Welcome to an all new edition of Parlay points!
For this entry, Valiant’s Super Spy has been taken off the board. Ninjak was left for seemingly dead. His former lover Roku wasn’t leaving anything for chance. Her quest for vengeance wasn’t being held back by anyone. How does her mission play out now?
NINJAK vs ROKU #3 by AJ Ampadu, Emiliano Correa, Ezequiel Inverni and Marina Leon spotlights the deadly assassin as she searches for the Undead Monk.
Let’s jump into the latest chapter & see how she fares.
*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
Ampadu devotes the majority of the issue to Roku’s path of rage. Readers get a big insight on what composes her drive. There’s a great flashback sequence that starts to peel back some of her mental layers. Once events speed to the present time, that’s where business really picks up.
Roku’s biggest challenge isn’t the opponent she is facing. It’s her quest to push through the pain. Mixed in with some great action, readers can sense what she’s willing to go through to accomplish her mission. This is even after suffering a big loss of her main weapon. Roku’s sheer grit is on full display. This spirals into the closing pages. It leaves the story on a very expected note, but one that builds for a great conclusion.
Correa delivers many big action visuals throughout this chapter. The flashback test connects with readers as Roku’s drive begins its’ showcase. Once in present time, an opening full panel image sets the starting point for the conflict of the book.
Readers will thoroughly enjoy the fast-moving fighting. The Master of Blades wastes no time with his page introduction. Its’ slow build with panels indicates the threat he will be for Roku. Their back and forth fight is capped off with a strong full page image of Roku in a dire state. However, this shifts gears sending the book into its’ final act. The art caps off events with some simple panels that set the stage for the final battle lying in wait.
FINAL POINT: 8
With Ninjak off the board, Roku steps into the spotlight in an action charged issue. Ampadu’s script and Correa’s art level up the energic action with a foundation of drama behind it. All bets are off heading into the closing chapter of this Valiant spy thriller story.
