*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Tynion takes readers into a heavily emotional issue. The flashback opening is filled with a somber feel as young Jessica. Her reactions to other hunters sets up a crushing blow to innocence. Once sped to the current time, readers see how Jessica’s battle with Alcohol impacts the case. It leads to one of the most intense conversations we have seen Erica Slaughter involved with.

It is a tragic coming of age interaction. Eric trying to reason with Jessica falls on deaf ears. The dialogue is sharp and unapologetic. Readers watch as Erica is visibly shaken from this conversation. The cold response reflects the line of work they are involved with. Its’ fallout pushes Erica to take matters into her own hands. Judging by the final page, there is no happy ending on the horizon.

Dell’edera and Muerto open with a lighter color pallet in the flashback. The bright shades clash enough with the red streaks to make panels pop. There isn’t much held back here. It ushers in the painful world the Order is involved with. Once time jumps back into the story, the emotions only get heavier from here.

The face-off between Jessica and Erica delivers heartache and cold truths. Panels fill with anger and frustration as both refuse to give ground up. The art locks in on Erica’s fractured picture of Jessica. It is in contrast to Jessica’s vicious response of banter. Seeing Erica tear up cements the impact of this exchange. It leads into Erica forced to handle business her way. The rebound from what transpired moves events to the close. A bold final page leaves no doubt the end is coming. Better prepare now.

FINAL GRADE: 9.5
