One element is very clear in this story. The creators are taking full advantage of the creative chances. Captain Atom is a very complex character. Many not realize how truly powerful he is. The introduction pages welcome him to new readers. It doesn’t take long for the tempers to start flaring. Their dialogue broods with sheer intensity. From here, the story lets loose on the stakes at hand!
Readers watch as these combatants let loose. Atom’s more driven persona shines in these stages. Superman’s attempt to keep events grounded falls flat. Atom plays for keeps with his tactics. This leads into a wildcard role for their 2nd round. Choosing past personas will easily be a fan-favorite of this tourney. The results tap into classic timelines. It provides a fun build into the closing act. Once here, the writing shows what it takes to win. It presents different sides of both heroes. This ultimately crowns one winner with a chilling look at what’s next.
Izaakse throws a Nine grid opening page to walk readers through Atom’s history. This spills into a strong two page splash. It serves as the calm before an unpredictable storm. Another splash ushers in the first round of combat. Atom’s determination can’t be overlooked in these panels. There are a plethora of incredible action images to roll through the first round.
Once events turn into the second, the art dabbles in an obscure part of both’s history. Readers watch as the third round starts with another set of great two page presentations. It gives this conflict a tremendous sense of importance. There’s plenty of back and forth until the turning point. A full page image shows a new factor in play. This moves into the fight’s end and closing. The closing caps off the winner’s guilt of where they went and need to go. It’s a steady parting shot for this round. Get ready for more “All Fight Month” long!
