One would think that capturing Amanda Waller would unify some personalities. Someone never told Dreamer, Gossamer, Superman Jon Kent, Deadshot, Black Alice, & Catman. These six individuals are struggling not to kill each other, let alone find Waller.
After a lead takes them into the Club Checkmate, the six run into a “frienemy”. Former Secret Six member Banshee is now involved in Checkmate. She’s not happy to see her old running mates. Nothing bad should happen here, right?
SECRET SIX #4 by Nicole Maines, Cian Tormey, Stephen Segovia, Rain Beredo, and Steve Wands (DC COMICS) continues the search for an escaped Amanda Waller.
Let’s take a closer look at what’s happening now.

Maines wastes little time in bringing the action. Banshee has the volatile reunion with her former teammates. It does cause a few fractures in the group. Readers watch as some members are captures. Two in particular are not. this leads into the broken) heart of the chapter.
The long awaited back story between Catman and Deadshot comes to light. It gives a greater insight to the loyalty and love Catman has. Watching Deadshot play it off enhances Maines’ writing. It is clearly evident how well they work together as a team. This also plays into how devasting the turn Deadshot does in favor of Waller. There is no doubt of the hold Waller has on certain people Deadshot is no exception. The result is shocking but fitting. It also leads into a closing with more reveals. Just when you don’t think the situation can become more explosive, the final panel says it all.
Tormey joins Segovia and art duties for this chapter. The fight at the club proves chaotic as the Six are handled. When two escape the ruckus, they’re given a full page shot of their crash landing. It is easy to pick up on Catman’s growing rage. The close-ups of his face brew with anger as he recaps past events.
Segovia heads up the Madagascar portion. Catman’s raid of the compound is violent as needed. A half page image draws this out immediately. It’s complimented by Lawton’s smirking. The page set-up for Lawton’s betrayal is well done. It breaks up moments for building the shocking turn. Readers have little time to soak this all in. The final page has yet another big reveal to drop. A full page image reveals one more dangerous secret that can rip the group even further apart. How is this team ever going to find success at this rate?
OVERALL GRADE: 8.1
The truth behind a broken bond comes into the light with this chapter. Maines’ writing unveils Deadshot’s ultimate loyalty. The art brings a fair balance of action and drama to his issue. How the team responds to the last page reveal is literally anyone’s guess.
