X-MEN OF APOCALYPSE #1 by Jeph Loeb, Simone Di Meo, Richard Starkings, Tyler Smith (Marvel)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Loeb takes readers back to a great deal of nostalgia with this chapter. The AoA team runs directly into Nate Grey. It is far form a happy reunion as Grey is attacked quickly. Once cooler heads prevail, there is a reunion long overdue. Forge and Grey reuniting is a genuine moment. It lets some wounds heal while exposing the mission. Anyone thinking the action would stop here is happily mistaken.

Readers get a dose of 90’s X-Men here. This next statement needs to go viral: GET DI MEO ON A WOLVERINE SERIES! His full page intro light the match on that timebomb. The brawl between bone clawed Wolverine and Sabretooth is a massive win. More of this era’s X-team makes appearances. This rills into a beautiful two page splash with the teams. Readers watch as the action ramps up. Its’ conclusion is very brief. Pacing in here really cuts this portion short. Once arriving at the end, a final panel welcomes more fan-favorites into an already expanded tale.

The chapter is very straight forward. This isn’t a bad thing by any means. In comparisons to other reviews, this one is brief due to said reason.

FINAL GRADE: 8.7

The Age of Apocalypse gets Uncanny in this launching point. Loeb takes readers back into this classic era via the writing. Di Meo does a magnificent job with art duties. This is an exciting tale that reminds you how timeless the Children of The Atom really are.
