Welcome back for an all new edition of Parlay Points, the complementary blog to the ODPH podcast. On this edition, we’re continuing to check out the Eltarian War going on within the Power Rangers universe in the pages of Boom Studios’s Power Rangers #13. The war officially kicked off in Mighty Morphin #13 & WOW, that was an issue to read! The next phase hits store on Nov. 17th. Let’s see how the Rangers are fairing after the first wave of the war hit!
*** POTENTIAL SPOILER WARNING ***
The Omega Rangers are saved from their fate by Arkon & are caught up on recent events on Earth. With Zordon gone, the distress call brings them back. It’s not a moment too soon as the Rangers are fighting a losing battle against Zartus & his army. This issue is non stop action with the Empyreals making a big splash, Alpha holding down the fort protecting what’s left of Zordon & Lord Zedd making his initial move. With the united Rangers front on the run, the war takes a dramatic turn on the final page.
There is a LOT going on within these pages! Parrott paces the action very well throughout these pages. Once the Omega Rangers get involved , the foot is never taken off the gas petal. The stakes feel so high that when you’re reading this issue, you feel how real this situation is for the fate of the world. Parrott does a masterful job weaving in moments to give everyone some time to shine here. Once readers get to the last page, the pressure is turned up & this “war” truly feels like an event.
The art complements the story very well here. Mortarino balances out a lot of characters here & it never feels like anyone’s forced to be on page. From Zedd’s quiet moments to Alpha fending of Zartus’s army, the creative team gives all players a chance to get some story-time here. Amazing job.
Overall, Power Rangers #13 is a must read! The Eltarian War is shaping up to be an epic story you don’t want to miss. It’s still in its’ early stages so head to your LCS & catch up on the latest from this saga.
