In an absolute world, nothing is the same. Enemies have become friends. Evil has evolved. A Dark Knight has become even more darker. The new landscape of Gotham City has pushed Bruce Wayne to new extremes. Even with these changes, there still is a need for Justice and Vengeance.

ABSOLUTE BATMAN #3 by Scott Snyder, Nick Dragotta, Frank Martin, and Clayton Cowles dives further into the attempt to stop the Party Animals form running rough shot.

Snyder continues to push the creative envelope with this fantastic story. The dynamic change with Alfred goes up a few notches. It appears the grizzled agent is being schooled by the younger upstart. The encounter leans into the contrast in personalities. Its’ finish is vintage Batman. Few writers can walk this line quite like Snyder can.

Once in the flashback sequence, the friendship between Bruce and Selina takes center stage. It carries a familiar sense of caring as the pair tries sorting life out. Snyder delves into finding hope for Bruce through Selina’s eyes. The take on the rogues continues to be impressive. Seeing how they mesh in this new setup hits on many levels. The closing act provides a strong finish to an ever changing tale. As a reader, you can’t help but be impressed as to what is unfolding here.

Dragotta and Martin present the volital world of Gotham at full speed. The early escape from the GCPD carries a big feel to it. Pacing never falters as it pushes through to a stunning end. Cowles’ lettering drops a big exclamation point on this series of events. It provides a good balance from the flashback panels unfolding.

The innocence of Bruce and Selina comes into focus with Martin’s coloring scheme. Readers watch as the carefree attitude of Kyle takes over. Using “Zorro” as motivation, it is almost as Kyle is pushing Bruce to be Batman. Maybe this is something more hidden in the Absolute Universe? It’s quickly diverted when the rogues/friends show up. Seeing these characters in a jovial state is a fresh concept.

The art doesn’t escape the harsh reality of this new world. Back Mask’s “sparring session” hits all the key points of an MMA fight. Dragotta also slides in subtle panels to compliment the fighting. From the tap out to the dead stare, it leaves readers in horror of what happened. The only “win” persay is it makes the ending that more impactful. With a close-up image, a big shake-up went down that leaves uncertainty in its wake.

FINAL POINT: 9.6

A deal is struck that forever changes the fate of Gotham. Snyder magnificently sets the stage with his writing. Dragotta, Martin and Cowles lower the BOOM with the action while ramping up the drama. This series is making an instant impact that simply cannot be ignored.

Right from the start, this is a very layered story. In dealing with the New Gods, nothing is simple. The mission at hand is a complex one. Metron’s vision lead into a choice. Highfather sends Orion as his champion to Earth. Readers watch in awe as the plan slowly comes into focus. It also brings in a fan favorite couple synonymous with Kirby’s “Fourth World.”

Scott Free aka Mr. Miracle and Big Barda have always had a unique relationship with the New Gods. Ram V sets up a desperate proposition between Free and Orion. Readers watch in shock to the real mission. It’s met with a counter proposal that leads to more uncertainty. Pacing allows this to build nicely. The final act showcases what is causing all the concern. It lives up to the billing. Once the final page hits, there is no easy way out for what has begun.

Cagle handles the art duties after Fornes kicks things off. An incredible two page splash welcomes readers to Metron’s world. Once in New Genesis, Cagle and Segala get started with slowly revealing Highfather’s plan. The cold demeanor. Things begin to heat up once Orion smashes his way into the story.

The action panels are frantic reflecting the fight. Napolitano does it again with the lettering here. A simple “Orion” is magnified to indicate Highfather’s yell. Readers can see how the fight has been ended. This leads to the more calm conversation with Free. There is a wide range of emotions going on due to the subject. Once on pace for the final act, the reveal of the conflict is given a final full page debut. It leaves readers with questions as a new mystery has just begun.

The latest chapter in the “Fourth World” saga begins on a strong debut. Ram V’s writing mixes morality question into the world of divine beings. Cagle, Segala and Napolitano construct impressive imagery fitting for the layered story. There are many moving parts unfolding which is a huge win for the readers to become invested with.

In the age of the “All In” movement, creative takes are running wild. Gifting Lois the powers of Superman proves to unlock a part of her rarely seen. Williamson sets the stage innocently enough. Some “super friend” bonding with Supergirl and Lana Lang unlocks a deep rooted secret inside Lois. The result takes readers into unexpected directions.

At her core, Lois strives to do the right thing. Williamson walks the audience through the shocking change while allowing a new path. Lois deals with her initial change with wonder. This shifts quickly into growing confidence. Coming out of “Absolute Power”, there are challenges being a hero. Lois takes the ball and runs. It provides a few notable reveals. The script never stray from the theme. Lois is now a hero and that opens many new directions. The close ties up loose ends before a dramatic reveal sends forth a deadly challenge. How this new hero handles that pressure is anyone’s guess but readers will be locked in to watch.

Art duties are split three ways for this special. The credits page morphs into a two page splash. It’s an easy pick-up for readers as a new era begins. Events become more grounded with Lane back at the Planet. The art shows Lane’s cyphering of the new abilities. As the story progresses, pages bounce between current time and the past. It never looses pace and gives a needed break in plot when added.

The moments at Supercorp will be a fan favorite. Having Mercy watch as Lois smashes a table jump starts this aspect of the issue. With Superman crashing the scene, the images convey the hopeful future and uncertainty of the price of powers. This rings true when Lois joins the super family in stopping a threat. Lois’ range of emotions peak. Readers no longer see the reporter. They witness a hero emerging. It is validated with the parting shot. An epic two page depiction perfectly concludes this portion of the series. Once at the last page, a new player appears ready to greet our new hero. After seeing how this came to be, the future is wide open for the new version of Lois Lane to thrive in.

The evolution of Lois Lane comes into focus with an excellent one shot. Williamson’s writing brings out the hero within. Mixing in classic theme panels with an insight into Lois’s new world is pulled off with ease by the Art team. The DCU had best be ready for what’s next from the Woman of Steel!

GREEN LANTERN #18 (DC COMICS)

Oa stands in its’ darkest moment. Lord Premier Thaaros has evolved into something even more sinister. The only thing standing in his way is Hal Jordan. It’s the showdown everyone has been waiting for! Jordan and his allies versus Thaaros and his United Planets Lanterns. WINNER. TAKES. ALL!

Adams brings a thunderous conclusion to this epic saga. Right from the start, stakes feel monumental. Launching Jordan and company right into combat throws everything into chaos. It is a brief moment as Adams’ pacing casts the spotlight on a few notable Lanterns. Seeing Kyle Rayner and Kilowog back in the fray is a huge win. Star Sapphire’s role is brief but effective. This ultimately leads back into the main event of the chapter.

Pacing picks up as Jordan’s fearless instincts kick in. Readers watch as big action starts to unfold. It drives home the significance of the Lanterns. Being guardians of the cosmos, Jordan understands this more than anyone. It’s fitting he leads the last charge.

Adams writes in a moment that pops off the page. Jordan’s one-liner indicates the true power of the lanterns: Will. Readers watch as the Lantern Corps takes the conflict to a whole new stage. It delivers on a satisfying resolution. Before departing, Adams leaves the audience with a parting surprise. If there was ever a time to jump into Green Lantern, it is during this run.

Xermánico and Fajardo Jr. go BIG for the visuals for this conclusion. Thaaros starts events with a full page image. This is upstaged by a show-stopping two page spread. Seeing the Lanterns in action ushers in the final stand. Varron’s entry gets the full page treatment. Kilowog gets a very unique flashback page as well. This might be enough for some books, but not this one.

The art team puts together a series of two page splashes. Thaaros and Jordan’s brawl keeps gaining moment during these impressive images. Without question, these will be a crowd pleaser. The energy and feel of these pages will lock readers in to the stunning close. One light burns out but the final panel indicates Jordan and company are not done in fighting the injustices of space.

FINAL POINT: 9.4

In the last stand of OA, the Green Lanterns are not going down quietly. Adams pens a phenomenal close with the writing. Xermánico, Fajardo Jr. and Shapre present the stunning images fitting for such a devastating finale. This is one you won’t want to miss!

TRANSFORMERS #15 (SKYBOUND ENTERTAINMENT/IMAGE COMICS)

Johnson spares no details in showcasing the devastation of the Decepticons’ attacks. Soundwave comes across as the cold, remorseless leader he needs to be. Even when other Decepticons don’t buy in, he remains unfazed. It’s a complete contrast from Prime. As he struggles to hang on, Prime winds up grasping for anything. His conversation with Beachcomber is prime example. It is a new look to the noble leader. This comes into full focus when he sees the devastation caused in fighting.

The Autobots new neighbors are none too happy to see them. There is a sense of fear and anger filling the pages in this sequence. Readers watch Optimus have a small breakdown. This is nothing but a delight to Soundwave. It is short-lived as another major character makes his return (with his new look). Even with the Cybertron side-plot, nothing outshines the return of a former Decepticon. The closing page proves that He didn’t come alone. Readers watch as a heavy hitter is introduced which spells certain doom for Optimus and Earth’s inhabitants.

Corona is back in art duties after a two issue break. The destruction in Tacoma is brutal and intense. It builds the tempo for the remainder of the issue. Soundwave appears menacing while standing in the chaos. This carries through the brief Cybertron stop. Cliffjumper watching his fellow Autobots cross a line strikes a nerve with the audience.

It is overshadowed by the dramatic return of the disgraced Decepticon. Corona and Stern present the new player’s entrance in a near full page. It speaks volumes as the conflict picks up. This leads into a fantastic two page spread. The Decepticon civil war is in full swing! Just when readers think they’ve seen it all, the last page drops. A BIG x-factor emerges, spelling certain doom. Its a great way to close out events for now, but certainly not for long.

FINAL POINT: 8.8

With Soundwave inching closer to complete control, a new player enters the game. Johnson fills the writing with emotion and action. Corona returns with Stern and Wooten to provide the impactful images that are always more than meets the eye. This series continues to set a high bar that few other books can continuously reach.

STORM #3 (MARVEL COMICS)

Even at her weakest, Ororo Munroe is Marvel’s mightest mutant! She became poisoned while dealing with a power plant explosion. With the radiation killing her, Munroe searched for help. Brother Voodoo is her only chance for survival. Treatment will not be cheap. Is Storm ready to pay the price?

Ayodele throws a curve in healing the powerful mutant. Voodoo’s price for curing Storm is a surprising one. Loosing her powers for a week leads to a fun interaction with Voodoo. It is a more light hearted moment considering recent events. This leads Munroe to take advantage of the downtime by visiting old friends. Readers can’t help but smile as Munroe reunites with the Uncanny X-Men!

The family reunion lead to a pairing that is LONG OVERDUE to be reunited! Wolverine and Storm have had a previous Krakoa relationship that (imo) never got closure. Ayodele revisits this via a training session. Its path is abruptly ended by a surprise request. Hopefully this is rekindled later in this series. Once in the final act, readers witness another powerful figure would like to meet with Storm. It’s a showdown that will have fans buzzing about. Three issues in and Ayodele is hitting it out of the park with this series.

Wernick and Guimarães balance out the magical aspects of the opening with the X-reunion flawlessly. The credits page is an ominous one with the massive grave in full page. The mood shifts to a more heartwarming one with Rogue’s team. Seeing Rogue fly into the house only to see Storm is a great sequence. It leads to a mid panel shot of the team reunited. That is a long overdue X-moment fans will be elated about.

The training between Storm and Wolverine is presented with a unique style. Lanham’s lettering calling out the MMA moves is a great touch. It is quickly overshadowed by the romantic time between the pair. Once the final pages kick in, the art mirrors the emotional conflict Storm has. Finding and freezing love screams off the page. There’s little time for her to react. The last panel reveals who is her next conflict. It will be a tough wait till next issue.

FINAL POINT: 9.1

Within three issues, Ororo Munroe has been challenged on many fronts. In this latest issue, Ayodele tests her heart with superb writing. Wenrick, Guimarães and Lanham give readers an impressive X-reunion while setting the larger stage. This series needs to be on fans’ pull lists without question.

UNCANNY X-MEN #7 (MARVEL COMICS)

Jubilee, Calico and Beast are captured by Corina Ellis. Their former home is now a mutant prison. This doesn’t sit will with both X-Men teams. With tensions still lingering since Krakoa’s fall, there is divided loyalty. Cyclops and his group have staged a strike on Greymalkin. Rogue and her team were never going to sit by idly.

Can they work together long enough to free their friends? Readers won’t have to wait long to find out.

Simone brings the “Louisiana X-Men” into the fray with much delight. This chapter shows the contrast between squads. Rogue’s stance subsequently shuts down Cyclops. The way she presents her argument concerning teams hits very hard. It also solidifies what readers of UXM already know. THIS is THE X-Men team that is the definition of what Xavier’s dream truly is. Cyclops’ squad doesn’t carry that same type of energy. They are more of a hit squad that an actual team.

As the story progresses, both teams go into action. One surprising factor was the amount of time recapping X-Men #8. This works for new readers of Cyclops’ team. However, if you’ve read both books, it almost feels like a rewind mid-issue (with familiar images). Once events refocus back Rogue and company, events take off. The fight between teams delivers. The resolution sends the squads into an unlikely confrontation. It’s a strong landing spot taking the crossover into the next phase.

Marquez and Salazar split art duties for this chapter. The emotions pour with Rogue dressing down Cyclops’ orders. This leads to an incredible Marquez full page team shot leading them into battle. There are a few panels that do a mirroring recap of X-Men #8 moments. Once past this, the main event begins.

A mid panel shows the standoff between squads. it doesn’t take long to get things firing up. There are plenty of great action images as its’ X-Men vs. X-Men. It gets upstaged as Beast lets loose on some guards as he and the prisoners make a break. Events conclude with a final full page of what awaits both teams. The Raid is in full swing and not over by a longshot.

FINAL POINT: 8.8

The X-Men face off with their counterparts in a much anticipated showdown. Simone’s writing cements Rogue and company as the premier X team. The art brings the action and defiance of both groups. Judging by the last page, there’s no easy way out if both teams want to save their captured members.

BATMAN: DARK PATTERNS #1 (DC COMICS)

When fans think of Batman, many images pop into mind. Caped Crusader. Dark Knight. One description might stand out from the rest. “World’s Greatest Detective”. Seeing the evolution of his skills has always been exciting to watch.

A new series looks to showcase the early days with a unique format. “Dark Patterns” is a 12 issue series spotlighting four very unique and grounded cases. This is a whole new look at Batman as he starts to etch his legacy.

BATMAN: DARK PATTERNS #1 by Dan Watters, Hayden Sherman, Tríona Farrell and Frank Cvetkovic launches the series with “Case 01: We Are Wounded”.

Let’s take a closer look at how things begin.

Watters sets events in motion with a slow burn build. Walking readers through the initial start features a cold Gotham City. The writing builds off the unforgiving nature of Batman’s home. This ultimately leads into the latest victim of a a serial killer. Watters lays out the gruesome killing while giving Batman just enough clues to start investigating.

As the pace picks up, Watters adds more twists into the plot. Readers will appreciate the Alfred injections into the chapter. It is a factor sorely missed in current stories. Their conversation is classic, leading Batman into the final act. Once the killer is revealed, it spirals the case into a whole new direction. The closing page offers up a crack in the case, but leaves with much to ponder in the meantime.

Sherman and Farrell craft a haunting feel for the streets of Gotham. The opening pages are a mix of near full images tagged with small panels. Readers feel a sense of uncertainty as Batman suits up. This leads to a fantastic credits page. The full image of the Bat signal in the sky kicks off the mystery in style.

Panel structure also keys in on the distorted view of events. The split full page reveals the victim and Batman with a dramatic flair. There is no shortage of tension as pages unfold. Nothing compares to the killer’s reveal. The near full page image pops off the page. It is not one for the squeamish. Events finally start slowing down at the final page. With a simple panel, much is revealed and questioned heading into the next issue.

A horrific case welcomes readers into an exciting chapter of Batman’s past. Watters keeps readers walking the tightrope with the writing. Sherman, Farrell and Cvetkovic construct a terrifying glimpse though an inexperienced Dark Knight’s eyes. This case will have readers talking at the LCS and beyond.

The times. They are a ‘changing. One of DC’s most legendary teams has maintained its’ ethics throughout the decades. When a new threat comes across their path, one member is pushing to adapt their ways. Will the youth of the team outshine the founders? Only one way to find out!

Lemire presents a classic challenge for the Society while foreshadowing a challenging future. The mission starts out as traditional as one might think. Note: this is never a bad thing. As the Injustice Society keeps the JSA at bay, the more brooding build starts. Obsidian’s push for a proactive stance goes against the normal JSA ethic. Lemire sets it up quietly for a larger role later.

Once the attack strikes the headquarters, pacing builds very quickly. Readers watch as the good guys are on their heels. A youthful panic leads into a separation of squads. Lemire balances out the veteran guard wisdom with the youthful fight very evenly. Prime example of this is Wildcat reassuring the young Dr. Fate to keep pushing. It leads into a shocking close. Events have been spiraling but where the final image lands proves to be dire for the Society’s chances to survive.

Olortegui and Guerrero deliver on big action when the fight breaks down. The initial attack is presented with a two-page splash. It builds up the puzzling scenario that is unfolding. Once the Injustice Society reveals itself, pages kick into high gear. Another two page spread ushers in the bad guys for the conflict.

Readers watch as the action is fast paced and flying. There’s great matchups before eventually dividing to where issue #1 began. Once things return to “the present” Tower of Fate, the art focuses on the reactions of the losing battle. This caps off with back to back full page images that leave no doubt time is not on the Society’s side for victory.

FINAL POINT: 8.5

The look back at the current JSA conflict provides readers with a vintage superhero sotry. Lemire brings out the JSA’s timeless strengths as characters with the writing. Olortegui, Guerrero and Wands construct a throwdown that is sure to please new and seasoned readers alike. Judging by the close, there may be no choice but to adapt or fade away.

Dastmalchian brings Vincent Velcro front and center for this issue. The dive into the backstory spotlights the vampire’s ill fated rescue attempt. His conversation with Dr. West reflects his loss and gives some clarity on to why he’s willing to work with Dr. West. Once events shift gears, the chapter heads into the combustible personalities put together for the mission at hand.

There is a certain element of “honor amongst theives” that carries in this series. Dr. West’s rally cry strikes where it needs to. Her hand is forced as Wanda (Shrieve) stumbles across a dead monster morgue in the base. Ultimately, the talk is swayed with orders of action. The latter portion of the book give time to the larger DCU stars involved, but events feel a touch rushed heading into the close. Once at the conclusion, the final page lands on a solid cliffhanger. It does its’ job leaving readers wanting more but could have been more impactful on its’ execution.

Stegman and the team welcome readers into Beast’s capture with a haunting full page. This is countered with Cyclops’ building rage to events. The emotion being shown really stands out. Considering how this group was right after Krakoa, this indicates everyone is buying in to Rogue’s dream (no longer Xavier’s).

As for the rest of the book, it splits between the Outliers at school and the X-Men adjusting to their “new normal”. Simone juggles around the characters very well with giving each ample time for their stories. This leads into some unique directions. It also solidly lays the groundwork for the upcoming crossover. All the side plots wind up coming back together with the close. Knowing what lies ahead, there’s much to be excited about.

Garrón steps in for art duties (with Wilson on colors) and delivers on setting the dramatic stage. The opening pages dive into Calico’s backstory. It indicates her optimism dwindling with her mama manipulating events. This leads to her abrupt standoff with Wolverine. A full page image ushers in a shocking attack. This ultimately gets subdued by Gambit. His reactions set a tone for the hope this new group has.

Once the action starts rolling, the panels flow with a quick pace. There is a fair balance of teenage angst and guarded emotion in dealing with the Outliers. This takes readers into some very familiar scenarios. It also amplifies the Jubilee portion as the attack on mutants is wide-spread in this chapter. Waid picks an unlikely lead for this opening chapter. Capitalizing on the expanded roster, featuring the naive Air Raid reflects the readers view. The story carries a massive weight as the League is reformed into a version never seen. With nearly every DC hero on roster, the possibilities are endless. Seeing Flash narrate the changes to new readers is a solid touch before jumping head first into the conflict.

Once the team rolls out, the writing takes the into a surprising direction. Instead of dealing with the dramatic onslaught at hand, the focus goes to a wounded soldier. Readers watch as the team powers together to save one life. As big as the threat is, simplifying it to a heroic act is what the League is all about. This leads into a great closing act. Waid leaves the audience with much to process including a very unforeseen cliffhanger ending. If this is any indication, the league is back in a BIG way!

To capture the epic level of events, few can outshine Dan Mora. Along with Bonvillain on colors, the League mission feels larger than life. With the opening Full & two page splashes, things start off on a great note. It transitions into tagging along with Air Raid. The humorous panels quickly fade as the team jumps into the issue at hand.

The art carries a tense feel as the JL is showcasing their skills. Panels feel bold as the heroes scramble to gain control of the situation. This rises up a few notches when attempting to save the wounded soldier. Seeing Star Sapphire and Flash race against the odds will have readers franticly waiting for the outcome. This rolls into the final pages. The closing pages pull off a fantastic swerve dousing the happy win for something more devious on the way.

Without question, DC’s premier superhero team returns to the forefront in a monster way. Waid’s writing escalates the drama while bringing out the best of the huge roster. When it stops, its an intense moment that leads into darker territory.

Once things move back to present time, the state of the Gardens comes into focus. Zerc’s actions are cold and unforgiving as he nears the finish line. His breaking of Loo sends her into a shocking direction. This allows the writing to take the story to its’ ultimate ending. With events in motion, Zerc unveils his overall scheme. This leads to an uncertain sense as the final act ushers in the final challenge for the Garden and its inhabitants.

Weston and Stewart peel back the layers of Loo’s broken soul with this chapter. The flashback sequences carry the grey coloring reflecting her sorrow. Loo’s reactions range from shock to sadness. Readers watch as she tries to comprehend what her actions led to. Its’ the strongest portion of the story. The art handles the moment tastefully while conveying the ramifications in an extreme manner.

The rest of the sotry deals with Zerc’s manipulations. His dealing of “loose ends” is given a near full page. Nothing is held back on the levels in which Zerc has gone. His address to the residents is blunt and filled with his bravado. Zerc’s facial expressions vary, leading the readers into his closing play. Even with Loo’s new “home” panels, the parting image seals the deal as the end is quickly approaching for the gardens.

Loo’s tragic background comes to the forefront as the Gardens brace for impact. The writing delivers an emotional charged open that will hit the audience and not let go. Weston and Stewart orchestrate the strong visuals to support Loo’s troubled past. With one issue left, anything (and I mean ANYTHING) can happen at the Gardens now!

Taline knows what’s coming and Essex isn’t ready.

This causes a shift in direction for the trio of Cloaks. The writing brings out the best and worst opinions of Essex as she tries being proactive. Her conversation with Iona is tense and hostile in certain aspects. It’s the guilt of Essex’s actions that start breaking her from the inside. This bridges to a surprise closing. The revelation in the parting panel leaves more mystery as the case slips further away from the Cloaks.

McClaren kicks off the visuals with a strong opening at the supermax prison. The wide panel image of Pax asking for Taline’s cell slows down the hectic surroundings. What follows next is a meeting that carries tensions in each panel. The view perspective through the window is a great touch to mix things up.

Essex’s journey leads her into two different paths. The enjoyment of helping Joya is a much needed break. Essex’s joyful reaction is short lived. Her conversation with Iona is less than friendly. It carries the pain caused from her previous actions. The tale of two Essexs’ lets readers know all is not forgiven as she tries helping to solve the case. It ultimately leads into the final act. With the closing panel, another clue is dropped that adds more complexity onto an ever growing case.

The partnership with Hardware comes off as uneasy but workable for a greater purpose. The writing highlights Icon’s leaving to both differently. It also conveys Hardware trying to find his own purpose as a new fugitive.

Once events shift to the Shadow Cabinet, the story starts picking up speed. Both Anansi and Iron Butterfly get big entrances as their conflict goes forward. It leads to a unique closing act. The offer thrown down to Rocket is a thought-provoking one. Considering what she’s dealt with concerning Icon leaving, it leaves readers guessing for a cliffhanger ending. It’s not the only unended point to the sotry, but perfect for the beginning chapter.

Banks and Ilhan split art duties with Soyomayor handling the coloring. The opening pages make a big impact with Alva’s power play. Her manic smile connects the uncertainty of what lies ahead. BATMAN/SUPERMAN: WORLD’S FINEST #33 by Mark Waid, Adrián Gutiérrez, Matt Herms and Steve Wands (DC Comics)

Eclipso’s endgame proves to be quite the challenge for both teams. Waid sets the stage by channeling the greatest weakness between both teams. The writing leans into the insecurities of the legacy heroes. It offers a very realistic theme on top of the conflict. The result challenges the younger JL. This works to further cement Eclipso’s control until the overconfidence sits in.

With Superman in peril, Batman steps up to take over the situation. Batman shows concern (in his own manner) which pushes the heroes where they need to go to win. He isn’t alone as another hero crashes the party. The conflict builds perfectly to a break. Its fallout felt quick but all points needed were covered. It completes a great story which is par for the course with this series.

Gutiérrez and Herms elevate Eclipso to new heights with the art. The menacing half page panel kicks off his final play against the Greenland army. It’s countered by a near full page image of Batman and Robin running into action. Once this is unveiled, the action sequences come in fast and furious. This plays well to establish the Eclipso driven feelings between the JSA and their legacy counterparts.

The JSA-Eclipso six panel page cements that point home. It gets complimented by a powerful hero entering the final round. The art team sets the stage behind a Green Lantern fight. From here, pacing escalates events into the powerful close. A full page explosion brings the house down as the heroes attempt to close out the fight. Wands’ lettering took that moment to a whole new level. The aftermath leads to a memorable final image. It is one that will stick with readers as a reminder of how great these heroes are. Excellent work.

Eclipso’s endgame comes into focus with a spectacular closing chapter. Waid maxes out the heroic strengths at play with the writing. Gutiérrez, Herms and Wands craft a suspenseful showdown featuring two legendary teams. What more could you want from a series that lives up to the billing of “World’s Finest”
