The mystery of Kai takes on a few new looks with this latest installment. Zon’s agenda comes across enticing at first glance. The subject of Kronium is presented with a new viewpoint. In their script, the writers bring forth a challenge to the ultimate soldier. Tying in the family past makes a quick connection with the reader. It lends itself to cover up the real reasons behind the meeting of minds.

Kai is not one to trust. He has just been burned by Xander and Zynitec. Readers watch as a tense alliance is formed. It is not one of want, but need. Kai is in a new body he knows nothing about. Zon holds the cards into unlocking its’ true potential. Readers watch how this starts to unfold in the closing act. Xander continues to pull strings on his own agenda. Seeing who’s recruited now proves why Kai plays it smart to continue with Zon. It leads to a solid landing point which opens up another door on a growing saga.

Smallman and Beaudoin present Kai’s new body in a half panel. The emotion and rage speak loudly on this page. Zon’s assistant Alvarez makes a big entrance with a near full page shot. It is an easy tell to the readers how this trio is not all in on events. The flashback sequence pops off the pages. It tries connecting Zon to the audience by justifying his motives.

It is contrast to Xander’s manipulations. After his deceptive talk with Lyra, events move to a new area. Readers watch as his newest partner crashes the scene in a bold way. The art holds nothing back as she wipes out her own crew! They keep up the intensity with Kai in the closing act. The fight with the creature caps off a violent showdown. It indicates how far Kai has now come and where he is heading, ready or not.

Kai’s new life doesn’t come without consequences. The writing walks him into an unlikely direction. Smallman and Beaudoin elevate the stakes for both Kai and Xander with spectacular art. Even in its’ early stages, “Arcbound” wastes no time in bringing intense action and an even paced story. Readers will have much to enjoy with this new series.
