Taylor pits Batman with an equal when it comes to searching for truth. Lois Lane’s addition into the story provides a fresh insight into detective work. Their banter is very strong as they go to work. Methods are different & readers reap the rewards of the clashing.
It provides some memorable pieces while solving a puzzle. The Lion’s game has had many layers to it. This isn’t an average villain. Playing chess against Batman is risky. Involving a classic rogue is another gamble. Taylor is taking Batman into uncomfortable territory with this challenge. It is not just a physical race against the clock. The challenge is recognizing who controls the game. This strikes a huge nerve if it doesn’t belong to the Bat. What a win for readers.
Janin presents Superman in all his heroic glory to kick events off. The interactions with a weakened Batman echo their long standing friendship. Scenes are stolen once Lois Lane enters the game. Her confidence shines under Janin’s art. Even when Batman tries taking over events, Lane’s demeanor refuses to yield panels.
Readers get a splash of action pages as their searching progresses. Watching Batman take down Intergang is vintage Bats. Panels pick up the pace leading to a thrilling full page roof jump. Even as events calm down, the mood is still carrying a tense tone. This is exemplified when The Lion captures his latest target. The close is very simple but drives home the sense of paranoia creeping in. Batman is playing catch-up and this doesn’t sit well.

With an assist from Lois Lane, Batman’s hunt for the Loin dives further into dark times. Taylor pens an exciting clash of methods amongst the drama. Janin presents the unlikely pairing working together with much surprise in execution. Detective Comics continues to stand out as a title readers don’t want to miss.
