In dealing with the K.O. event, Waid takes readers into the global evacuation. Batgirl and Atom deal with what should be a simple robbery stoppage. Events turn more grave as they are both nearly killed. This pushes Mr. Terrific to take lead on the fast-rising threat. Readers watch as one character seems to be behind the power augmentation of certain villains. His response is a longshot with a broader upside.
Readers watch as the loose threads of “We Are Yesterday” come back into focus. The writing forms a very unlikely team. Nine displaced heroes round out Terrific’s team. Before their mission, each get some page time to highlight key moments. None hit harder than Guy Gardner: Warrior. There’s a strong emotional pull that carries other heroes reflection. Once this is dealt with, its’ straightforward to close. The chapter ends on a solid cliffhanger as this teams’ trek became a whole lot darker.
Mora and Bonvillain tap into the dramatic tones for the beginning pages. Atom and Batgirl’s heroics debut in style. They end with a shocking two page splash. The aftermath raises some eyebrows as the shock sets in. Assessing the situation, Terrific’s poise sets the pace for his risky gambit.
A nine grid page welcomes in his team of displaced heroes. Readers watch as the heroes try adjusting to the moments they are in. Guy Gardner’s stans out on many levels. The interaction with Ice pours with deep rooted feelings. Guy’s tearing when it ultimately crashes is a direct bullseye to the readers. It’s a small detail but speaks volumes. Aquaman’s panels hit hard as well. This spins to a full image of Air Wave bringing in the close. The final page leaves a terrifying vision in its wake as this tale descends into darkness.
OVERALL GRADE: 8.8
Mr. Terrific assembles a time-lost team to handle a future problem in this debut arc. Waid conducts a trip into a hellish landscape with the writing. Mora and Bonvillain delver on impressive art with each panel. Buckle in for what is guaranteed to be a wild ride.
