*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
In this latest installment, The Immortal Legend heads to a distant moon. His search brings forth new elements as the case turns personal. Readers watch as a classic Bat rogue is presented in a haunting form. Knowing what this villain brings, the dialogue is sharp in delivery. Even as an Elseworlds story, the threat remains true to the original DCU character. It results in an even deeper tale.
Playing into Batman’s memories, the writing blazes into the traumatic past. Watching young Bruce interact with his father is very emotional in delivery. It masquerades the true search for answers. Readers watch as each past event builds toward the inevitable showdown. The hype delivers when the action kicks into gear. These portions are becoming a trademark of this series. The resolution moves into quite the revealing final act. There is much to process as truths come into focus. It leaves with a great landing spot to grow from for next chapter.
D’Urso sets the pace with the opening art for this chapter. The arrival on Elvir sends a solid message when Batman takes lead. Once at Castle Amhew, our lead villain makes a grand entrance. Readers watch as the flashbacks tie in with each question posed. The results get a huge compliment from another guest artist.
Bayliss adds in for a few superb two page splashes. There is much to rave about these pages. Readers watch as the art walks into the past tragedies to forge the conflict at hand. It results in another excellent action sequence. D’Urso and Monti welcome in the Shadow version of the villain via full page. It leads into a wild ride of non-stop combat. Once smoke clears, the full shot of Batman jumps off the page. This moves into Mora and Bonvillain’s closing. The pages here build up another slow burning plot. It’s a welcomed addition to what D’Urso and Monti have been doing this entire run.
OVERALL GRADE: 9
