IMMORTAL LEGEND BATMAN #2 by Kyle Higgins, Mat Groom, Erica D’Urso, Dan Mora, Tamra Bonvillain, Igor Monti & Becca Carey (DC COMICS) continues its’ epic vision of the Dark Knight.

Let’s take a closer look at where the story goes now.

Even in space, the elements of crime never veer off track. A simple space train robbery is normal in these parts of the galaxy. The writing stages the play as a very traditional lead. It doesn’t take long for events to take a turn for the worst. One robber stands out amongst the crowd. Readers watch as he holds court on all those in attendance with force. It shouldn’t take long to decipher who this rogue truly is.

Readers see another character of Bat-lore make their entrance here. The conversation with Pennyworth and Wayne is very classic in delivery. It is one that reveals the self-doubt Batman still carries. Once events jump back, the story leads into the real endgame. Action sequences pick up as all secrets come to light.

Once the villain identity is revealed, the main event begins. Readers watch as the combat is very straight-forward. It leads to a thunderous conclusion. The epilogue teases more of the mystery surrounding the lead. It’s a great compliment to a superb read.

D’Urso and Monti craft some amazong images for this chapter. The space robbery set-up is filled with tension. It never ecapes the reader’s mind of what is happening. A full page shot welcomes the thieves into the scene. This is matched with anothe rfull shot of their leader. The scene pops off as the dialogue moves into their immediate issue. There’s plenty of brutality unloading here. Carey’s lettering makes this panels jump off the pages.

Once the story swings to Batman, the mood heads towards a more reflective phase. The art shows the wear in his face as he contemplates moves. This doesn’t last long as his mission comes back into lead. The action scenes comes fast and energetic. It’s becoming a trademark of this series. The main villain reveal gets a tremendous full page shot. Readers sit ringside as the fight goes full throttle. The art exemplifies the wild action. It caps off with a triumphant full page shot.

Mora and Bonvillain’s epilogue follows this same winning formula. It supports the level D’Urso and Monti established. Readers have much to rave about on each page.

OVERALL GRADE: 9.3

Immortal Legend Batman takes action undercover in its’ latest issue. Higgins and Groom throw ILB into uncharted territory with their writing. The art is phenomenal on every page you turn. There is no sophomore slump here. This Batman story is one that should have your undivided attention.
