trying to navigate through the mess they made never loses its way. With the conclusion of this issue, it will be very interesting to see how the pair makes it through as friends and if the glasses’ powers are too strong to break from.

Shehan locks in on the retro energy with this issue. For being in the 1980’s, the look never sways away from that era. The moments that jump out in this issue carry the emotional weight of the tale perfectly. The 5 panel page of the initial discussion between Kenny and Ted oozes out the emotional burden the pair now carries. The town’s reaction is another big image here. For being a bully and even at one point, being recognized as a no-so-nice person., witnessing the town showing out to search adds another layer to an already impassioned filled issue. The final image drops a big exclamation point on what’s happening here and it proves to be a big win for the readers.

The series is only just getting started but its’ one you won’t want to pass on for new comic book day.

In case you’re just reading for the first time, Nathan Burnett and his best friend Marshall are the hero known as Radiant Black. Their story has been a mix of adventure, rebirth and resilience. Recently Nathan has tried getting back into the super hero game after time off while Marshall is becoming more familiar with splitting the power Radiant with someone else. The pair have split off into their own stories with Nathan confronting Radiant Red in jail about a note left while he was in a coma. On the other side, Marshall (along with Radiant Pink) head to Brazil to investigate a disturbance which turned into “a giant goddamn robot”!

Yep… A GIANT GODDAMN ROBOT! LET’S GO!!!!!

This issue kicks off with Radiant Black (Marshall) and Radiant Pink trying to thwart the attack of the humongous robot. Readers sit ringside as they see the pair try their best to low down the attack. Radiant Pink thinks on the fly and implements a fast plan to seemingly win this round as the robot is dropped into the ocean. After one round, Radiant Black & Pink 1, Giant Goddamn Robot 0.

From here, the story switches Gary, Indiana and an old friend who’s putting the puzzle pieces together to what is coming ahead for the planet: Radiant Yellow! Meanwhile, Nathan finally catches up to Marshall and Radiant Pink about what’s going on. They have a conversation at a familiar place in Radiant Black lore. Unfortunately for them, the moment is short lives as the Robot is now in Wisconsin ready for round 2.

How does the trio fare in the second round? Will lightning strike twice and they escape unscathed or does the robot take round 2? With immediate danger heading right at them, readers see what the heroes are willing to do to take down this threat. The final image will give more foreshadowing for what lies ahead and close out the story on a solid finish.

Higgins wastes no time jumping into the action with this issue. Readers see a great use of Radiant Pink’s powers as an offensive weapon. The dynamic between all of the radiants made for great dialogue. Everyone’s reaction watching the Robot appear in Wisconsin is prime example. Nathan’s was especially priceless. Since he is re-adapting to the super hero life, his reactions connect to the readers more effectively to elevate the story. Higgins teases more dangers are laying ahead and that’s a big win for the readers.

Costa brings the action right from the start with his issue. Readers will enjoy the battles with the robot and each panel doesn’t slow down. The art truly captures the intensity of the fight. The conversation moments come across as a great counter to show the effect of the heroes dealing with what’s going on. Readers will also enjoy the full page Radiant Yellow image and all the little Easter eggs scattered around the page. There’s much to bare witness within these pages that fans will enjoy.

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

This issue starts off in New Orleans in the 1950’s with a man waking up from a dream. His name is Shawn Thacker. He wakes up to what appears to be a normal life: wife, son and getting ready go to wok. His son Tommy wants to spend some quality time with Dad and go fishing. Thacker says yes, but the mood shifts when Tommy mentions going to the basement for their fishing poles. Thacker sternly tells his son to stay out of the basement, cause “that’s where the monster is”. Readers get a front row seat as Thacker goes down the stairs and see the “monster” up close and personal. A masked man named Ferris is ties up in the basement! The conversation is cold and tense as Thacker is being provoked by his prisoner. After getting his fishing poles, he leaves his prisoner and heads into town,.

From there, Shawn Thacker drives into a bigoted crown protesting (reflecting the disgusting hateful climate of that era) on the way to work. After a brief detour into a bar, Thacker returns home to find his wife and son severely wounded for the man in the basement….who has escaped! At the hospital, Thacker has a talk with his wife with dire news involving their son coming to the forefront. Thacker tells his wife that their son is not going to make it through his wounds from the attack. The couple says their final goodbyes and Shawn Thacker is suddenly thrusted into the future out of nowhere. At this stage, Readers start getting more clues onto what Thacker’s mission has been and why he is on a mission to save the world or let it be ended?

What is the mystery about to unfold here? How is Thacker attached to his prisoner? What is the connection with the prisoner’s actions? Are the time travelling days over? Where does the story go now? Readers will have much to digest with reading the incredible story unfolding here.

Tomlin sets forth an intense read that will keep readers guessing from start to finish. The character of Shawn Thacker is a complex one to say the least. After his time in New Orleans, the future sequence sheds some insight on what is going on here. It poses the question to the readers of who’s really telling the truth. Tomlin writes Ferris a line in the future timeframe that actually questions if Thacker is the hero here. Seeing their connection “work” is going to make for an explosive dynamic the more this story plays out.

How else can you describe Bermejo’s art in this book other than masterpiece. Bermejo switches styles pending on what timeline he’s illustrating. From the photographic 1950’s to the more vibrant future along with the various timelines shown, the book will captive readers with how much it jumps off the page from the opening cover. The interactions between Thacker and Ferris showcases how much they’re both committed to their causes and what lengths they’re willing to go to each succeed.

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

The story opens up with a 19-year-old woman names Kacy Martin squaring up against some kind of monster in front of fellow students. The monologue breaks down there’s some kind of past and present happening in this situation when Kacy proactively goes after the monster. From here, readers are taken on a flashback to Kacy having breakfast with her mother. Readers witness that home life with Kacy and her parents might not be the best before she heads off to school and a “study group”. That group means a house party with her boyfriend T.J. and best friend Krissy. The music is loud and the beverages are rolling. Things are fine until Kacy wakes up from passing out on the couch.

Readers bear witness to a sequence of something nonhuman finding Kacy but to what extent is still unsure. The story shifts back to Kacy waking up and returning home…..but home isn’t exactly the same. Kacy thinks it’s Saturday when in turn, time has passed faster than she realized. Once Kacy arrives at school, she runs into T.J. and Krissy, but neither know who she is. What happened since the party? How come no one remembers Kacy? And where did that big monster at the beginning of the issue come from? Readers will have to start putting those puzzle pieces together and have another question raised on the final image from the issue before it’s all said and done. Get ready.

If you’re a new reader to the blog, we’re very big Cullen Bunn fans here. From his work on the latest run of Shadowman for Valiant Entertainment to Basilisk for Boom Studios, Bunn is known for doing fantastic work. Being the first issue, there’s much to start finding out about the character of Kacy, but there’s only a few layers peeled back to see what’s unfolding. Her story goes off into a frightening direction once she realizes her friends don’t know who she is. It is at said moment, the horror element hits the high note. Few pull this off better than Bunn. From a slow-burn build, the moment when Kacy realizes things are not right connects with readers instantly. Kacy has no real time to process this as another factor comes into play which throws more questions about her into the mix. Pacing kept everything moving forward and left a solid foundation to built this imaginative tale off from. There’s still a lot of mystery left to be deciphered here which is never a bad thing.

Bivens balances out the normalcy of Kacy’s life pre-party and the unusual changes post very well. Kacy’s “new world” makes quite the impression with the creature she’s fighting in the beginning of the issue. One thing to already pick up on reading this issue is to expect the unexpected. Bivens captures the worry and fear when Kacy realizes things are not what they seem when she returns home. It’s a brief moment in comparison to some of the other scenes in the book but it compliments Bunn’s writing to push it to the forefront. Imo, this is where the story really licked into gear. The final image leaves readers with a parting shot to keep them guessing until next issue.

CENSUS #4 (COMIXOLOGY ORIGINALS)

Welcome to an all new edition of Parlay Points, the comic book blog for the ODPH podcast! For this entry, we're checking out the latest chapter from a great series on comiXology Originals. CENSUS #4 by Marc Bernardin, Adam Freeman, Sebastián Piriz, Bernardo Brice and Sarah Litt take readers along for another assignment with Liam Malone & his unusual work for the census bureau. The book has been a great mix of humor and drama thus far. Let's see what's going on here and if the win streak continues, shall we?

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

In case you’re just joining in, Liam Malone is a likeable loser trying to find work and make it through this crazy place called life. When he applies for a job with the census bureau, Liam thinks it’s a sign of things changing in his favor. Unfortunately, not everything is what he thought. Liam works for the census bureau…but his job requires him to record the supernatural beings of New York City. From the start, he’s dealt with demons, leprechauns, and shape shifters just to name a few. After his last assignment, Liam gets ready to call it a day until a familiar face returns to see him: Lilith, the demon he “got close with” in issue #1.

The issue opens up with Liam and Lilith catching up since their initial encounter. The point of Lilith trying to get Liam on a date was a fun read as the bus driver had to jump in and guide Liam. Just when he thinks he’s got a win, his boss Mr. Pictor arrives to scold him on his recent escapades. Liam’s taken some different actions to get the job done and that is catching the eye of his boss. Liam walks away not too concerned as proceeds onto his next assignment: a cthulhu who proves to be quite charming.

With that meeting taken care of, Liam makes his way to a pizzeria in Hell’s Kitchen. Liam thinks he sees a literal ghost heading to the basement. As he walks down the stairwell, Liam finds ghosts of enslaved peoples on a burial site during the time of slavery. Liam leaves without any signatures and discusses what happened on his date with Lilith. During that conversation, Liam gets an idea to give the ghosts some closure thinking that will set them free from where they are living. What is Liam’s plan how to do this? Who does he get involved to help out? What will be the outcome if he pulls this off? Readers can expect more of the winning formula that this series has been delivering in answering those questions.

Bernardin and Freeman continue to present Liam Malone as a character of humor and heart. Thru all his “fish out of water” dealing with his job, Liam always comes across as someone who tries to be better that what life has thrown at him. The moments with Lilith and the bus driver came across very funny and work to win readers over each time. Seeing how Liam deals with the wide variety of characters he’s come across has shown a great deal of growth as he deals with his job. Seeing some of the supporting cast get more panel time as a nice change of pace. The story was entertaining in seeing what lengths Liam is willing to go to make things right no matter the consequence. Witnessing how his boss handles the latest event will be one to keep an eye on moving forward.

Piriz’s rendition of a cthulhu was amazing. It made for one of the more memorable scenes in the issue. Seeing the interaction with Liam and Lilith also made its’ presence known. Considering all the supernatural elements involved with this story, seeing the human aspect get valuable page time worked to connect readers with Liam and keep him grounded while moving thru assignments. Piriz’s attention to details (such as the cthulhu tentacles) was exceptional. The supporting cast got more attention this time around and Piriz made the most of their efforts in reflection to the story, where they haven’t had a ton of panel time previously. Great issue.

FINAL POINT: Census #4 progresses the legend of Liam Malone forward with another entertaining read. c Bernardin, Freeman, Piriz & the team don’t stray far away from the successful blueprint they’ve followed since issue one. Exciting writing (and humor) mashed up with fantastic art has made Census required reading each time out. Don’t pass on this issue for new comic book day.

The story centers around Grayson, a social worker grieving from the loss of his brother, and Wren, the only survivor of a gruesome family murder he visited earlier. Through the course of the first issue, readers see glimpses of another world where monsters seem to dwell. How this is all connected remains to be seen, but it is a factor that haunts Grayson from his past until now. At the conclusion of last issue, It appears as a cataclysmic event has occurred with Gray and Wren set into the future starting a new quest all their own. The quest: Save the world.

Where this issue starts is the time “After The Fall.” Wren and ray are making their way across a grassy field. Wren comes a Pika which she becomes fascinated with. As she chases the creature, a hawk swoops in and kills it. Wren’s reaction is pure anger and she morphs into a monstrous creature and kills the hawk. Only Gray’s command and staff appear to stop Wren, even if it takes a toll on him. As the pair advances on their quest, they encounter more creatures. They keep moving until they come across a militarized zone known as “Port Oregon.” While there, the pair try to sneak in unnoticed while gathering an item that could be a game changer. How this quest goes is anything but easy. Is there success for the pair or are there more issue lying ahead? Can Gray survive with what’s happening around him? Readers will not be expecting what happens next or what is presented with the final image of the book.

Brombel lays out fragments of what the future holds for the pair with a steady paced story within these pages. Seeing Wren unleashing the Behemoth was a big surprise when she became angry. What came off more shocking was the effect Gray’s mind was suffering throughout this issue. For all his efforts, his struggles became a focal point when they were progressing with their mission. Connecting the moments between both issues is going to be a fun ride for readers to decipher along with. The final moments will raise some questions but re-enforces there is a big mystery involving these two and will they make it to the end to figure it all out.

Robles welcomes readers to the new world post-fall with a new, visually brighter landscape to expand upon. Port Oregon introduced some new characters that gave some insight into how this new world is working. Very solid 2 page spreads to set up a few key moments in this issue. The one involving Wren unleashing Behemoth will be the one that stands out most to readers but the Port Oregon one gives a broader picture of how this area is working in the shadow of the fall. Wren’s reactions to all of this gave certain moments a bigger impact along with a final shot to close this portion of the story on. The series is just kicking into gear but there’s a great deal of intrigue to have reader’s attention for the long haul.

The issue kicks off with a stranger appearing on the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. They are communicating with someone before readers attention shifts to a live stream from “Evaplayss”, where Radiant Pink is guesting on. Unknown to the viewers watching the stream is Eva IS Radiant Pink, the radiant with teleportation powers. Helping pass this illusion on is Eva’s best friend Maddie who is engineering the stream behind the scenes. During the stream, Radiant Pink announces that she will be making an appearance to raise money for children’s cancer research at the Kathryn Mitchell Children’s Hospital. After ducking out of the stream as Radiant Pink, Eva goes back to game streaming for many hours.

This causes concern from Maddie who thinks Eva is burning herself out with the superhero lifestyle she’s living in secret. Eva brushes it off to go on “Pink Patrol.” Readers get an insight to what Pink’s routine is being a hero and what toll it takes on her. It’s matched by a conversation with Maddie and her grandmother about Eva’s state. Solid debut issue & very welcoming to new readers of the character. The writing team of Camarena and Flores introduces Eva’s world and how perception isn’t exactly reality. Eva tries portraying everything is fine but it’s a great cover to the loneliness she is experiencing being a popular hero. The conversation between Maddie and her grandmother about Eva was a standout moment. Seeing how others are noting Eva’s break-neck speed of life, it gives some clarity on the drama about to unfold. The charity event provided a great glimpse of the hero in action. The writers also left a strong cliffhanger image for fans to process heading to the next issue.

Kubert brings a lot of energetic panels to life with this book. From the fun moments dealing with the initial stream to the candid talk between Maddie and Eva, there is some fun and light-hearten scenes to counter the action from the charity event. Kubert showcases Eva’s emotional side in some great panels as well. Two that jump right out is Eva getting told how much the event raised and to the two page end of her heroic day. Pacing never felt too fast as the story progressed easily into the big action moments in the issue. The final page sets up things nicely for next issue with small hints of what’s to unfold now.

The creative team makes Eva’s world very accessible to the latest adventure which shows a lot of intrigue moving forward. In case you’re new to this comic, the story centers around Lona Steelrose. Lona is the daughter of Yua Steelrose. On a fateful match vs. Cobrasun, Yua is fatally injured when Cobrasun is performing a move and slips. 10 Years later, Lona wants to become a pro wrestler, determined to follow in her mother’s footsteps. Her family doesn’t want her to do it, but when approached by Willard Necroton, a necromancer with a proposal Lon can’t say no to: enter and win my tournament and her mother will be brought back to life!

This becomes a no-brainer for Lona as she enters the “Deathlyfe Tag Team tourney”. There’s one hangup: Lona needs a partner. The solution becomes reconnecting with the man who wrestled Lona in her final match…. COBRA SUN!!!! Since we last saw Cobrasun, the masked wrester has now dabbled into the pro wrestling deathmatch scene. When Necroton presents the tourney idea to Cobrasun, he’s reluctant to take on Lona as a partner, but does. Readers are hit with a HUGE reveal when Cobrasun is revealed to be Lona’s father and Yua’s husband!

From this point, the pair enters the supernatural tournament. Readers are taken thru one hell of a range of emotions as the pair fights their way to get to the main event! Much in the vein of great pro wrestling (LONG LIVE GCW), there are swerves thrown in the story but there’s nothing short of the incredible action going on between the ropes. Through some luck and timing, the pair winds up winning the tag team titles after initially losing the tourney. Unfortunately, Necroton’s promise turns out to be false as he can’t bring Yua back. The issue will leave readers will a final image that will carry them forward post match.

Incredible issue and series from start to finish. One thing Daniel Warren Johnson has become well known for is the big action and big emotions from his books. Do a Powerbomb lived up to that label and then some. As an avid pro-wrestling fan (Check out the ODPH or 607 TWS podcasts for proof), Johnson’s attention to the wrestling styles made for some fantastic visuals. Mixing in Lucha Libre, Strong Style, and Deathmatch to name a few, Johnson demonstrates how wrestling can literally tell a story. Seeing great tag teams like ORANGABANG & The Knights of Rhyne made for some memorable matches. This issue captures the “big figt feel” as the tag team faces off in a match they shoudn’t be in but readers are fully invested on every near fall till it’s conclusion. Johnson books a match that lives well up to the hype.

However, the theme that will hook readers (regardless of their wrestling fandom) is Lona’s determination to get her mother back. Johnson crafts Lona’s quest with sheer determination and will. Readers can’t help but pull for her and Cobrasun to win. Johnson also keeps the surprises coming and this issue was no exception. Each issue shows how much Lona puts on her shoulders as she strives to win the tourney. The match’s conclusion will throw some readers off but it nails the landing for the series. The final moments deliver on tying up the journey at hand and the final image is guaranteed to hit all the emotional buttons on every reader who sees it. Johnson doesn’t let the action sway away from this. The whole series has been about various stages of feeling and never misses that mark to close on.

Gailey sets up a strong debut issue keeping readers on edge from start to finish. Elise comes across as a character in over her head but making the most of the situation she’s in. The banter between her and Leona worked to show that even with the inexperience, Elise is showing she can figure this case out as well. St Brigid’s commentary played off well as a small dose of comedic relief but giving more mystery to what’s starting to unfold. The mystique of the ship is one readers is one with so many possibilities that readers can’t escape from. Pacing kept everything moving so when the big closing act hit, readers were hit with the shocking moments perfectly. Excellent introduction issue.

Kangas delivers on presenting a futuristic mystery with many layers involved with it. Seeing how Elise is coping with working on the ship gave a bigger understanding to her character. This played well into the final series of events of the issue. Kangag didn’t hold back on the gruesomeness of the crimes unfolding. Those visuals established how dangerous those threats are and how this is taking a toll on Elise. The rest of the characters introduced have their moments to stand out and gives readers a solid foundation to where this story is going from here. The final moments of the book put a huge exclamation point on the issue with a full page vision to drive home the danger which lies upon the ship.

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

In case you’re just joining in, this story centers around a brutal murder in Utah in 1891. Marshall Holt, a legendary lawman, is assigned to the case before he retires. When investigating, Holt is led back to the town of one of his most terrifying case: Canary. It is in Canary that Holt crossed paths with Hyrum Tell, a psychopath who’s heinous activities have scared the bravest of lawmen. The images of the children Tell killed in the flashback last issue give a true indication of what evil Holt was fighting against.

Upon his return, Holt meets up with Edison Edwards (or Ed-Ed), & Mabel Warren, daughter of Canary founder Chester Warren, as they investigate a cave that may hold the key to solving the case. The cave has its own dark history as well being the spot where Chester and some miners were killed. With the use of Edward’s Sonotron, the trio investigate the water levels of the cave. Their findings come as a shock to all as voices are heard saying “WE’RE STILL DOWN HERE!!!”

This issue opens up with Canary Mayor Gem using the Sonotron to investigate about the voices heard in the cave. Meanwhile, Holt, Edwards and Warren make their way to an abandoned house that Chester used as a headquarters for a group known as “The Global Geological & Divination Society 1081” or House 1081. Inside the house, there may be more clues to solving the reason behind the grizzly murders of the first issue. As the three move throughout the house, they dive deeper into the story behind the “Canary Evolution” theory and brace for some massive reveals.

All that said, one of the biggest shock surprises is what Mayor Gem pulls up from the cave with the Sonotron’s rope … or should I say who? The fallout from this moment is big. Even with this reveal, readers are 1000% NOT READY for the final page of what closes this issue. What do the trio find at House 1081 and what makes Canary so special? What came out from the mine thanks to Mayor Gem and WHAT ABOUT THAT LAST PAGE! Get ready for another can’t miss issue in this series!

Leave it to Snyder to keep dropping surprise after surprise after surprise this issue. Readers will have much to process with the two main stories happening here. The mystery behind House 1081 made for excellent drama as Holt starts pulling back the curtain on the secret of the murders. There’s a quiet moment in the book that connects everything with Holt’s past and present. Snyder spins that into the story perfectly so when the emotional impact hits, readers will feel its’ weight.

The other main story is Mayor Gem’s discovery. Snyder progresses that storyline much like the “canary Evolution” formula. There are any twists and turns with this plot that readers witness the growth into the final form (last page) and can’t help but be blown away. Excellent work pacing these big moments out where none overall the other.

Panosian bestows some amazing visuals throughout this issue. The atmosphere created by the art adds layers of tension and uncertainty as Holt ad company try finding answers. It plays off the writing flawlessly. Mayor Gem’s find at the mine is a full page shocking moment that will connect with every reader. It’s balanced out but the attention to details within House 1081. Later in the book, there’s a scene where Holt is looking at some framed pictures. Panosain makes those panels stand out with great detail and how it connects to a major reveal hits all the marks. With all these fantastic visuals to witness, Panosain drops a lasting image to close this chapter out that fans will be buzzing about.

DOOM PATROL Season Four part 1 review (HBO MAX)

Welcome to a very special edition of Parlay points, the comic book blog to the ODPH Podcast. For this entry, we are checking out the return of one of the best television/streaming shows, let alone best comic book shows to hit the airwaves. Making its’ season four debut on HBO Max on December 8th, DOOM PATROL is back with an all new season! From their comic debut in DC Comics in 1963 to being one of the initial starter shows for the DC Universe service in February 2019 (along with “Titans” which just returned to HBO Max a few wees back), the quirky superhero team has won over fans with their unique adventures.

Season Four kicks off a very busy season for the heroes as they are slated to have a brand new series, “The Unstoppable Doom Patrol” by Dennis Culver and Chris Burnham, featured as a part of DC Comics’ new “Dawn Of DC” initiative slated in March 2023. I can’t stress enough: if you like what you’ve seen thus far on the show, make sure to sign up for DC Comics Infinite and check out some of their great comic stories. You will see the influence of the Grant Morrison run throughout the tv series.

Speaking of the series, DOOM PATROL will debut its’ first two episodes on December 8th with single episodes running thru January 5th before taking break and resuming later in 2023. The ODPH podcast was granted early screening privileges to the series premiere so here is out SPOILER FREE review!

Doom Patrol Season Four - Airing on HBO Max starting December 8th

In case you are not familiar with the Doom Patrol, they are a group of super powered individuals who are flawed but still push forward somehow saving the world in the process. The team is comprised of:

Elasti-Woman (April Bowlby) who can stretch her skin but struggles to maintain it,

Negative Man (Matt Bomer), who radiates a dark energy being inside of him

Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero), who’s multiple personalities each have their own powers

Robotman (Brendan Fraser), who’s human brain was installed into a robotic body

All of which were at one point being helped by Dr. Niles Caulder (Timothy Dalton) until a massive reveal in season 1 fractures everything. Cyborg (Joivan Wade), the longtime member of the Teen Titans and most recently the Justice League, was added to this line-up for the series since the beginning. Cyborg is half man, half robot following an accident at his father’s lab. Joining the team this season is Madame Rouge (Michelle Gomez), a “frenemy” last season who can change her shape.

Throughout the previous seasons, the team has dealt with their haunting pasts, personal discoveries and encountered a wide variety of characters such as Danny the Street, Mr. Nobody, Kipling, Gargaux The Decimator and the Sisterhood of Dada to name a few. To say there is no show like this on TV/Streaming is an understatement. The adventures have lived up to their comic book legacy leaning heavily into their time on the “DC Vertigo” Mature Readers and “Young Animal” imprint style of story. It stands out on its own due to its incredible ensemble cast.

How Diane Guerrero hasn’t won an Emmy for this role is a complete travesty in my humble opinion. The same can be said for Frasier, Bowlby and Bomer who each have had standout arcs within the first three seasons. This show transcends the typical super hero formula as its strongest themes are how these individuals deal with their own personal issues and push forward to do the right thing, even if they have no shot of winning. Heading to season four, the bar has been set very high for this show. Does it hit the mark?

The answer is a resounding YES! Season Four kicks off with the group “working” as a team under the leadership guise of Elasti-Woman. The first mission viewers see goes off as one would expect with this team and is a perfect way to kick the season. From here, the team’s plan of a simple trip post mission goes drastically wrong. With a detour into the future, the Doom Patrol gets exposed to what might be the end of the world and at what cost it might take to stop it.

From the initial start, viewers can bank on another strong season from Diane Guerrero, who handles such a complex character with seemingly ease switching personas as per the story direction. Jane’s story continues to be one of the noteworthy plots of this show. Guerrero persists making Jane a must watch factor of this show. However, the one character to keep an eye on this season will be Jiovan Wade’s Cyborg. From the offset, he looks to have a big story line on the horizon. This will be a great upgrade for Cyborg, as he’s been the “outsider” of the group for quite some time. Personally, I think the banter back and forth between Bowlby and Gomez, who is such a great addition to the show, will make for quite a few memorable scenes.

This season doesn’t stray away from the winning formula that has made the show such a hit from the beginning. The writers continue to embrace the challenge of each individual’s struggles while braving the offbeat surroundings they find themselves in. Viewers can easily connect and root for this group of misfit toys because each actor isn’t holding back from adding to the emotional depth of their characters. For as much as this show doesn’t fit into a certain mold, it makes its own that more shows should follow.

Doom Patrol Season Four - Airing on HBO Max starting December 8th

FINAL POINT: Let’s get weird for all the right reasons! Season Four of Doom Patrol comes out the gates swinging with a perfect blend of delight and dysfunction. The story looks as it will challenge the team more than they ever have been before. Viewers can tag along and witness strong performances from Guerrero, Fraser, Bomer and the team as they navigate to find a way to help save the world and each other in the process.

Hit me up on the ODPH social media accounts and let me know what your thoughts are on Doom Patrol.

In case you’re jumping in now, Ellie Hawthorne’s life has become way more complicated following the death of her uncle Alfie. With his death, the 72 devils of the Ars Goetia have now been freed from their damnation. It’s up to Ellie to send them back to where they came from by any means necessary. The first issue was an in your face welcome to Ellie’s world with magic in the air and questions galore to solve.

This issue opens up with a flashback to Dora, the New Orleans officer who is working with Ellie on figuring out what happened to Alfie. During her time on the force, she’s shown handling a school shooter and her direct way of defusing the situation. Dora’s tactics lead the shooter to kill himself and Dora is removed from the force. From this, Dora meets a stranger in a bar whom she connects with: Alfie Hawthorne. From here, Dora and Ellie start breaking down the recent events and covering the tracks of the massacre they survived in the first issue.

The story now shifts to Dora confronting mobster Frankie Wax, whom Ellie is now working with to stop the devils. After a brief meeting, Ellie and Dora meet up again to start putting pieces together bout what is going on. Unfortunately there’s no rest for the wicked as the magical element shifts again, prompting Ellie to get some help in dealing with this latest move. Who is now drawn into the field? What possible impact can they make? Does Ellie get more information about Alfie? There might not be time to process all the moving parts as the final panel will have readers guessing what is going to happen now!

Spurrier delivers on another strong issue of writing. Dora’s introduction was well-crafted to explain her character and seeing the dynamic play out with Ellie moving forward should be a treat for readers. The journal pages left by Alfie explaining the new characters in the issue is a great add. With so many new players being introduced, the quick one page read helps tremendously in getting an idea of what they’re about. Ellie continues to be an interesting character to watch as she’s written with varying flaws but still trying to make sense of whats happening here.

Adlard balances out the supernatural with the real world with impeccable skill. Dealing with the magical entities popping up throughout the story, Adlard keeps things grounded to where they don’t stand out for wrong reasons. They all fit right in for creating a unique vision of Ellie’s world. Seeing the emotional tale of Dora’s background play out was another intense chapter in this story. There truly is something special happening within this story.

ROGUE SUN #8 by Ryan Parrott, Abel, Natalia Marques and Becca Carey (editor Michael Busittil) kicks off a brand new tale after last issue’s creative triumph using the”Choose Your On Adventure” format. Re-inventing the comic experience is a staple of the Radiant Black-led universe, which continuously does this each time out. It’s no wonder why many feel this line of comics is the hottest one currently on the shelves at the local comic shops. How does DYLAN SIEGEL fare in his latest outing? Let’s not wait any longer and dive into this latest issue, shall we?

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

In case you’re checking out Rogue Sun for the first time, when his father is killed, DYLAN SIEGEL becomes the heir to the mantle of Rogue Sun, who is the last line of defense against the supernatural facing the world. Dylan gets a rude awakening into his father’s world with surprises and enemies challenging him at every turn. After surviving his battle with Cataclysm, Dylan was thrusted into a confrontation with Ornate, who pushed the hero to his limits. Now recovering from that fight, Dylan tries returning to a normal life.

This issue kicks off with a man returning home to find a mysterious stranger waiting in the wings for him. The man, referred to as Suave, recruits the gentleman to help him with a mission. After initially being turned down, Suave applies some pressure and reveals a hand marking on the man which aligns with the markings on Suave’s face.

Meanwhile, Dylan returns home to his step-family’s estate which plans are in motion for him to change. One said plan is for Dylan to return to school after taking time off. All the while, Suave and his group are on a roof top trying to access a forbidden door. Who are they trying to contact? Parrott comes back from the CYOA break-away to usher Dylan into his new arc with a solid foundation. The introduction into who appears to be the next foil to Dylan was set up wonderfully. Very few writers can capture the youthful brash voice of a character quite like Parrott. MMPR readers know how great he is at this, but now with a creator-owned character, Parrott is really letting loose and it shines thru. Dylan isn’t necessarily your typical hero. Dylan is tough to be around, much due to the anger he’s felt at home. Channeling that into a hero has been difficult but Dylan is learning on the fly. It appears he’s going to learn about great power and responsibility the hard way. The final act is going to leave readers amped up to see what’s next.

Abel returns after a hiatus from last issue with another great issue. seeing the dynamic play out with Dylan and his “family” makes for some entertaining panels. Other great moments involve the reaction of many when Dylan returns to school. There are plenty of notable responses to such a polarizing person. It gives solid balance to the Suave story and how dark that gets in a hurry. The action moves very fast and picks up steam as it heads towards the final act. Fantastic final page to conclude the latest chapter on.

The groundwork for something big is being set with this issue so don’t miss this book at the LCS this week.

The saga of Bibi’s heroic evolution continues to be absolutely incredible. Flores presents Bibi as a character who doesn’t do everything right but does everything needed to win. One of the strongest moments in this issue is right after Bibi makes the save of her father and starts reflecting after. Giving readers an inside peak into what Bibi is thinking made for some powerful imagery. The pace doesn’t slow down after that as Bibi heads straight into Morrow’s way. Readers can’t help but root for her to win and that’s all based on how the writing has established the emerging hero.

Carlomagno and Iacono give the world of Bibi’s San Francisco a bold energy in this issue. Bibi’s emergence from the restaurant pops right off the page and gives that panel an iconic feel. Without spoiling, the place where Bibi goes after is presented exceptionally. The action is high impact when it happens while the emotional moments stand apart on their own. The final shot form this book is one that adds more excitement to the moment which already had a huge aura to it. Excellent work from all involved.

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

In case anyone is new to the story of the Black Ghost, the story centers around Lara Dominguez, a Creighton police reporter formerly from Miami. Dominguez becomes entranced with the adventures of The Black Ghost. As the story progresses in season one, Lara faces her own personal issues all the while, readers have front row seats to see Lara emerging as a hero that her city needs. It’s a great read that you should definitely check out and as previously stated, it’s out on print via Dark Horse Comics for those looking for a physical copy. That being said, Season 2 hasn’t shown any signs of a sophomore slump.

Season 2 starts out with Lara trying to find a balance out with her personal and heroic identities. Readers see Lara trying to deal with her issues head on by attending AA meetings. The struggle of balancing hero vs human life takes many forms as her reporter instincts draw her into investigating Creighton’s shady police commissioner Paul leGrande while the hero side of things takes a shot as a mysterious letter emerges that shakes Lara to her core. Factor in a new player in town with a deadly agenda and Lara’s life has never been tested like this. That player is names Harrow. Making an impact right out the gate, Harrow’s actions have now set Creighton on the edge of a massive crime war that Lara might not be able to stop. With a growing body count, Lara and Harrow met last issue with Lara being left for dead, only surviving because Harrow didn’t see her as any threat to her. This left Lara in a very bad state testing her will with everything she’s been working to improve.

This issue opens up with a sequence to where Lara meeting Rebekah, a Creighton Homicide office whom Lara has some history with. Once back to present time, Lara is confronted by Rebekah and Molly, her current love. They try to reason with Lara but Lara claims she isn’t drinking and is ok from the encounter with Harrow. So much so that Lara is continuing to infiltrate the club where she thinks holds the key to stopping the war once and for all. Once diving head first back into her mission and dodging the intervention, Lara finds herself undercover at an establishment names Stallions. Once sneaking into an office, Lara discovers a board with the city’s major players on it. Digging into the pictures, Lara starts to uncover the secret of Harrow and how she’s involved with this whole puzzle. This leads Lara into a path for more information but at what cost.

Readers won’t be ready for what unfolds next. Even after Lara starts seeing the pieces fit, does she even see the picture? With all of her investigation skills, is Lara ready for what lies ahead. The final moments of this book will answer that and leave some jaws dropped to what is set to happen next. The tension and stakes have never felt heavier on our hero.

Segura and Gallagher really amps up the drama within these pages. Lara's struggles with balancing both lives drives this story into some interesting directions. Seeing how she deals with the intervention by Rebekah and Molly was a very strong moment. The writing team present Lara as an imperfect person who continuously is trying to improve herself. Yet, with all her falls, she still gets back up trying to do the right thing. The slow burn approach to Harrow’s reveal was a great twist as well. Seeing Lara’s investigative skills come into play made for very noteworthy moments, none bigger than the conversation she has right after getting the lead on Harrow. Pacing gave these type of moments time to grow and connect with readers. The build to the last act was exceptional. It all lead to a great conclusion for this issue, with a great cliffhanger to build off of heading to the final issue of the season.

Not to be outdone, Kambadais hits on all the key story elements . Seeing first hand how Lara bounces back from the initial encounter with Harrow added a small piece of anticipation of where the story was heading. the big reveal also put into perspective Lara’s reaction to the reveal. At first glance, she is celebrating but once readers dig deeper into her reactions, Kambadais’s art sells the moments surprise element incredibly. Another noteworthy moment was the initial timepiece of when Lara meets Rebekah at the bar. With the additon of Ellie Wright’s coloring, it came across as a more detailed moment than one that misses the mark. Fortunately, readers don’t have that problem with this issue. Each fragment of the story escalates an intense visual feel to connect with the words being stated in those areas of the book.

Final point: the latest chapter of Lara Dominguez takes readers on a steady building powder keg of emotional moments. Segura, Gallagher, Kambadais and the rest of the creative team keep applying the pressure to Creighton’s defender and never lets up on seeing if she can remain strong enough to handle the challenge ahead. Season two of the Black Ghost rolls on into a must-witness finale. It’s excellent work that shouldn’t be missed at the Comixology store this week.
