Readers watch as the showdown boils down to the leaders.

Rogue and Cyclops have varying thoughts of how this mission should go. Rogue aligns more with the original dream. Cyclops sways to a more “Magneto” approach. This throws more conflict into an already built story. The result is decided by a familiar face. One name in mutantkind is extremely polarizing these days. The writing takes into count the legacy said character has left. In its result, the choice is made on how to move forward. It may not be a popular call but could be the one to save all.

Art duties are split between Stegman and Vincentini. The latter leads off the book with a strong two page action splash. Pacing moves swiftly through both teams. Everyone gets a fair share of page time before the conclusion. It wraps up with a full page image of the teams ready for their next moves.

As Stegman and Mayer take over, the story centers around the leaders. Each reaction radiates more anger. The past of Krokoa has never left either team. This mission re-opened old wounds. The art builds up the rage nicely until the closing moves. There’s another surprise on deck which debuts via two page image. It leads into a conclusion most fans were awaiting. Now the questions lead to: what happens next?

Loeb puts the Boy Wonder front and center for this issue. Batman is wounded and barely escapes the Falcone mansion. Crashing (literally) into the Batcave, Alfred must attempt surgery. The scenario is all too familiar to Grayson. Seeing his parents die in front of him bares an eerie resemblance here. Loeb plays into the connection with the narration. This sparks Robin to pick up the case, whether he’s ready or not.

The journey takes him to a very recognizable place. Inside the Arkham walls, Grayson attempts to fill the shoes of Batman, Readers watch as he struggles but remains vigilant. This overshadows the brutality of Solomon Grundy’s story portion. The larger investment is with Grayson grasping for straws to help. His desperation leads him to one person for help. It is only fitting of who it is. The resolution is perfect Batman storytelling. Once concluded, the final pages set the stage for an inevitable showdown. There is much to enjoy with the writing here.

Chiang (Paper Girls, Human Target) steps in for art duties. The two page splash of Batman crashing into the Cave sends a loud message. It starts this chapter off with a sense of danger. Mixing in the Graysons’ accident via panels adds fuel to that fire. Moving to a nine-panel page illustrates how Grayson is reacting. It works to carry him to his next portion of the story.

Once at Arkham, the half page with the Calendar Man shows his determination for answers. It leads to a confrontation that is very fitting. The result is a “family portrait” for the ages. Chiang and Stewart also craft a heartfelt Alfred moment to conclude this section. It is in difference to Grundy’s rage as he pursues a suspect in the Gotham PD. Those panels add more intrigue before the close. Once there, a full page image of a popular Rogue seals this chapter up for its next round.

The latest “Halloween” chapter casts the spotlight on a near death in the family. Loeb’s writing shows Dick Grayson treading through the chaotic Gotham landscape. Chiang (along with Stewart and Starkings) builds up the emotional ware of a dying Batman on his most loyal supporters. This series continues to set a high bar for storytelling.

Grampá goes all in for this pen-ultimate chapter. Dr. Geist is a very disturbing villain. The writing shows his manipulations playing out to his delight. Batman’s struggles with the truth hit as he is disposed off. Their initial confrontation ends with a surprise. It works to establishes Wayne’s journey in the latter half of the book. For thinking he is in complete control, Grampá’s script takes that out of Batman’s hands.

The supporting cast also has key moments to shine as well. Gordon’s pairing proves to be more than he can handle. Readers watch as multiple secrets come to light. It is interesting to guess if this “partner” is revealed to be a Bat ally. Considering how other Bat-verse characters have appeared, it is’ out of the realm of thought. None may be creepier than The Joker. Hos introduction is terrifying. Seeing the connection with Crytoon only spells more chaos in Gotham. Factor in the closing pages and Batman won’t be enough. The final page sets the stage for a deadly finale.

Grampá’s art paired with Lopes coloring is simply stunning. Dr. Geist’s confrontation carries a heavy intensity. The action is unforgiving. Readers watch as the detailed panels move events right along to another big debut. Joker’s half panel introduction sends shivers down readers spines. Seeing Crytoon and him go on their killing spree is vicious. It’s fitting the done for a darker Gotham in which this Bat seeks to fly in.

The dual page spread of Gordon’s “enlightenment” is gorgeous to watch. It is so well detailed and structured. Secrets are exposed with the tone of fear in Gordon’s voice. This is a big moment in an issue that never slows down. Heading into the final act, Wounder’s full page attack leaves nothing back. It pops off the page in a brutal way. This perfectly sets up the panels to close out. Knowing what darkness is unleashed, expect all Hell to break loose in the finale.

Bruce Wayne’s journey into darkness takes another disturbing leap with this chapter. Grampá presents an innovated look at the classic rogues with the writing. Seeing Batman embracing his inner rage proves to be a scary but needed weapon in his fight for justice. The artwork is stunning with its ferociousness and detail. This is a very intense read that lights a very explosive march to its’ finale.

The one thing about Rogue Sun is that readers can always expect a great finish to their arcs. This issue is no exception. As Parrott and Cotton kick things off, the focus is on a young Divinity and Dottie. The tension is high as Dottie makes a deal that forever alters her young niece. It carries an uneasy weight that returns in present time. Knowing there is heavy consequences, Divinity’s actions look to carry over throughout the world Dottie is now reluctantly connected with.

As for the aviary, the writing sets events off with a bang. A traitor waited in the wings. Aviness unleashes the Philistine. Readers watch in shock as the attack commences. Dylan crashes the party for the save. In this moment, we find out that he might be ready for the next step. ‘

Pacing mounts the action with each strike. Dylan is out-classed in his initial round. Even with his estranged dad Marcus in his ear, Dylan is challenged to survive. With a passing action, the comeback starts. It will thrill fans as Dylan grows in his role right before our eyes. The conclusion is a very strong one. Events are tied up plus a new path is given to Dylan.

Normally this would be enough, but as previously stated: Rogue Sun arcs don’t just “end.” The closing act provides a superb twist that will shake up the foundation yet again for the world of Dylan Siegel. Another excellent performance with the writing.

Abel and Marques bring out the fear and complexity of the Aviary’s coup. The set-up with Aviness and the Philistine slides into the scene gracefully. It instantly hits readers directly. The moment compliments the debut of Rogue Sun into the final battle. Fans watch as the full page image sparks the explosive confrontation.

There’s no shortage of action taking place. The battle is brutal. The stakes rise when Dylan debuts a new item to help him win. Panels are never short of emotion either. From Divinity and Dotty’s portion to the fallout of the coup, each page hits their marks. Even when closing this portion, a full page concludes events for the parties involved. The art team leave the conclusion for the shocking surprise. A final image floods the page and spells certain doom for Dylan. It will be a long wait for #25.

The latest challenges in Dylan Siegel’s life nail the landing in this arc finale. Parrott and Cotton continue to lock readers in with their superb script. Abel, Marques and Carey craft the dramatic final rounds with great art. Rogue Sun is about as consistent as it gets for quality storytelling.

The encounter with Fyskov (Fisk) is brash and delves into giving Creed a purpose. What follows next is Vintage Sabretooth. Dead bodies and sheer violence is the trail left behind. King throws two conflicts at readers for this series. Lance has the current bout with Shiva along with the relationship with her mother. The first has provided a hard hitting affair. Readers watch as Lance endures much punishment from someone outclassing her. One thing Lance utilizes is her drive not to quit. The writing allows this to grow and is reinforced by the addition conflict.

Lance’s relationship with her mother comes into the forefront. Taking a trip back in time, the elder Canary leads her young daughter on a new path. King never shies away from the dangers of being a vigilante. Seeing young Dinah watch her mother deal with a gunshot wound is impactful. When the child puts on her mother’s wig, Readers know that the “tough love” has created a heroine in training. This is reflected in the current time.

King’s writing strength has always been (imo) the way he tackles personal relationships. The training regime Dinah is put through is unforgiving. It also mirrors the role reversals of the pair. Dinah has relied on her for training. She now must be the catalyst for her mother’s health. This ultimately comes full circle in the final page. Both are damaged from what’s happening but both are ready to fight. There’s no way after the last panel readers can’t get behind that notion.

Sook and Stewart open up the issue with excellent staged panels of Dinah getting corner advice. This mirrors what her mother pushed on her for training. It prepares readers for the intense in-ring combat. Shiva’s opening attack is a half panel brutal shot which launches the issue forward. There’s a great full page image of a temporary victory that compliments the great action as well.

The bout does step aside for the flashback moments. Seeing Dinah Drake in a full page costume image will be a big hit. Lance’s reaction travels from happy to sad as things progress. It is capitalized by the young child eating a TV dinner and watching the news. The full page shot (with great detail) takes readers on a rollercoaster of emotions. Lance watching her mother deal with the gunshot sparks an unexpected response. The full page image of Dinah with the wig speaks loudly. It takes a new direction in the present. The closing panel hits like an overhand right, sending events into the 3rd round.

The fight of Dinah Lance’s life takes another turn as the rounds add up. King’s writing digs into Dinah’s soul with a deep dive into her past. Sook, Stewart and Cowles don’t leave it in the judges’ hands with the excellent art. The series continues to impress with no signs of tapping out soon.

Once on the scene, the case becomes more complex. With a possible clue found, readers think there’s a break. It gets pushed onto the back burner with another matter at hand.

Scarlett’s connection with Bruce takes center stage. Taylor writes her character with much mystery. It keeps the audience guessing to what she is really about. As Batman furthers his investigation, it leads him into a blurred path. Taylor find a way to bring some emotion out of the stoic knight. The results lead into a desperate search for truth. Knowing their connection, readers watch as the final pages throw a new wrinkle into play. It leaves Batman in a state rarely seen. How this goes now is anyone’s guess.

Janin unleashes the dynamic duo onto the case with style. The full page image flies them into the uneasy scene. Their moods swing to anger when their search is interrupted. Readers watch as the facial reactions grow darker before the fists fly. The fight concludes with an equally impressive half panel.

From here, Bruce Wayne takes center stage. Following his fascination with Scarlett’s offer, he’s taken the plunge. The questioning that follows throws Scarlett off. It can be easily seen that she is covering something up. The post restaurant sequences prove more that meets the eye. Janin throws in a surprise fight scene. This leads to Bruce losing himself to the moment. Rarely do readers see Batman act “human”. This steamrolls into the close. With a strong final panel, the case is turned upside down. Where everything falls is sure to keep fans guessing till next issue.

The high price of extending youth takes another toll on Bruce Wayne. Taylor’s writing pushes the Dark Knight into a question of fact vs. heart. Through the chaos of being heroes, Clark and Lois strive to find time for each other. Williamson sets the stage with an intimate view of the couple’s relationship. The dialogue captures the pair letting go of their heroic duties. It comes across as loving and enjoyable. This provides a much welcomed break from current events. Even the one page interludes hit their marks. Only until Doomsday comes up in conversation does the mood greatly change.

Clark’s struggles with Doomsday’s ultimatum. Knowing what the stakes are, readers watch his worry. It’s countered by Lois’ confidence. The only negative about this is that its’ short lived. The story throws in a fun side plot before the last act. From a Happy ending, the pair is brought into more trouble. Knowing where the parting image leads, this may require some “super” luck to survive what just arrived.

Mora and Sanchez kick off “date night” with an amazing two page splash. Seeing the couple radiate their happiness is a welcomed sight. This leads into a trip around the DCU. The injection of the one-page interludes make for easy transitions. Once things come back to the fear of Doomsday, this issue takes off.

The art team locks in on Superman’s worry. Seeing the reaction of weighing the stakes leans into the audience. Lois’ reaction reinforces the danger. After a brief detour, the parting stop happens in Smallville. Capturing the small town in Winter, readers watch the joy brewing for the happy ending. It’s quickly thwarted in the closing pages. A bold two page image ushers in a new threat. As the final panel hits, it leaves no question the happy moments are fleeting with an uncertain future.

Lois and Clark break away for some time alone but their superhero day jobs can’t leave them. Williamson pens an enjoyable tale of a future imperfect. Ewing makes Mason’s return chapter quite the unpredictable read. The opening intro page adds a huge throwback touch to this issue. Ewing lays out the key players and alludes to what lies ahead. Mister 3 proves to be a unique rogue. The altercation with Mason speeds events to a solid pace. Readers watch action unfolds or in this case, break down leaving the hero on the defensive.

From here, the story goes into a few directions. One of which is bringing in an old friend into the mix. Ewing constructs the awkwardness while escalating the fight. At this stage, the conflict reaches a fun ending point. This brings together most loose ends. It also leaves readers with one last revelation before departing. All in all, Rex Mason’s life continues to be a roller coaster ride of emotions.

Lieber and Loughridge keep a very vintage feel to this book. The information page keeps in this theme. New readers can appreciate this style. This rolls unto a two page image of Ra-Man. It helps building some hype. The story spins back into present time with the start of conflict. The use of the monitor for Metamorpho’s backstory is a nice touch. This launches Mason into the foray with some style.

The fight is textbook superhero. Mister 3 pulls no punches while the fight is brought into view. Lieber’s detail in the “melting face” steals panels. Readers watch as Mason and his “partner” come after Mister 3 with a final shot. The panels are frantic with much action filling them up. It leads into a near full image conclusion. The fallout ties up loose ends before leaving with a vintage image. Structuring around the full image with the classic comic style leaves events on solid ground. There is much to enjoy here.

Rex Mason is back with a flare and stye all his own. Ewing’s writing crafts the unique environment with a throwback style. Lieber, Loughridge and Delgado bring out the best and quirkiness of Mason’s heroics with the art. This one packs quite a punch!

Ace and Krypto (The Super Pets) lead the way to solving the mystery.

Waid crafts a very enjoyable story. The dynamic between Batgirl and Olsen clashes well enough. It gives readers an awkward sense as they start investigating. Once in the scene of the crime, events speed forward. The writing allows the best superhero themes to shine. Readers watch as the true heroes step in to save the day. Its’ resolution is classic. Even without its’ major players, this series continues to set the benchmark for superhero tales.

Galán steps in for art duties for this stand alone. The conflict with Galtar begins with a split full page. It features the standoff before diving into battle. Once the time jump happens, coloring makes the scenes more grim. It fits the world of Gotham City very well.

This is contrasted well with the brighter colors of Metropolis and Olsens’ world. Pacing pushes events very quickly. It builds toward a surprise reveal inside Arkham asylum. The full page image kicks off the closing conflict. It’s interrupted by an excellent full page welcome by some “super friends”. This leads to some great action panels before wrapping events up. The crime seems open and shut but Montoya can’t close it just yet.

This leads into a dramatic showdown with Batwoman. Past feelings begin to resurface. It becomes the driver for this issue. Can Montoya separate personal opinion from fact? Readers see a small glimpse before the true threat appears. This leads into a wild action sequence. In its’ wake is a full circle return between the former lovers. Tension remain high even in somewhat victory. judging by the final page, maybe things are not so cut and dry after all.

Tormey and Fajardo Jr. welcome readers into this chapter with a full page image of how bad things are. This moves into Montoya’s investigation. The art captures the struggles seeing one of their own in a bad light. This leads to the confrontation brewing for this issue. Montoya and Batwoman’s talk pours with emotion. This gets interrupted with a certain Super villain crashing the scene.

For this issue, the team is split off with the Trinity. This issue is heavily focused on Superman and Ace temaing up. The writing gives them a very classic feel as the heroes go in search of the time splits caused by Darkseid. Once in full swing, the story delves into the insecurities and emotions of Ace. It ultimately foreshadows more events in the works. The stage is also set for a conspiracy feel with a shocking ending. In dealing with the unknown, always expect the unexpected. That is an easy way to describe this issue.

Izaakse and Fajardo Jr. give readers a speedy recap of how the Challengers landed here. A near full page image introduces the team to new readers. While not fully in-depth, it hits its’ key points. There is an impressive two page splash for their debriefing. This leads into the pairing up for this issue.

Their encounter is very tense. Static is in a state of anger. Illidge sets the stage with his reaction to past events. It leaves the readers with a sense of doubt as to what’s next. Once the story flips to Sanction vs. Syndicate, the issue speeds through to the final act. There’s plenty of action to tide over the audience. Once at the final page, the chapter ends on a very solid note with a great cliffhanger conclusion.

The art showcases the Cabinet’s vision of tomorrow with much danger. Rocket’s “future” is filled with grim images. The half page panel shows the consequences of her actions. It matches her defiance in their offer. Static’s appearance carries a justified angry tone to it. Readers clearly know this isn’t the same old Virgil Hawkins they have been accustomed to.

Where the art excells with is the fight between Sanction vs. Syndicate. There is non stop action unfolding. It gives the match-up a big time feel as the stakes truly are raised. Since the first issue, this series has had a unique charm to its’ writing. It stands on its own. This is shown in the origins of the Gardens. The writers bring out the desperation of losing the center with divine fate. Seeing how Grace evolves into the being she is today is quite the twist. It launches the center into a new direction before crashing into the present.

Once the Cult is running rough shot on the gardens, the dire feel grows. Grace makes a play that changes everything. Seeing the notable head nurse appear “human” in action is a win for the readers. This speeds events into the long awaited showdown. Pacing pushes the story into more surprises.

The closing arc ties up loose ends with ease. At its’ core, this has been Loo’s journey. It only makes sense to confront herself by addressing her past. Seeing who becomes her strength hits on a strong note. Events become a touch predictable here. It’s not a bad thing by any stretch. This story has pushed limits. Taking the close to a more “traditional” sense is a success here. The closing page leaves readers with a satisfying finish for now…but forever? I would hope not.

Weston and Stewart ensnare Grace’s frustration in losing the center. The pain is written all over her face. The team handles her transformation in a great manner. Using bright colors off-sets the dreary times. Running things back 30 years prior helps to translate where events lie for the close.

Coloring also shines when Loo is introduced this issue. Seeing the gas released breaks the dark tones apart. It takes away from the Cult’s final ritual. The art never lets the puzzling feel divert from the events playing out. This especially comes into light when Loo uses her power. The scenes reflect the big change unfolding. It sends the story into its “happy ending phase”. Once the final page debuts, it sends readers off with something that has been a staple within these pages: Hope.

FINAL POINT: 9.2

Will the Gardens survive the full-on onslaught from the cult? Way and Simon present a tale of internal strength shining through with the writing. Weston, Stewart and Piekos walk the line between enigmatic and excitement with their art. This series has been an experience all its’ own and hopefully closing time on the Gardens is very far away.

In their script, the writers bring forth a challenge to the ultimate soldier. Tying in the family past makes a quick connection with the reader. It lends itself to cover up the real reasons behind the meeting of minds.

Kai is not one to trust. He has just been burned by Xander and Zynitec. Readers watch as a tense alliance is formed. It is not one of want, but need. Kai is in a new body he knows nothing about. Zon holds the cards into unlocking its’ true potential. Readers watch how this starts to unfold in the closing act. Xander continues to pull strings on his own agenda. Seeing who’s recruited now proves why Kai plays it smart to continue with Zon. It leads to a solid landing point which opens up another door on a growing saga.

Smallman and Beaudoin present Kai’s new body in a half panel. The emotion and rage speak loudly on this page. Zon’s assistant Alvarez makes a big entrance with a near full page shot. It is an easy tell to the readers how this trio is not all in on events. The flashback sequence pops off the pages. It tries connecting Zon to the audience by justifying his motives.

It is contrast to Xander’s manipulations. After his deceptive talk with Lyra, events move to a new area. Readers watch as his newest partner crashes the scene in a bold way. The art holds nothing back as she wipes out her own crew! They keep up the intensity with Kai in the closing act. The fight with the creature caps off a violent showdown. It indicates how far Kai has now come and where he is heading, ready or not.

Kai’s new life doesn’t come without consequences. The writing walks him into an unlikely direction. Smallman and Beaudoin elevate the stakes for both Kai and Xander with spectacular art. Even in its’ early stages, “Arcbound” wastes no time in bringing intense action and an even paced story. Readers will have much to enjoy with this new series.

This leads into a furious entrance by a Joe fueled on rage: Duke. It leads into a frantic resolution. Readers watch along with Cobra as their mission is audibled at the last second.

Once the dust settles, the writing throws a wild card into the mix. Risk’s first impressions do not go over well with the team. Losing a beloved member for a brash upstart is instant fireworks. The writing brings out the best of characters at the worst possible time. Once the final pages start, it presents a tense feel. This carries to the incredible cliffhanger ending. Readers can’t help but to be locked and loaded for where things head to next.

Reilly and Bellaire amp up the visual impact throughout the story. A full page image fires Duke into the closing stand. Readers watch as the franchise Joe throws himself right into the fight. The no-quit attitude shines on each panel. This grows until the show-stopping fight ending. From a full page escape to Duke’s deep stare, there’s much to ponder.

The art team continues its dive on the emotional reflection. Duke’s instant anger towards Risk pops off pages. it’s matched by the egotistical charisma of the latest team member. Just as tempers flare, the art detours to the current victors. As the foreshadowing of what next starts, the closing page delivers big. It’s a superb way to leave things for now, but definitely not for long.

ABSOLUTE BATMAN #3 (DC COMICS)

In an absolute world, nothing is the same. Enemies have become friends. Evil has evolved. A Dark Knight has become even more darker. The new landscape of Gotham City has pushed Bruce Wayne to new extremes. Even with these changes, there still is a need for Justice and Vengeance.

ABSOLUTE BATMAN #3 by Scott Snyder, Nick Dragotta, Frank Martin, and Clayton Cowles dives further into the attempt to stop the Party Animals form running rough shot.

Snyder continues to push the creative envelope with this fantastic story. The dynamic change with Alfred goes up a few notches. It appears the grizzled agent is being schooled by the younger upstart. The encounter leans into the contrast in personalities. Its’ finish is vintage Batman. Few writers can walk this line quite like Snyder can.

Once in the flashback sequence, the friendship between Bruce and Selina takes center stage. It carries a familiar sense of caring as the pair tries sorting life out. Snyder delves into finding hope for Bruce through Selina’s eyes. The take on the rogues continues to be impressive. Seeing how they mesh in this new setup hits on many levels. The closing act provides a strong finish to an ever changing tale. As a reader, you can’t help but be impressed as to what is unfolding here.

Dragotta and Martin present the volital world of Gotham at full speed. The early escape from the GCPD carries a big feel to it. Pacing never falters as it pushes through to a stunning end. Cowles’ lettering drops a big exclamation point on this series of events. It provides a good balance from the flashback panels unfolding.

The innocence of Bruce and Selina comes into focus with Martin’s coloring scheme. Readers watch as the carefree attitude of Kyle takes over. Using “Zorro” as motivation, it is almost as Kyle is pushing Bruce to be Batman. Maybe this is something more hidden in the Absolute Universe? It’s quickly diverted when the rogues/friends show up. Seeing these characters in a jovial state is a fresh concept.

The art doesn’t escape the harsh reality of this new world. Back Mask’s “sparring session” hits all the key points of an MMA fight. Dragotta also slides in subtle panels to compliment the fighting. From the tap out to the dead stare, it leaves readers in horror of what happened. The only “win” persay is it makes the ending that more impactful. With a close-up image, a big shake-up went down that leaves uncertainty in its wake.

FINAL POINT: 9.6

A deal is struck that forever changes the fate of Gotham. Snyder magnificently sets the stage with his writing. Dragotta, Martin and Cowles lower the BOOM with the action while ramping up the drama. This series is making an instant impact that simply cannot be ignored.

Right from the start, this is a very layered story. In dealing with the New Gods, nothing is simple. The mission at hand is a complex one. Metron’s vision lead into a choice. Highfather sends Orion as his champion to Earth. Readers watch in awe as the plan slowly comes into focus. It also brings in a fan favorite couple synonymous with Kirby’s “Fourth World.”

Scott Free aka Mr. Miracle and Big Barda have always had a unique relationship with the New Gods. Ram V sets up a desperate proposition between Free and Orion. Readers watch in shock to the real mission. It’s met with a counter proposal that leads to more uncertainty. Pacing allows this to build nicely. The final act showcases what is causing all the concern. It lives up to the billing. Once the final page hits, there is no easy way out for what has begun.

Cagle handles the art duties after Fornes kicks things off. An incredible two page splash welcomes readers to Metron’s world. Once in New Genesis, Cagle and Segala get started with slowly revealing Highfather’s plan. The cold demeanor. Things begin to heat up once Orion smashes his way into the story.

The action panels are frantic reflecting the fight. Napolitano does it again with the lettering here. A simple “Orion” is magnified to indicate Highfather’s yell. Readers can see how the fight has been ended. This leads to the more calm conversation with Free. There is a wide range of emotions going on due to the subject. Once on pace for the final act, the reveal of the conflict is given a final full page debut. It leaves readers with questions as a new mystery has just begun.

The latest chapter in the “Fourth World” saga begins on a strong debut. Ram V’s writing mixes morality question into the world of divine beings. In the age of the “All In” movement, creative takes are running wild. Gifting Lois the powers of Superman proves to unlock a part of her rarely seen. Williamson sets the stage innocently enough. Some “super friend” bonding with Supergirl and Lana Lang unlocks a deep rooted secret inside Lois. The result takes readers into unexpected directions.

At her core, Lois strives to do the right thing. Williamson walks the audience through the shocking change while allowing a new path. Lois deals with her initial change with wonder. This shifts quickly into growing confidence. Coming out of “Absolute Power”, there are challenges being a hero. Lois takes the ball and runs. It provides a few notable reveals. The script never stray from the theme. Lois is now a hero and that opens many new directions. The close ties up loose ends before a dramatic reveal sends forth a deadly challenge. How this new hero handles that pressure is anyone’s guess but readers will be locked in to watch.

Art duties are split three ways for this special. The credits page morphs into a two page splash. It’s an easy pick-up for readers as a new era begins. Events become more grounded with Lane back at the Planet. The art shows Lane’s cyphering of the new abilities. As the story progresses, pages bounce between current time and the past. It never looses pace and gives a needed break in plot when added.

The moments at Supercorp will be a fan favorite. Having Mercy watch as Lois smashes a table jump starts this aspect of the issue. With Superman crashing the scene, the images convey the hopeful future and uncertainty of the price of powers. This rings true when Lois joins the super family in stopping a threat. Lois’ range of emotions peak. Readers no longer see the reporter. They witness a hero emerging. It is validated with the parting shot. An epic two page depiction perfectly concludes this portion of the series. Once at the last page, a new player appears ready to greet our new hero. After seeing how this came to be, the future is wide open for the new version of Lois Lane to thrive in.

The evolution of Lois Lane comes into focus with an excellent one shot. Williamson’s writing brings out the hero within. Mixing in classic theme panels with an insight into Lois’s new world is pulled off with ease by the Art team. The DCU had best be ready for what’s next from the Woman of Steel!
