If you want violence, you got it. The previous three issue builds towards the explosive encounter in spades. Thornwall’s long play proves to work as she seems to have Spawn where she wants him. The writing sets an unforgiving pace. There is no brakes for where this all leads. The combat holds nothing back. It mirrors what sacrifices Thornwall has made to get her. The end result is one that throws off the predictable trail.

Readers watch as Spawn takes every blow head on. There is a sense of respect being won as Thornwall attacks. Seeing Spawn acknowledge her skills is a major co-sign. It doesn’t appear to hit that way with Thornwall. The writing plays another hand in this deadly game. It unveils many secrets as their fight progresses. This moves into a unique closing section. Readers watch as a major move stops everything to a screeching halt. It serves as a good pivot to the ending pages. The panels left no doubt the internal conflict of Tasha Thornwall is far from over.

Rosado and Alonso empty the arsenal for this brutal confrontation. The opening pages set up a stunning full page panel. This leads into a ferocious attack by Thornwall. A half page image teases the rage unloading behind her eyes. It showcases a deadly picture. There is never a pause of action in these panels. Every devastating strike is met, blow for blow. The art conveys the heavy weight involving the stand off.

Even as the magical aspect takes hold, the action never falters. There are many shock and awe images popping up in these moments. One point that can’t be lost is how focused Thornwall is in these panels. The art never breaks her expressions even if plans fail. This leads into a thunderous two page splash. Readers see how a desperate play conjours two full page images. This proves impactful as the result finally slows events down. It leans into where the final chapter is slated to go. The art really shined in this portrayal of supernatural chaos.

OVERALL GRADE: 9

The long awaited fight between Spawn and Thornwall doesn’t disappoint. Illidge & Sealey conduct the soul crushing duel with an excellent script. Rosado and Alonso gift fans a hellish showdown for the ages. This chapter defines the Spawn Universe’s latest force with a definition of sheer will. Make a point to check this confrontation out!
