Right from the opening panel, this story carries a heavyweight bout feel. The dialogue between Two-Face and Clayface teases the possible victory. It steps aside to allow Wayne and Grayson to focus their plans. Readers see great homages to the ‘66 era within their next moves. Waid flawlessly weaves in the family dynamic within the crime drama. It provides a touch more emotion heading into the closing showdown.
Once readers arrive at this stage, the action finally kicks in. It is vintage Batman storytelling. Pairing off Grayson vs. Dent makes for a strong test for Robin. Readers watch as the writing spotlights Grayson’s young skills. The result is a fitting finish to the fight. It allows to the calm epilogue to take shape.
At its’ core, this story has been about the family bond between partners. The writing unveils the more human side of Wayne. Events leave the pair with a bright future ahead. Little do they know in this moment what a legacy they will leave.
