Story Overview:
Billy is a prisoner in a Skynet facility working as a slave looking through scraps to salvage materials the machines need. He writes a diary to his wife, who he hopes is still alive and safe inside one of the last fortified strongholds of the human race, Eagle One. One day at work another inmate Javier introduces Billy to a new prisoner, Ava, who is with the resistance and was stationed out of Eagle One. The two of them come up with an escape plan and get the other prisoners involved in said escape. But after they escape will they truly be free of their captures or will they just walk into another trap?
Writing:
This issue takes the reader on one hell of a ride, with a great twist ending. Declan Shalvey & Rory McConville do an amazing job of showing the desperation of the prisoners and what they are going through. Personal relationships and what drives their motivations is what brings the greatest deal of intrigue to the issue. Especially Billy and the love and missing of his wife and how desperate he is to find her. That desperation is really showcased in the twist ending, as we find out to what lengths he will actually go to save his wife.
Artwork
This issue's artwork is outstanding, truly reflecting the spirit of the Terminator franchise. Eoin Marron does an awesome job of bringing the despair of the story onto the page. The backgrounds and the world of the Terminators really give the story a lot of character, well showing how bad the humans have it. The action sequences are graphic and bring the emotion of a big budget blockbuster. The color choices by Colin Craker match the tone and look of the art perfectly, really immersing the reader into the world.
Final Thoughts:
The Terminator: Metal #2 is an excellent story with superb art that will capture any reader’s imagination. The bleak world that gets filled with the hopes of our survivors, only to have the rug ripped from underneath them in the final pages will attract any comic fan out there. This is a book that should be on your list for when you hit the LCS this week.
