STORY OVERVIEW:
The stress of leading the Thundercats has left Cheetara questioning herself. However, just as she questions herself, like an answered prayer, Lion-O finally returns to the team. Upon his joyous return he explains where he has been and what he has gone through, not just physically but also mentally. He then sets his sights on Apex, who is in a holding cell.
Armed with the now repaired Sword of Omens, Lion-O battles Apex in a battle. During this fight Apex reveals powers we didn’t know he has, which really sheds more light onto what this future version of Lion-O has gone through. However, that isn’t even the biggest surprise we get in this issue.
WRITING:
ThunderCats #21 is a wild ride with some great surprises and returns. Declan Shalvey really crushes the return of Lion-O and shows not only the growth in the character, but also the Thundercats need for his return. The reveal of the questioning of the team that Lion-O had while he was gone makes him a more relatable character.
Then there is the fight with Apex and the reveal of the powers that lie within him. This sets up what is to come as this story continues. But the biggest surprise and return is on the final pages, and it makes the reader really sit up in their chair.
ARTWORK:
The art in this issue completely captures the story and every aspect of it. Drew Moss does an incredible job with every aspect of the art and really brings the story to life.
The battle scene and the emotional scenes really stand out and show the reader why they are feeling the emotions they are feeling. Arancia Studio does a fantastic job of matching the colors with the art and really making every panel appealing.
Final Grade: 9.8/10
ThunderCats #21 is a fantastic journey that really pays off the return of Lion-O. Every part of the story in this issue invokes different emotions and nails each one of them. The emotions run high, the action is great, and most importantly the surprises make the reader want more.
This is a perfect jump on issue that should be on everyone’s list to pick up at the LCS this week. Furthermore, if I’ve said it once, I’ve said it well over a dozen times, Thundercats should be on your Pull List!
