*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Phillips takes Harrow into dangerous waters with her current dilemma. Opening with a chess match versus The End is an undeniable scene. Their banter eludes to an ultimate showdown coming. The aura surrounding Time keeps readers very intrigued. Knowing a possible future, both demonstrate a sense of denial. It provides a set-up for the main drama course.

Adira’s prescence is polarizing to say the least. The catalyst of Jessica’s drama now appears hat in hand. This shift in persona causes much pause amongst Jessica and her allies. It leads into a face-off issues in the making. The payoff doesn’t miss its’ mark. Phillips crafts an unlikely point of possible hope. Before readers can get settled in for it, a massive curve is thrown into the final page. Long time readers better brace for impact. It is a pivotal and game-changing moment. Another reason why Grim gets all the praise it does.

Flaviano and Renzi construct some of the most ingenious images of the series to date. The chess match reveal between Harrow and The End is gifted a full page visual. This moves events into the deep rooted conversations between Time and Jessica. Both are reluctant to accept their future. Their facial expressions show how both are slowly breaking in their denial.

Once Adira enters the picture, panels lean into her deep regret of failure. The art shows the remorse in her actions. Readers watch as this quickly gives way into the previously mentioned showdown. Pacing is heightened as the action heats up. A half panel exposes the damage done. In its’ aftermath, there is a sense of uncertainty in what lies ahead. The art team doesn’t take long to remedy this. The closing page is a jaw-dropping full image. It impacts everything as someone’s destiny is altered forever.

OVERALL GRADE: 9.6

“Grim” returns with a truly game-changing issue. Phillips’ writing challenges Jessica’s destiny while forever altering someone else’s fate. Flaviano, Renzi and Napolitano cover the wide ranges of emotions while mic-dropping the final page. There is nothing that comes close to the levels of storytelling displayed in each issue of this phenomenal series.
