*** POTENTIAL SPOILER WARNING ***

The story picks up with Aaron Slaughter tracking down his old roommate Jace. The story then flashes back to Jace’s first few days at the House of Slaughter. Readers see the early moments of a budding relationship between the two along with seeing how Jace’s initiation ritual went down. It’s great insight to the inner workings of the secret organization. It’s a very intense scene & is played out very well. The final moments of the book are a show stopper for sure.

Tynion hits another shot out of the park with this one. Aaron’s story is felt on each page. Readers can empathize with the range of emotions he’s going thru seeing Jace. This isn’t an ordinary job to do & the struggle to complete it is very evident. The backstory of how Jace joined the house was very well done. It wasn’t cut and dry. There were layers to it & readers got a small glimpse of it. Plus the ending scene capped off a solid issue with style.

The art played its part well to the story. The emotion of scenes translated from panel to panel with ease. You could connect with Aaron’s struggles throughout the issue. Even Jace’s struggles and his challenges with initiation were presented strong through each visual.
